- Last year, the Philippines became Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing economy, overtaking Vietnam and Malaysia. Three big factors helped the economy top the growth chart: consumption, services and investment. Gross domestic product expanded 5.6%, surpassing the Bloomberg estimate of 5.5%.

The other Filipinos cannot feel it. But for me, I feel it. Yes, the price of the rice has been increased but over all the inflation last year is very slow as compared to previous years.
It was actually very quick this time. Regular rice went from 50 pesos to 62 pesos, eggs went from 7 pesos to 10 pesos, and other goods went up by 20-30% since June or July of 2023. That's a very high inflation rate in a matter of 6-7 months. It's understandable though that this is a worldwide phenom but the government should really work hard to not let this rise futher.

@@JFelisimo I did think about that. As I mentioned the price of all other goods went up as well, for example canned goods, vegetables, spices, meat, fish, gas... Do I need to mention more and enumerate the prices before and after? If you do groceries regularly you will know. TBH, I don't really spot the price hikes right away but what happened last year was just too sudden. Not only me but everyone in the neighborhood including my 'suki na' vendors were shocked. Anyway, as I mentioned as well it is a GLOBAL SITUATION so we can't solely blame the government although they can do a lot better.

Actually I saw this reported last Feb. 1 in UNTV news. Sec. of Finance Ralph Recto even stated Philippine GDP growth being stronger compared to China which only had 5.2 growth.

Some pinoys are believing in Vietnam's GDP has overtaken us in the midyear of 2023, then suddenly things changed when we overtook Vietnam and Malaysia's place also having the strongest economic growth in the region while Indonedsia maintains its economic superpower (having a trillion dollar economy) outlook even if there are lots of hungry people there.

Philippines is now putting inflation under control. In December, inflation was at 3.9%. January inflation figures will be released a couple of weeks from now, but the highest projected rate is 3.6% with the lowest at 2.8%.

Every year they always say this in the Philippines, but still, it is never felt by the common person. Everything is becoming more expensive, salaries are low, services are subpar, inflation still high. News like this doesn't matter anymore.

It is because of inflation. Our economy grew 5.6% but inflation is at 6%. That is why people hardly felt the progress.

I hope the Philippines will further open up its economy to foreign direct investors by allowing 100% foreign equity ownership in capital-intensive industries that Filipino corporations cannot afford to capitalize 60% equity shares like natural resource extraction, agriculture, forestry, energy, education, and mass media.
I do not agree with the 100% foreign ownership. Just the NGCP alone who have 40% chinese share is already a headache. How much more if it's 100%?

Unemployment rate in the PH right now is at all time low at 3%..
16% of the population live below the poverty line, philiopine wages are low and not enough jobs for the people, that's why around 12million people leave the country to find work outside, corruption index in the philippines is high. Philippines education is so low that they are ranked as one of the lowest comprehension population in the world, that's why they keep electing the same corrupt political dynasties.
