Love your videos Colt! Just an idea, someone with your experience and knowledge with gear would be an ideal candidate for a “how to use your gear” course. An in depth course on how to use your gear and equipment properly would definitely be something I’d pay for. Just an idea, keep up the great work :)
Awesome video Colt! Your videos throughout my music journey have truly been a blessing to have supplementing my learning. Thank you for being an awesome mentor, here's to 2024!
I’m absolutely buying a Lauren audio mic and definitely coming back to this video for your affiliate links, thank you so much man, so much love and appreciation for your videos
I like how you now enjoy the channel strip, but I have two 6176 and a ADL 700 and a Rupert Neve portico 2 and what’s cool about channel strips is put them in your patchbay. Make sure they have Mike in and line in then you can run the line in and patch it to channels and just use the EQ or compressor or both. when you use the line in, I do that with all mine, and it makes them a double duty work horse. The only reason I didn’t like the Neve one that you got. is it does not have line in.
You really should try a Fryette Power Station. Sweetwater does not sell it but to me and many others (pros) you can run your real guitar amps and mic a cabinet and be at bedroom level. It is very impressive and there is no IR simulations.
Another piece of gear you should look into that Sweetwater does not carry is the Fryette power station? The boss Wassa is cool, but Tubes rule there is nothing like the pushing of air of Guitar in your mix.
I thought I remembered seeing a pair of AML 54F50’s in some of your previous videos but haven’t heard them mentioned. Are these something you’ll be reviewing in the future? Big ups to you by the way, you keep me motivated to continue mixing and improving
Wish i could post a pic of my setup. Dis shhh has gotten crazy. Over 6000 since last september. Warm audio. Black lion audio. Furman power conditioner...nothing else. Avantone cv12 tone beast into lindell 76 straight into protools back outto my warm aurio bus comp. If you want to save money on hardware buy guitar pedals. UNIVERSAL AUDIO HAS A TELETRONIX 2a in oedal format. Killer on vocals and its the tral deal for a stral. United technologies twin67 a damn beast of a mic. Only have 2 mics with hella versatility. Avantone cv12 has 9 polar patterns. I said . 9. Thats film, podcast, and vocal production. Colt youstill the man. You still him colt. Im definitely meeting you one day and having coffee and good cigars.
Have you tried Neumann monitors? I had both the Focal Solo6 ST6 and Neumann KH120's here for a couple of weeks and kept the Neumanns. Both are great monitors but I personally preferred the Neumanns. The Focals sounded a little hyped around 4-8khz and the low mids felt slightly scooped. I also had better stereo imaging with the Neumanns and the phantom center was more defined and solid. Vocals also sound way more natural and forward on the Neumanns and I can hear reverb tails clearer.. I had another engineer pop and a couple of musicians pop in and they all preferred the KH120's.
Tried the Focals against the PDP MUM8s and the PDPs were easily a class or two ahead. Focal Trio 6s didn’t feel too much better than my event opals, just slightly better in the mids in terms of dynamics
Interesting that the warm cl1b clone didn’t make the list. I’m wanting to upgrade my vocal chain and replace the wa76. Is there a better alternative around 1k?
Solid State Logic’s B-Series Dynamics Module packs the dynamics section of the company’s legendary SL 4000 B console channel strip into a convenient 500 Series format. (from sweetwater)
@@henryhuynh2099I agree. I love plugins and do all my shit on my Macbook Pro, but outboard gear definitely seems like a way to further shape the sound alongside my DAW's tools. I don't need it, but I sure as hell want it.
@@jessezfromboston I wasn’t, the Snare Mic does a weird (imo) clipping thing even on soft SPL’s so imo is unusable on a snare as usually thats the loudest drum. All opinions though!
Nope, my signature preamp takes that slot. And there were several people that ordered my pre-to compare it to the silver bullet, and unanimously. They thought my pre-had better sounding saturation.
Interesting, I've not used either, only the Chroma 500s. Which are good because of the API / Neve modelling that you can switch between, and the analogue plugins you can insert for various colour effects. Always wanted to try the MK2 SB see how its EQ is. Interested in the CAPI stuff as well to be fair
Colt, i'm thinking very heavily about getting the 260vu as my first outboard compressor. I like it on everything Ive heard. But lately I've been hearing some people say DBX stuff can sound plasticy? Do you think the 260 has that quality at all
Black lion 17 or lindell audio 76.. cheaper and both have crazy tech and both by black lion audio. Tobias killed this one and bla took it to the backroom and did a real overhaul. Lin76 starting at 399 and cannot be beat for the price. Again it has black lion audio elements that push it into the big leagues. Price wise, you will not reprimand
Just unsubbed for removing my comment. It said it was cyberbulling when i was joking about using an old EQ. Man talk about a brittle spirit. I was a bell subscriber. Guess you don't really need those.
The problem is that you shouldn't take what a youtuber says as about gear as fact. Especially in a review video of his opinion. Research the pro's and con's and decide if your gear is the right tool for the job.

thanks for loving on the m905. we're totally honored that you're using it!

Ditto 👍🏾
You’re definitely on the top ten of music production channels in 2023 keep it up bro!
Appreciate you Colt 👍. All the best for 2024
Great video. Thank you for sharing this with us. Praying for your health
That Atlantis mic is used about 70% of the time here too. Fantastic mic!
Thank Colt. Always highly informative.
And thank you for you content and good luck on good health.

Just looking at my new CAPI 511 chassis and imagining a pair of the Pumps in my empty slots... Thanks a lot, Colt! 😍
Thank you, my brother, and I hope you will advise me from heart to heart.. Should I buy evo16, avid Mbox, or apollo twin x? Thank you. ❤🤍

Great video all the best in 2024 👍👍👍
IAA built the LH95 after SoundToys SiEQ plugin which is based of a W295 EQ. And yes, it is awesome.
Que vídeo incrível! Parabéns amigo
I find it really cool that you have your own pre-amp …..
And it’s black so must be nice 👍🏼
I love my Rupert Neve Shelford it was a gamechanger !!! Definitely a step up from the Newton but at a 2X cost

agree about the Amek top end. I also like the top end on the Pulsar 492 the one that's FREE! The Neuman mastering EQ! It's nice too on the top.
which mic did you use for this video? sounds great!
Thanks colt

Great content 👌. Would the focal trio6 fit your current room or are they to big?

I tried it out and don't get my wrong I'm no pro, but I found that it lacked sharpness to my ears! In fact I feel like it muddys up the sound...
Get the UA Ruby or the Dream if you want a tube amp sound. Just got Ruby and it's crazy.
I was waiting for this. I have no outboard gear cause NO ONE has good shipping prices to Mexico 😢
Spl pq on every mix, on mix bus and music bus

It’s never too late to start!
You don't need it just saying
Outboard gear is a luxury, not a necessity by any means
It makes a difference esp when tracking

The infamous Lauten Clipper Mic
If it sounds good, it is good. And I think it sounds great!!
Are you saying that it’s clipping the vocal? Lmao
Yeah the vocal is clipping and super boomy in this video. I literally pulled up RME TotalMix to check my monitor outputs when I started this video lol
Unfortunately, I had the camera set improperly, so yes, my voice is clipping

@micturner_9167 I'd love an LA-2A, don't use 1176 alot but I want a comp for tracking and to put on mix bus. Stereo

The problem is this guy will be using completely different gear in a year. It's hard to get a sense of what he actually likes because he buys so much
