      Considering that the RB20 is a new/changed concept, I fully expect RBR zo have a few upgrades in the pipeline. But I think it's just to early to call this a "title fight", it's only been 2 races where McLaren and Ferrari have been this close.

      Yes, but i dont think weve seen the best out of the SF24 evo yet. The rear wing they used in Imola was too draggy, hence why they lost "so much" time in S1. Ferrari already have a lower drag wing, and its been reported they have more in the pipeline, plus a reasonably large package coming to silverstone.
      The fight for the constructors will come down to driver consistesy, R&D and PU reliability.

    Despite being a neutral, I always love the underdog but also the times a driver overcomes a "block". Seeing Lando finally get a well-deserved win was a joy, and I will undoubtedly be ridiculously happy if Charles finally gets on the podium, especially the top step, at his home race. Should he do it, it could well be the race that removes his bad luck there throughout the future.
    (Although some, like Hamilton, do especially well at them, home races often seem cursed! Remember Reubens never winning in Brazil, mostly because his car would conk out. I'd shed tears for him! And there are many more such cases, not just in F1.)
    When it comes down to individual races and the championship, may the best driver and team win their respective competitions. Should Max do it again, this will be as tough a season, if not tougher, than his first WC. If each race only gives one or two near race-long fights, it'll be a great season. For those of you too young to remember the pre-hybrid era, two season-long competitors has often been the norm. I learned decades ago that all you need is one good fight for it to be remembered as a terrific race! Nothing has changed.

      By the end of the year, will Max and Oscar be the best drivers on the grid? In my view, YES. Oscar will have significantly more experience with race pace and tyre management by then. For the remainder of 2024, Oscar will probably constantly beat Lando in qualifying. Watch out for 2025.

  • @Leon-52
    @Leon-52 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

    Hypothetically, the championship would be close. But would it be hard to beat Max? Extremely. We need to realise who he is. He is a talented driver who can make most of the car - as seen in Imola when they had the wrong setup each time.
    So far, Max has a great advantage in the WDC, and there's NO doubt Max will win another race.

      Also these two races were just outliers for RedBull. Miami saw everyone struggling with tyre warmup, which RedBull in particular is the worst for since they barely work their front tyres. And Imola they went the wrong way with their setup, when the car was in its window on the mediums it shot down the road. Just wait till we get back to a more traditional track, and McLaren and Ferrari will be ages away.

    I think personally...
    Monaco is going to be vastly similar in terms of performance and race pace by each as they were in Imola so it may be deceiving with this title fight aspect. What will be interesting to see is how it continues after monaco, when the tracks open up, change style and suit different teams and drivers. It may not be a crazy title fight for drivers this year, but constructors might still be in for a shot, and this will have a knock-on effect for next year.

    • @InflictedMedia
      @InflictedMedia 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      We are literally going from imola to monaco? 🤣 How more of a changing style of track can we have. And NO Mclaren will underperform cause their weakness is slow corners.

    • @HiBoa
      @HiBoa 25 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@InflictedMedia I wasn't suggesting that we weren't going from Imola to Monaco, but that Monaco will produce a similar style of race due to the fact that, like Imola, it is a short, narrow track with limited overtaking areas and only 1 DRS.
      Mclaren may underperform at Monaco, they may not, I never suggested anything about one specific team. I was more looking at the broader, long-term nature of the calendar where not all tracks will be like Monaco or Imola, and that in itself may produce an interesting aspect to follow.

      @InflictedMedia 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@HiBoa Well in this case, you're right. I misread, I thought you suggested that the race results will be similar/same as Imola. I don't exactly agree with the flow of the both circuits, as Monaco has way more slow corners than Imola. Sadly not many overtaking opportunities. May the race have some rain to spice it up a little bit. 👍🏼

      @@7BD273Pretty unfair assessment of the overall race & qualifying. We know its hard to overtake at imola, meaning qualifying made the difference. Max won qualifying by less than a tenth (something that all drivers agree is not a difference that is fair to measure) + had a tow. And then the RB being faster on the mediums being the first stint meant that he was able to get away at the start and ultimately means that the McLarens would have had to overtaken on, again, a difficult to overtake track for anyone. Yes max is probably ahead of most, but not nearly as much as his dominant car has made it seem, and I think it's quite obvious with equal cars, Charles/Lando/Hamilton are all ready and good enough to challenge or beat max in a championship at this very moment in time. Again Max is probably the best on the grid right now (although I'd argue Hamilton hasnt just forgotten how to be the best driver), but it's pretty simple minded to just discount every other driver

    I think the title fight is on, but it's among constructors not drivers. If McLaren and Ferrari can team up to keep Sergio Perez in 4th, 5th, or 6th place in the driver's standings, there's a chance that Red Bull won't take their constructors trophy this year.
    That's the battle I'm looking forward to, and any wins by McLaren or Ferrari this season will be welcome. Second place in the driver standings will be either Leclerc or Norris; and NOT Checo.

    Feel like it's being understated that Max still did win on Sunday. Was it as dominant as before? No. But over quali and race distance he still looks the fastest guy out there and even if only by a little, that's still enough to dominate. "1-0 to the Arsenal", if you will.

    Max is ahead of Leclerc by 48 points and Lando by 60.
    The greatest championship deficit ever overcome is 42, a record set by Max against Leclerc in 2022.
    F1 fans have been jumping to unfounded conclusions all season long, from Sainz to Danny Ric to "Lando got within 3/4 of a second, therefore with a couple more laps, he'd win."
    I know we're tired of Max dominating, and want a proper title fight. I know people want hope for their favorites.

    I am on board with Tommo on this one. Well, maybe not WDC, but definitely race wins (and hopefully WCC). Also hearing the rumour that Chandhok spread, that Max might take a 1 year sabatical wouldn't surprise me, because in an era of new engine regulations where Red Bull will develop an engine with Ford? of all engine suppliers and an aero without Newey, rings Max leaving Red Bull. Maybe not next year. But for 26 and later definitely in my opinion.

    I agree, it looks really promising. I would have liked if you addressed the longer-term perspective which is how Hamilton at Ferrari would change the title battle. Max in a weakened RB, or Lando/ Oscar in a decent McLaren could still end up dominating if the Ferrari pairing end up fighting within themselves in 2025. So I am not sure the dominance of the RB is lost just yet.

      nah, Perez was already offered a 1 year deal and rejected it with a counter, Sainz in that seat is a danger for Max, not in terms of driving but in terms of internal politics (Jos and Carlos Sr. dont get along), and putting Ricciardo or Yuki on that seat is always a risk. Checo has RB by the balls, they will give him a 1 + 1 imo.

    Red bull have been downgraded form RedBull 2023 level dominance to Mercedes 2018 level dominance, the car is still more or less the best in the field, and they have the most consistent lead driver with a clear number 2, albeit not as great a wingman as Valtteri was. Its certainly going to be a better season than 2023 but I don't see anyone matching Max's consistency.
    That said, I do hope RedBull fumble for 2 or 3 races and really do give us a genuine title fight, which most certainly is a possibility.

    I think it’s still too early to say that there’s a title battle coming yet.
    McLaren have been good recently, yes. But they’re still miles away from Red Bull. When/If Lando wins another race or two quickly, and/or closes to within 20 points of Max. Maybe then, it’s a battle.
    Until then, it’s too early.
    On top of that, I’m still yet to be fully convinced that Lando would be the right driver for the job of going to battle with Max.
    Which is to say, I’d have more confidence in it being a battle if Charles or George or Lewis was in Lando’s position right now. And maybe a more seasoned/experienced Oscar too.

    Being a long suffering Ferrari fan, and a McLaren devotee, when both Carlos had his two wins and Lando finally won in the era of Max, I knew in those moments what it sounded like, when doves cry. Just mere glimmers of hope, whispers of a future free of hearing the Dutch national anthem every single race weekend. I've said it since Max started his unchallenged win streak that I'm not mad at him, don't hate him, don't know him---he and his team are doing what should be done if you want to achieve greatness, but I just want to see a fight for that top step like in Italy. I want to see the challenge. Why doesn't he get driver of the day...because not so deep down, we don't feel like he's had to fight (which is untrue, still have to stay ahead of 19 others), but it's boring, its predictable and in sport, that's the last thing that makes sport interesting.

    10:52 for the most part, I agree, but I'd argue that Leclerc would have won Vegas 23 had it not been for the safety car. He was outpacing max on first stint and preserving his tires better. Just the worst timing for a safety car put him in a really awkward spot. Just goes to highlight your point of certain cars being really good on certain circuits. The Ferrari was definitely the best car that weekend

    The problem is the Red Bull upgrade effectiveness. If they couldn't find a proper setup in Imola is just a special case (they didn't test Hard Tyres), and they can find the proper setup in other tracks like Canada, Barcelona, silverstone...etc. Then I think gap between red bull and mclaren may be similar as previous GP (like China). Don't be so optimistic to say that the title fight is on.

    The tow Verstappen got from Hulkenburg is being overrated. Yes, he got a tow into sector 1, but he was only .066 quicker in that sector than his first run in Q3. In fact, even if he had the same sector 1 time as his first lap in Q3, he still would have taken pole. The majority of his gains were in sectors 2 and 3. I'm not sure where you got the 0.14 time from (interested to know, not saying you're wrong) but the micro-sector times put out by F1 are what I'm looking at, and I'm not seeing this 10th and a half difference from the tow.
