Fall Family Favorite Meal

  • The weather is finally starting to cool down, so it's time to pull out our fall family recipes! Today, I'll be sharing a family favorite...Chili Cornbread!
    Recipe:
    1 pound of lean ground turkey
    27 oz Pinto beans (cooked or canned)
    15 oz. Tomato Sauce
    1 16oz bag of shredded cheese (Mexican blend or Cheddar)
    Chopped onion (small amount.. just for seasoning)
    Chili seasoning 1 1/2 packets
    Seasoned salt
    Black pepper
    2 boxes of Cornbread mix (eggs & milk)
    Preheat oven to 400* or the temp required for your Cornbread recipe.
    Thoroughly Cook ground turkey in skillet, adding seasoned salt, pepper and onions.
    Add chili seasoning packet and 1/3 cup of water.
    Add pinto beans and tomato sauce, stir. Lower temperature and let simmer for 10 minutes.
    Prepare cornbread mix.
    In a 13x9 casserole dish, spoon out chili mixture to cover bottom of dish.
    Add a layer of cheese on top of chili.
    Spoon in another layer of chili on top of cheese. Cover chili with final layer of cheese.
    Pour cornbread batter on top of the chili and cheese and place in the oven for 20 minutes or whatever time your cornbread recipe requires.
