Hey Tom. I am from America and stumbled on one of your videos a couple months ago. I’ve been binging the whole channel and learning all about London cabs and The Knowledge because you make it so interesting and nice. Thanks!
Yes it would be interesting to see how well taxi driver Tom can do on the UK map. Obviously not as good as London and probably worse than Geowizard Tom.
The indoor round, the one with the cloakroom is actually the interior of the old Earls Court Exhibition Centre I believe (I think geoguessr keeps old Street view footage). Know it well thanks to my time working the Eurogamer Expo every year.
With the Kia Oval one, using the compass would've helped too. To look towards the centre of the pitch, you are looking North-East, so you can then draw a line South-West from the centre of the pitch outwards to the edge to pinpoint where you are.
Amazing video ! Such impeccable knowledge. To recognise a street and know its make just by the way it looks, is a credit to the time it took you to study and learn turn ‘knowledge’ of London.
It is "very easy". You can find a street sign within a few hundred metres, on literally every round. That's not to say that doing it quickly isn't hard.
01:26 I've nearly jumped haha I visit the UK once every 2-3 years. I've passed many times through this very corner during my last visit. Thank you for reviving good memories!
Very impressive! You can make the map even bigger. And I'm not sure if you are doing it, but by aiming the streets along the compass (especially ones you don't know), you can determine their direction on the map, which can speed up the search process a whole lot, since you can skip all the streets that are not at that angle. Maybe you are so quick at doing this already that I didn't notice.
I had all the trinity bouy wharf points ready to go point on Sunday and had a rare lazy mood and sacked it off. Monday appearance comes Mr.W calls me in and reels off one after the other from trinity bouy wharf. Lesson learned.
Hey mate, what’s the furthest Job you’ve done and how much was the fare? A friend of mine is a Black Cab driver, his was Bournemouth and back 🤣🤣 he made a lot of money that day!
@@AlonsoRules i would assume they would have agreed a price at the start for maybe half that number. guaranteed job for the day, wouldn't be a meter job surely?
@@cliveramsbotty6077 Yeah, wasn’t on the meter, however the guy asked for him to wait 3 hours at his huge mansion being served tea and cake by his staff 🤣 i believe the job was close to £2000. Not bad for a days work aye?
Guy I knew in the early nineties showed a Japanese tourist around London for a week, picked him up from his hotel each day and at the end of the week the guy asked him if he fancied a two week, expenses paid holiday in Japan. And I believe he was featured on the news as well. Not a bad pay day!👍
Hi! Not sure what browser you're using, but if it has a "hardware acceleration" setting somewhere, you might want to enable it, it makes geoguessr run much smoother.
Question. If you see multiple black cabs parked up waiting for customers, is there an etiquette on which one to take? As a customer you won't know which ones been waiting the longest right?
I'd imagine almost always the front one. If it's anything like taxi ranks in the rest of the country, they park at the back of the queue, so the one who's been there longest is usually at the front.
Yes technically the one at the front as that is the one who has been waiting longest. However, this is just an etiquette/norm. You as a customer can pick any taxi you like, I've heard of stories where the customer wouldn't take the front cabs because they weren't 'black' taxis. Also if there is a group of 6 of you, you won't be able to all fit in a TX4 but you can all fit in a Vito or TXE 😊
Recently subscribed and I've already watched all your videos (sad I know) - assume you have daily driving footage but it is just the editing which takes time...will you hire an editor if you keep growing or is that part of TH-cam something you enjoy?
Thank you very much for your time to watch! Yes I will be looking for an editor at some point as I am at the point where I have a lot of content filmed and can film a lot of content but the backlog of editing holds me up. So effectively yourself as the viewer are missing out by me not hiring an editor 😢 Also by having my time tied up in either driving the cab, or editing. It doesn’t allow for much time to spend on growing the channel, such as new video content ideas or collaborating with other London based youtubers 👍🏻 Watch this space, exciting things to come
Jordan! Mr smooth himself! 🤟🏻 good to see you sir! I haven’t learnt anything new card wise, just repeating the same moves from years gone by, just the classic Dan and Dave stuff! Everyone once a while treat myself to a new deck. Hope you are keeping well mate 👍🏻
Thanks Carl! Theres a variety of them and I have no allegiance to any of them. But the best in terms of for the driver is Taxi App. It is owned and managed by London cabbies and cab drivers pay no commission on jobs.
@@TomtheTaxiDriver mate this one is real tough - I managed to get 1:45 perfect score but had many easy points (St Pauls, Long Lane and West Hampstead Stn)
I think you could get better times if the turning around wasn't so choppy/laggy for you. Try a different browser maybe? Or get a better computer if you can afford it? Just tips c:
I dont even know most street names near my house and he just recognises a street effortlessly
THE KNOWLEDGE
Haha I'd struggle a bit more in my hometown, London is a bit easier 😊
taxi driver: "I know every street in london"
burrows road: "Hold my fare"
hahahah! 😊 love this
Favourite moment is "definitely the A12" love how you just teleport and immediately recognize an A road
It's quite iconic, and I have to drive along it to go to the taxi garage 😊
Would love to see you drive the properties on the Monopoly board, perhaps offering insight into why you think they were valued as they were!
Now that is a great idea! Noted and would love to do something along these lines.
Someone said this below, but it would be a great idea to see you and Geowizard Tom face off in a head-to-head, timed challenge.

wow, a London cabbie that knows south of the river :D at this time of day, too
Please challenge GeoWizard :) 2 Toms would be awesome

I wouldn’t stand a chance! Tom quite literally is a wizard haha!

I like how the map overview in the end says the map difficulty is 'very easy' :D
I would agree with this statement haha!

Try to get a NMPZ (no moving panning or zooming) perfect score. I feel like you'd easily have that in you.
NMPZ, 10 seconds per round. Let's go for the hardest format possible.
Nicely done. 34 second cushion between you and the lad in 2nd place, for now at least.
Yea James Y is a boss at this game! And he’s not even a cabbie! 🤯
Very very impressive Tom. At 8:57 you recognised Earlsfield so much faster than I did even though I've taken the train from there many many times.

I''d suggest you using the Chrome web browser to play GeoGuessr on your Mac, It's much smoother, try it out!
Bit unfair it stuck you in a unused building. There should be a way of flagging stupid positions
I don't even know the name of the street outside my house
very entertaining, i was getting about half of the answers you were. i'd love to do the knowledge but i'm a bit too stupid to get it all in memory
Ohh Clive my memory is absolutely shocking and this is nowhere near the level it was on The Knowledge haha!
Mate if I can do it anyone can if you are determined enough. I still can’t tell you the streets in my local area lived here 12 years.
If u use google chrome the experience is much smoother without the laggy gameplay you have now!
Ooh now that is a hack I can get behind 😊
