This is exactly what I needed in the middle of winter in 9B! Absolutely loved how you showed the full cycle of your plants. It’s amazing that so many survived that cold winter with snow. I also love that so many of the plants you sowed in previous years just came popping up by themselves.
I would love to see more content around when you usually start your different seeds and how you operate to keep your garden continually blooming.
Thank you for sharing your journey, I truly enjoyed every second of it!

Glad you're back. Don't go away for so long again. I recently moved to the desert and will need to learn how to garden all over again. Unless one wants a large water bill, lots of flowering plants is no longer an option. Fabulous peaches. My experience was that the trees sometimes have good years and other years are not so good. They were amazingly hearty in the bay area.

Wow! I never make it throughout a 15 min video, but yo do NOT annoy me with the rapid and luck of i information talking plus I love your sense of humor, naming all the plants (which help us to buy it)
I am in Texas and also suffered the snow storm and freeze. Of course al the outside plants freezed but my hope make me to cut them to the ground and do not remove its roots so I got all of them back. Sadly did not happen with the indoors plants since it was -30°F while outside -15°.

Great to see your year overview. The devils strip is so pretty. I wondered how it looked in summer, as I felt like that wasn't featured much. I like a lot of the same flowers, but we are in 5b, so i winter sow a lot in milk jugs. David Austin roses are my favorites! I added 6 this year, and plan to add more each year. I have tried to grow sunflowers, but the squirrels get them!

Just watched this again with my teenage daughter; it has to be one of my favourite videos of 2021. We were mesmerised by the emerald bee and looked them up. Wow! I am tempted to start work on a series of bee paintings now. But more importantly it has encouraged my daughter to get involved in the garden. Thanks for the inspiration!

The return of Sweater!! Always bringing the good mood music with your videos and I appreciate your filming styles-low angles, time lapse, rack focus, etc. The devil strip looks just like an alpine meadow, so beautiful. Just finished watching Being the Ricardos, so I laughed a bit too much at the seed stomping. Didn't realize you had received that much snow but it makes you realize how resilient plants can be. I like that you create microhabitats for both plants, insects and the occasional feline. Your adeniums look like sentinels on watch. Very jealous of your verbena bonariensis. "Liatris if you want to be boring" 🤣 This video is a treat for the dead of winter and is getting me excited for spring. As always, thanks for the inspo.

    • @Baetanical
      @Baetanical  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it, even if the video was so delayed. The verbena have been growing very well. I actually started them in cells first then planted them out in the garden. By the end of the year they were ENORMOUS so I had to keep chopping them back.
How'd you like seeing your colocasias on the screen? They were so much fun to grow.
Now I really need to watch Bring the Ricardos... assuming a grape stomping reference? Haha!

Love your spider commentary and catmint pollinators! Very beautiful gardens! I was inspired by your previous video about the poppies and cornflowers in the devil strip! Such a gorgeous combination! I picked up some seeds myself and hope to have a spot of the same in mine this spring! I'm an hour south of you. You're not truly gardening if you haven't killed your share of plants!
I'm looking forward to trying larkspur, poppies, and foxglove this year! I managed to find a couple of foxgloves at a nursery this past spring only to find out after I lost one that they are a perennial variety. The one remaining has performed beautifully!

We put every year panel where they will produce honey and after - simple smoker and you got home honey 🍯 pretty easy and not a lot work. We are giving about 5 days per season to beekeeping - set up and collect honey 🍯 EU - 🇱🇻 Latvia

My plan this year for 2022 is a Blue and white garden, kind of like Delft colored pottery. This past fall I sowed, Himalayan Blue bread seed poppies. along with blue forget-me-not and blue crocus. As for the white there will be white narcissus, and alyssum carpet of snow flowers. Have never grown the poppies before, but it will be interesting to see what they really will look like.

James, this was the most enjoyable video diary I've watched in a long time! After a fall 2021 of planting more small shrubs and small trees, mostly Japanese maples, I will be planting more seed grown perennials and annuals in 2022. I am aiming toward a "strolling garden" style with more curves in the pathways. I will not grow food crops in this garden anymore. I have too many rabbits, squirrels, raccoons, etc. So, my food crops will be grown in large containers at the top of my driveway, which worked very well in 2021 because of the full day sun. I'm in Raleigh, NC. Thank you, James!

They sprout late fall and flower in March. If you're in a cold area, you can sow them in early spring and get flowers early summer.

@@Baetanical update: planted the seeds in Jan of this year and its sprouting.
I do have another questions: After your poppies have flowered do you cut them back? Do they grow back the next year?
