I thought she was “ just” one of the best groove bass players I’ve ever heard....but HEAVY jazz chops? Good lord. Easily one of the most gifted musicians I’ve ever heard. Mercy...
I don't understand why y'all always use the word gifted, you think they were just born with it? What you don't see is the insane amount of hours they poured into honing their art
@@ahmedrazan4554 happy to explain it to you. So not all musicians are created equal. If anyone who put in the hours could be a Tatum or Bechet, well we'd have 100s of thousands of them running around. He's referring to the bit that goes beyond the effort - that considerable time has been committed to the craft is obvious to even a small child. But working hard isn't the part that really, deeply impresses us is it? Millions of musicians work hard. For some, there is an inexplicable part that cannot be accounted for that puts a musician at the next level, that rare echelon of the top 1%. And in that sense it is said to be 'given', aka gifted. By God or otherwise. That's not to say someone couldn't arrive via brute force (say, Coltrane who tirelessly practiced the basics as well as constantly addressing his weaknesses), but many of those that 'make it' have what can only be described as a 'gift'. Hope that makes sense.
Sister Kenga, I am inspired! Those staccatto, arpeggios following the piano (towards the beginning of the piece) are amazing. It happens so fast I can't tell if she is harmonizing with the piano part or following the melody a couple octaves lower. It's like they are one instrument played by one mind, intense. The level of musicianship being displayed is breathtaking. ❤🎉
LMFAOOO something hilarious.... About 5 seconds after I read your comment, TH-cam glitched out for a second and when my mouse hovered over the time bar, instead of showing a snippet of the video at that particular second, it showed Bill Evans with the same EXACT curve, juxtaposed right next to the pianist in the vid
I've been struggling to feel the groove of Donna Lee for a long time (confusing the start to be on 1 rather than on 3), and this is the first version that made me feel it. Amazing.
Kinga is certainly one of the most expressive bassists I've seen. It is always such a joy to witness a musician who so clearly communicates their own enjoyment to the audience. She reacts as a true listener of her own music. And the rest of the trio is killer as well, this was such an intimate viewing experience!!
The bassist in this group is truly badass 👍🏾 and so is the band. Love that she’s getting that upright Sound from such a tiny instrument. And Iv always wanted to play an upright. Thanks for putting this out there Gtyk ... love it..

Max Austin I’m sure he’s smiling down same as Charlie Parker would’ve when Jaco covered it. Besides, it’s clear to tell this was a cover of Jaco’s arrangement of Donna Lee moreso than Parker’s.
at first it was very strange, such a small instrument, then i realized i live in brazil and we use bandolim and cavaquinho lol. Amazing playing, great sounding, cheers from Brazill
that total silence during the drum solo was the greatest !!!! everybody knows that idea (that chick corea talked about) but not so many people really do it in the music ... great work ... cziestz z republiky czieske
Perfect rhythm, love how each instrument keeps up with other. Fast piano, fast bass, fast drums. You can see the pain of trying to play. Try and get a 100 on this on rockband lol

Wow... I'm glad I found out about this, finally.. some of the best stuff I've heard in a very long time. Thanks guys 👍 Next time you're in town I'll go watch you 💋💋
You guys sound excellent. Both the execution and sound capture are very good. I had a good time listening and watching... I was wondering about these uke basses. I'm sold!
Kinga is both beautiful and very talented, possibly one of the top jazz bassists in the world today. And that guy behind the drum kit is her Dad apparently also a stellar jazz percussionist as well.
I was about to like the video, but I already did like 3 years ago... I was about to subscribe, but I already did 3 years ago... It is December 2021 I still love this. Thank You.
These are admirable students of the music. But please don't forget the true creators of bebop. Let's remember not merely their names, but their lives, their struggles and their sacrifices.
This video along with the "Tears in Heaven" Chord Melody that u did, are nuking my brain. Hoping to get any of ur cds (if u have any) here in Argentina, cheers!!

When that pianist has that thoracic curvature, you know he can play.

Needs to learn how to lay back
other father from coraline curvature
I love the respect that all players give each other the room to play, nice
I have to say, I had no idea that A U bass could sound that good! I am assuming her skills are a large part of it!
for sure. I have a similar instrument and it's hard sometimes to get a sound out of it that doesn't just sound like a slapping rubber band.

That's bebop for ya
There are only 12 notes in modern music lol
Yup bebop’ll do that to ya
Lol!!

Poskładać coś do tak porywającej całości nie lada sztuka. Gratulacje.
Bravissimo! I loved the freshness and ability to interpret this theme. Congratulations!!!

Unbelievably cool! Jaco's smiling on the other side.
But, Jaco didn't write the tune, though.

Wow, that was one of the better, tighter, more soulful Donna Lees I've heard, amazing work, y'all! And on a UBass, no less.
It used to say: like a father like a son but here like a father like a daughter! Great!
congratulations, on being the first human to ever play some actual music on a bass uke
Large Harbinger you clearly haven’t seen Davie504
Can't wait when someone will metion him on every fucking bass video on TH-cam.
Fuckwit perfect name for yourself
Nihilist Church he’s just a pewdiepie rip that plays bass
Don’t you slappers know that Davie504 owns the bass on TH-cam? At least, I conceded to that fact after he played a 24 string bass lol

I recall an ear training class in which we had to sing Donna Lee with the solfège syllables (do re mi etc.) Good times lol!
I had something similar at Berklee in classes with Dave Bazinet
Yeah , great musicians !!!
So proud of You, Kiniu. Hope You.have got some concert arrangements in Melbourne, Aussie Land. ❤.
This was awesome! Never seen a bass that that before! Sounds great!
3:25 "You know what is coming".

great arrangement and awesome playing!
I think Kinga's choice to use a Ubass for this song was just perfect. Now I'm looking to find if there's any ubass that sounds like hers.
there isn't.. it's the man/woman who makes the music, not the instrument!
@@sebastiansprotte2551 well,, sure but the model of u base is going to be near the tonal quality
I think those rubber strings didnt sound that good. But good luck playing donna lee on an upright bass

I'm pretty sure Kala makes that U-Bass. They either invented or popularized it.

Rizkita Milenia because it is ukulele. Kala U Bass probably.
