distrokid is overall shady, mostly because they don't verify if the uploader is actually the artist. some people who have made free music who didn't know they needed to ensure it stayed free legally have been manipulated and treated poorly by distrokid when someone else uploaded their music there - not responding to emails for months and disregarding proof, etc. sounds like they should continue to do well for you as an actual artist!! but if you get the chance to switch i would take that chance :))
I just heard about this…and right after signing up with them🤦🏻♀️ They apparently just steal some artists’ money too when they finally have thousands coming in. So not cool. I’m considering LandR but also for the extra stuff. I dunno if anyone has a better rec or tips for switching smoothly!
i 2nd that i did my first song back in 2020 then um went blind... long story i couldnt get my song off the streaming services even after deleting the song it stayed up for like 2 years and i had to do multiple emails to take it down i still have my subscription since one yoo cant cancel your sub the only way yoo do is by deleting your account ,nj if you just dont pay they delete your content which is fine i dont have any lol but yeah it works for a lot of people i want to make music again and i dont wanna do it with them maybe i'll do an experimental artist name there like you cant downgrade your tier as well and they dont care if you die they will delete your music if you dont pay. im thinking cd baby the one time fee model um i like that more theres landr as well i think they hav: , hybrid model yoo can either take the subscription or pay one time im not sure. distrokid is good long ,s it works but yeah if yoo dont have any issues idk... i loved the ep btw im working to get a few of my songs done as well hopefully it works out.
I appreciate your honesty and openness. I learned some useful lessons from your experiences. I enjoyed your EP! I’d encourage anyone who hasn’t heard it yet to check it out.
I am in the middle of learning how to produce my own music and found your channel amidst my research and I have to tell you that you have inspired me a lot while I've been sooo frustrated trying to figure this all out and now I feel a lot more positive about moving forward. You've gained a new fan for sure!!! xx
thank you so much for talking about how live performances can really do so much more than just posting into the void! (also, getting on the radio is an incredible achievement - well done!) live performances are something I'm working on for this year as posting the demos i made in my bedroom to
thank you so much for this and your other video jas!! as someone who has gone down too many production and promotion rabbit holes it's really really really inspiring and motivating to see someone do stuff as simply as you did them and still come out with an amazing result. also i'm a conlanger and i really appreciate the "fools who invent languages" reference in Seconds, lol.
Your video has been a life saver! I’m a classically trained piano 🎹 player (and also play ukulele) and have so many qualifications in music and music theory… composition I can do but the tech side, well I struggle badly. I’m figuring out GarageBand and Logic for a few original songs. I’ve just invested in a MIDI cable and lead for my ukulele which is exciting as I can now plug them in and invested in a better mic 🎤 too as mine is 💩. I want to have full control over the sound. Seeing how you have done it all, is amazing to see! I love you EP and music by the way, you have such a unique sound. You have a very folk inspired sound and remind me of Dodie but equally in your own unique way. How it’s made doesn’t matter, talent sweeps over xxx
Ayyy she’s back 🙌 So idk if you’ve listened to much Doechii, but I just found out yesterday that she was a TH-camr first, just goes to show how far you can go 😱 keep it up!! Radio 6!! That’s so cool, I guess you can just keep reapplying too throughout your career I’m currently steering way clear of TikTok and doing daily TH-cam vids instead… dare ya to do that?? 😎😎
Another great video - thanks! It's so refreshing to get tips from someone who isn't pretending to be the fount of all knowledge. Your down-to-earth, practical advice is rare thing on TH-cam. Also, I think I might call my next EP 'Shat Out" ... thanks for the inspiration. 🙂
BBC 6 is my dream! I'm ineligible for Introducing b/c I'm not from the UK (I'm in Seattle), but I've done decently with the loosely-associated Fresh On the Net (where I've ended up guest-judging for them sometimes). And, unrelatedly, Lauren Laverne's interviewed me twice on-air, which is one of the coolest possible experiences ever.
Given your age and the fact you've produced an end product in music...I don't know that I'd consider it a failure irrespective of the sales figure. Keep moving things along.
Hi there! Fellow musician here. Just wanted to share that my experience was similar with not making enough visual content in advance. It's hard to realise how much content is needed in advance and to plan so far ahead. In my next album I'm definitely going to hire someone to shoot videos with me so I'm covered on that end. Thank you for sharing!
Congratulations on being played by BBC 6Music! Albeit at three in the morning. Being visible is key. Maybe make short videos---little and often? Gigging is vital. Your video about making an EP with little knowledge or money was likely popular with others who are trying to do the same (like me!). Your songs are wonderful. Are they available on CD? I'm an old git who likes physical media. Play live as often as you can and take a batch of CDs with you to sign and sell. If you play the North West, I will definitely come and see you.

This is great, thank you. Please can you make a short video about how you find gigs?
Your music is my asmr and it’s brilliant imho. Marketing and self promo is the most difficult part of being a musician. Speaking from experience here.

I use CD baby for my releases and they have been great and cheap. No yearly subscription just $10 per release and you get to choose your release date.

How about a song a day for 30 days?
