I started my KDP journey last year, 2021, with a free download of your journal interior, thank you. I have since started doing Children's books, so far, I have about eight published. I use Canva, it is free, and I really, really love the process, so relaxing. Your way, to me, is the best way to get started. Thanks!
I totally agree. I have looked into other courses on publishing children’s books and they are focused on spending a lot of money on editors/illustrators. Your course allowed me to pursue my love of writing without breaking the bank. I am now on my 4th book in my series and getting ready to start another. Thank you.
@@AlbertTheTiger Not everyone does things for the money... some people love publishing books and being a published author. It can open doors and can lead to other things. But yes, making a living from it is enjoyable too 😀
Hi Nuria, I just purchased your Children's Book Course! I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate this opportunity to learn from your experience and I am very excited to start this journey. Have a great day!
I watched this video a few days ago and then marked my calendar to come back and buy the course. I had been debating on taking your course for a couple of weeks already, and so when you made this video it was a given! Thank you for the great offer. I just made my purchase and I cannot wait to get started. Nuria, you are a true inspiration!
Wow! What an interesting way to approach children's books! In my English in school (way back when), I remember my teacher giving us pictures to write stories from, so this is a great way to do it for sure!
Thanks for the rather obvious step ahead for me! I have been doing layouts and illustrating and publishing other peoples' books, and I've written and illustrated and published my own novels! Lol Ha ha...AND I have written children's books, so...der...lol time to publish them! Lol thank you for sharing the obvious!
When you did your journals and planners, did you have someone else create the interiors or the covers for you. I don’t have the $$ to do that. I’m an illustrator, but not fast at drawing. This sounds very good to do,just don’t want to start something and no fail all the time. Started so many things. I want to generate income too. 🌼. I was gonna join SVS learn, but I asked if I’ll make $$ and told it was up to me. Really, not totally up to me bc it has to be liked by your buyers.
All my interiors and covers are created by myself, using ready made images mainly from Creative Fabrica and Canva. There are unfortunately no guarantees to this business and it really all does depend on the designs and on your work in terms of getting sales. You're very right in saying that it has to be liked by your buyers, but we only really find out if they like it by putting our books in front of them. They may buy or they may not, that is the reality of it. All I can say is that you could give low content book creation a try as it's free. And if you are an illustrator, you have a big advantage over the ones that have to work with ready made images, you could make your own. My advise is do it if it feels right to you, but not if you have doubts. I also did so many things before I started KDP and never really finished any of them properly. Kdp felt right to me and I enjoy it. I hope you find the right thing for you.
Can you submit your book for an award or is it something that just happens if they choose your book? I took your course and published my first book! Thank you so much!
I hope you're enjoying the course! Yes, you have to enter the competitions to win any awards and there are no guarantees. I use Bookaward Pro which picks the most suitable competitions and selects the one you have the best chance of winning. It's a subscription service but they now have a free version too. It's all explained in module 9 of the course. Best of luck!
Hello Hello, I am in the process of creating my first book. I was wondering... In Canva, can I use the free pictures for a book (I will alter of course) and use them? Or, do I have to have the paid version of Canva to be able to use the images in my book? Thank you so much.
Hi, on the one hand I really like the idea of creating a book like this, because it is so easy and cheap, it is a really good idea! But on the other hand I kind of feel bad that I use images from an illustrator for free (or even if you pay for a bundle of pictures, it is not that much money). I don't have the money to pay an illustrator, but they actually deserve the money if they illustrate books, they also need to make a living. this kind of feels like I tricked someone to illustrate my book, without even asking. Anybody feels the same?
If you can afford an illustrator then that is absolutely the best way for your book. However, not everyone can afford this and this is an alternative and enjoyable way to create a children's book. I'm not sure why you feel that we 'trick' someone to illustrate our book. The designers on Creative Fabrica want us to buy their images, that is why they are selling them, so we're not tricking them, we're buying what they are selling. Why would they put their designs up for sale and then feel tricked? I don't understand what you mean.
@@TheHomeBoss Sorry, I didn't mean it as an offense. It is hard to put it in words what I feel. That's why I'm asking if anybody feels the same, or if it is just me having those weird thiughts/feelings ;) it is just that I think if I like the style of the artist, I probably should ask if they want to illustrate my book. But well I can't afford it, so I buy their pictures and use them to illustrate my book. Yes they sold them , but probably thought someone uses them for smaller designs, not to make them the heroes of their books. Now if the book gets popular and wins awards the author gets all the credit (ususally the awards consider the illustrations as well, not only the text) and I kinda feel bad about it... But may be that is just me... I probably should ask th designers what they think, may be they are happy to see theier work in a childrens book...
@@annaentdeckt No offence taken Anna, you explained it very well and I now understand. When we buy ready-made images the licence the artists provide are quite clear. They state clearly what we are allowed to do and what we are not allowed to do with their images. I think you said it very nicely, I'm sure the designers are happy we're using their work in a children's book. Also, this is nothing new, books have been created this way for a long time and I'm not the first one to teach this method. I hope this has reasured you, and I understand the point you are making.
As an illustrator, a song writer, writer etc, I do understand. Maybe one way you can move forward is to, somehow bless the Artist with an added donation, and/or 'shout out'. :)
@@TheHomeBoss As a professional illustrator and designer this rubs me the wrong way. I'm not sure what these licences state but It seems rather strange that you would create a book without at least giving a credit to the illustrator. In the process of publishing your book on amazon there is a field that you should use to credit your contributor, one of the fields is dedicated to an illustrator. I'm not even going to go into the whole illustration process and what that process entails. There is so much more than merely placing pictures on the page. I'm very concerned about future generation of kids if this is where the publishing industry is heading.

Illustrators cost a lot and take time, ok, but it's a lot of work. It's a real job, and illustrators have bills to pay, like everybody. Creating takes time and skills, so it's very unfair to illustrators to prefer stock pictures. Art and creation shouldn't be considered just as a product. It's way more than that. Your video is interesting but I'm an illustrator and I'm already scared because of IA stealing art jobs.
I understand your view totally. However I don't think that art can ever be replaced. The same thing happened when photography was invented, everyone feared that artists would lose their income. The way I look at AI is just as another medium to express art, it can never replace real oil paintings, watercolour, etc. I have illustrators in my course that provide clipart and other services, so I don't feel that it's unfair to illustrators to choose ready made images as they are also created by illustrators. I wish you lots of success and hope your worries are alleviated.

Are your children's books published in color? If so how do you get around the page minimum?
The page minimum is 24 pages and you can publish in Premium colour, which is ideal. Most children's books are under 40 pages.
