Hey Jared I'm one of the older women ...you are easy one the eyes but thats not why I watch. I watch because of your character. Your family is very special and reminds me of mine. I enjoy watching you build and accomplish your dreams. Keep up the great work and know I really love you ,what you do and who I see you are......hugs
By leaving the triangle on the dormer black, it doesn't attract attention and take away from the amazing window shutters over all look. Leave it as is......black. You don't want to the look to be to busy & dizzy. Classy is the way to go. Less is always more!
The homeplace is looking amazing. I was sort of skeptical about the black exterior at first, but with those shutters, skirting and trim; I love it!! Rain on a metal roof is comforting to me, regardless of it being just sprinkle or a complete downpour. YES to accenting the sides of the dormer with the cedar wood. Will you eventually add gutters? Front and back porches? You just keep on being you, Jared, you are 100% the real deal in this old lady's eyes!! Hugs, Patricia
Don 't listen to those who tell you venting the crawl space is good. You will have a cooler summer/warmer winter without it being vented. As long as the plumbing is done correctly, you will have no problem with leaks or moisture build up. The main thing to do with an enclosed crawl space is to put thick plastic sheeting on the ground and that will prevent moisture from collecting under your house. The house looks great so far; keep it up!
I have a metal awning I had it spray foamed with closed cell and the temperature difference was a lot better then no spray foam and it also made the rain noise softer before the foam the rain was so loud u couldn't sit out there.
You are doing a great job! The shutters are perfect! Cedar on the transom windows would give a nice contrast against the roof. Hope it cools off for you soon!
Jared think about putting a access door in the front of your house skirting. You can make the door look nice. With all the work you have to do under your home. You will be glad you did. Are you using spray foam to insulation under your home too? After everything is done you will probably put nice plants around the home to . It's looking very nice.Take care, keep hydrated in this hot weather .
The house looks AMAZING. Love the shutters and skirting. Yes, do the dormers, that would tie in everything. As for the Algorithm, the Jared Cougar Club ( yes, we want shirts) knows that they'll leave once you stop building. If not, there will just be more men to hunt. Huge love ❤ from Canada.
Add the cedar on the sides of the dormer and also trim it out in front with the cedar. It looks really sweet with the accents you've done so far. God Bless you and your family!
I would put cedar by the window. Looks good. It's your place you do your magic. It will be nice no matter what you do. The Texas place came out nice. All the builds and rehab you did.
Hi Jared, I'd leave the dormer black as you don't want to take away from the black. Your Dad sure is right as my family has done that. Can't wait to see how furbabies will love their new home! Your home is going to be so wonderful! Your yard, solar lights, deck etc will be a beautiful accent! The shutters look great! Have a happy weekend!
Jared happy there’s no leaks that can’t be fixed. I personally think cedar around the dormer would look awesome. Love what you did around your door, it ties it all in for sure. I sure hope your property in Texas is Sold!😊❤️
I am so glad everything is going good for you with your new house. So far it is looking very good. As to if you should use cedar on sides of your dormers it would look good but you do you. If it looks good to you then you do it. I can't wait to see finished product. I WILL be watching all your vids.
The nice thing about us older ladies watching your videos is that without out us you would make less money. Lol. I watch to get ideas on building these tiny houses, then I send them to my son's to inspire them. You're doing a great job. 👍
In the heat Jared your air mattress is going to start spreading out and don't move it to much because it will get holes real easy and their patch kit doesn't work but you can get patch kits at tractor supply or store like that. Love what you're doing to the place also.
Hey Jared. I haven't finished watching the video yet, but if you haven't already done the smaller shutters check and see what it would look like if you surround the door in the cedar, it might like bring it all together and make it look like it was meant to be one set. I think the cedar on the dormer would look pretty cool. Or you could frame the front dormer edge too to accent the dormer.
Rain on a tin roof does sound good. Wait till you hear hail!😟 Now that's something you'll really hear. Cedar looks great wherever you put it. Shows up good with the black 😊
It's really looking amazing, great job! I do think you should put cedar on the dormer and also maybe trim around the front of it. Would really make it pop. 😉
The house looks amazing! Glad the leaks weren’t really leaks! I love the metal roof on my tiny house here in Texas! So soothing and relaxing! Send rain Texas way!
Starting points have a first step. Just timing. It has to be almost finished when cooler weather comes around. Step by step, it's coming along. Pat on the shoulder. Good job, my son. Keep it up
Good morning Jared. I wonder if you could put two pocket doors on the bedroom bathroom wall so you could open them up for easier heating and cooling if needed. I think the cider would look so nice above and maybe even trim the windows with the cider also this would bring it all together nicely. It is really looking so nice I love your space with all the woods around so so homey. Rock on!
Jared, do the trim up top at the dormer! Live with it for awhile, then, if you are not happy with it, you can take it out! I love the idea of more trim! 🥰👍🤩
You're home is looking fantastic Jared. I'm from the tropics in Australia and we have temperatures like you have now for most of the year. We switch our ceiling fans to reverse and open doors and windows. It helps alot.on those hot days. You're dad was right about that 😊 I look forward to seeing your home come together overtime.
Jared the cedar siding would look so beautiful and bring everything together Love the home you are making for yourself I hope you are very happy there :)
Benefits of Both Open Cell and Closed Cell Foam While open cell and closed cell spray foams both have their own unique advantages, they also share a lot of the same qualities that provide tremendous benefit and value for the consumer. Open cell and closed cell spray foam will create an air barrier for your home. This is the most important factor when it comes to the insulation and energy efficiency of your home. Having an air barrier will effectively keep the interior conditioned air from moving out of your home. Homes installed with Icynene spray foam typically have an ACH (Air changes per hour) of less than 3, which is substantially less than what most typical building codes call for. Since both open and closed cell foams create an air barrier in your home, that means that it will dramatically help the quality of the air inside of your home. Say goodbye to allergens and irritants! In most new construction homes, using either open cell or closed cell foam will mean that you can save even more money by downsizing the HVAC system that’s being put in. Not only will this save on the upfront costs, but also on the monthly cost of keeping it running. Since both open and closed cell foams adhere to the substrate that they are being applied to (instead of sitting in the cavity), there is zero chance for there to be any sagging or settling of the insulation over time. Icynene foam is guaranteed for the life of the structure!
The fan your father was talking about is an attic fan. I had one on a previous house set on a timer. Crack the windows and turn it on an hour before going to bed and set it to go off about 2am. Right when things really start to cool off outside. I'm down near Houston, and I could use it every spring till end of May, and then turn AC off in Sept and use it till Nov. Mine was a large, whole house one (36" mounted in ceiling of hallway). You might be able to convert one of the attic vents with a built-in fan to work like that on the tiny house.
My neighbor had one. I believe it's called a whole house fan. There home always seemed to be a nice temperature 🌡 and it was a dry heat where we lived. Of course it was not during the summer months as everyone had to use their AC. We had an attic fan that drew the hot air out of the attic at either 85° or 95° . It automatically came on as needed. It also helped. Not sure if tge attic fan would help as I don't think you will have a small area above in your home.
Your home looks really nice. I like the new doors you put on. The skirting makes it pop. Rain on a metal roof is so relaxing. Roger is all about solar lights as well. Can't wait to see it lit up. Have a good one Jared
Home an you are lookin great. Feeling better since you lost a few lbs. Probably resting better also. I like the shutters. They set the house off. Your a great decorator. Waiting for your next video of the inside of your home. Just a fan of yours. Take care.
They have a Thermal switch that you can put in the attic and when he gets to whatever temperature you Saturday at it automatically turns the fan on to ventilate the attic and you’ll find out how tight you make your house if you do an airflow test.
Hi Jared your house is really sharp looking, love your colour, new shutters and skirting. I would leave the domer black but it's your house. The colour of the building means nothing once you get it insulated. Your Dad has some really good ideas to help you out. I can't wait for you to get started on your inside walls and your outdoor living areas. You have a really nice spot there Jared. Good luck moving forward. 🌞🇨🇦
I live in the south east so this might not apply there but with those whole house fans you have to be careful not to suck in all the pollen in pollen season. You are doing a great job and the front shutters was just what I was thinking. Great job
The shudders are best as they are. It is an interesting look. Leave the dormer alone. Less is more. The Restoration Couple had a good video on open and closed foam insulation.
The house looks so good Jared. Love the trees in the front yard also. So glad you got rain. Oh, that would be a nice accent on the dormer. Also, are you going to put gutters on the house to catch the run off? Rain barrels are good for watering plants or needed water. That looks good! It makes a big difference. Good job ... I like solar lights too. I hope you sell the Texas property soon. All the best!
The black on the outside is gonna fade from the sun over time and need repainting and I'm not sure how the cedar will look like up there. Your just gonna have to try it to see how it looks. Also check into having foam sprayed inside, something about won't be able to have a wood stove or something it causes. I think what your doing is so amazing. Just be happy and do what you like. God bless you my friend.
The home is looking great! You are doing a fantastic job. Can’t wait to see the next video. The lighting will make a huge difference. Have a great day!
The house is looking great, all those little touches making it a home. Cannot wait to seer the inside done. Quick question, with the rain you had already and maybe more to come are you planning on working on a rain catchment system?
The tiny shed to house is looking amazing. Jared you are doing awesome things. No complaints, distractions or excuses during the heatwave. You are getting it done. I would leave the dormer outside alone. You keep your landscape in great shape. I picture beautiful Hydrangia and Hosters planted around the front of shed/house. All the Crockers Rock. I have enjoyed this 5 yr ride. Blessings from coastal Connecticut.
Grammy thinks the roof triangle on both sides of the dormer would look pretty cool filled in with matching trim, absolutely personalizes it... Jared, you are doing such a great job, the house is starting to look so pretty! And no not girly pretty, home pretty!!!
The sound of rain on a tin roof is so relaxing, l would leave the dormers black and l also love solar lights they look so pretty and welcoming at night.
There's a video by a builder who talked about open v closed cell and brought up going to help out after a hurricane. The example he showed was a house that used open cell. Even though the water didn't rise up above a couple feet the open cell absorbed water up the wall further. I watch Matt at the Build channel a lot, but not sure if that's who posted the video.
That would look good with cedar up there. Get Jason over there to get the doors closed. I'd hate to have wind blow them open and break the glass. Either way with the shutters would be fine Jared they look beautiful.
The new place is shaping up nicely! I do have a couple of questions, only because I didn't catch you mentioning it. Have you planned out your electrical outlets, switches, overhead lighting etc? When we did the garage, we also did the blown insulation, but we wired it first. Put in all the boxes and wiring, that way when the insulation was blown in we didn't have to think about how to install it later. I think that you may have a plan, I may have just missed it. I think we put plastic over the box openings to keep the foam out. Also, I think the idea of cedar shingles on the dormers is a really good one!!! Every tiny detail makes it more and more your home. Put in an inside electrical outlet on each side of the dormers. You might want to add twinkle lights next Christmas season. As for your 70% female viewers... do you not have a mirror? Most guys wouldn't care if you were as ugly as a stump, as long as you're interesting in the building & design category. But the ladies (and probably a few gay guys) they like someone easy on the eyes... with a brain. Before I forget, the plumbing that you have barely mentioned. Then again, I may have just missed it. I didn't see you installing a septic system, but what are you planning on for that? The gray water from the kitchen sink, bathroom sink and shower you can let drain onto the land, that will help green it up a bit. The black water from the toilet, what is the plan there? I hope you are not doing a composting toilet. Since you mentioned having power poles and full electrical added in later, then a full septic situation will make your life easier in the long run. Speaking about the bathroom... what kind of doors are installing for the insides of the home? I don't how you would feel about this, but barn doors hanging from an upper rail. Made from the cedar that you used on the outside of the house. That would bring the inside out and the outside in. Then again you live alone, so I guess doors are optional aren't they? You also didn't mention guttering. That would be a great way to collect water in barrels at the lower end of the house. That way you can use it to water the animals or if you grow a garden at your homestead. Rhubarb is good crop to start with. All you need do it water it and then harvest it for cooking. You can ignore it easily until you want to eat it. Unless you don't care for it, then I wouldn't bother with it. I can be a bit blunt sometimes. I'm not criticizing, I just like giving people ideas.
I'm glad everything stayed dry. I really like the idea of the cedar on the dormer. I the look of the wood accent around the door. It's looking really good. God Bless
YOUR DOING A GREAT JOB ! IT MIGHT LOOK GOOD TO PUT WOOD ON SIDES OF YOUR ROOF WINDOWS , AND A SMALL ONE BOARD STRIP ALL AROUND THE BORDER OF YOUR UPPER WINDOWS ALSO... I KNOW THE TRIM MIGHT HAVE TO BE CUT DOWN TO MAKE THEM THINNER. BUT I THINK IT WOULD BE A NICE IDEA TO FINISH IT ALL OFF NICELY ... VERY HAPPY FOR YOU ...
YES! Do the dormer. Maybe just tack it up to see what it looks like. How about a strip across the top of the dormer then you would not need the other shutters between the windows and door. Just make it easy to remove if you don't like it. Take a vote and see what others think. That is looking so beautiful. Guess I should have waited until the end to write. lol
Jared itss looking beautiful my idea on the Dormer section is take a piece of scrap lumber basically the color of your cedar trim and fit it in there to see what you think it should tell you if you want it to be cedar or if you want it to be black. Right now the way I look at it I would add some black metal and leave it to match the rest of the roof and that's my opinion. I know you will pick what's best for you and I will stand behind it I love what you're doing my best to all this is the granny in Oregon checking out. God bless l
Your home is looking amazing! Love the black with contrasting cedar. It's a big yes from me you put cedar on the sides of the dorma. In your own words "it'll make it POP!" Regards from Scotland ♥️
We didn't have central air in one of my childhood homes . However we had a monster exhaust fan in the hallway . You could open up the vents ,crack the windows and you would need a light blanket at night . We used a double fan in the kitchen , one pulling in , one blowing out . We did have air conditioning in living room and dining room on really hot days .
What you have done to your house has made it really charming to look at. Natural stain, in my opinion, is the right thing. Don't think it could look much better than it does right now.
Looks good, Jared. I wouldn't put cedar on the dormer. The dormer windows look great, inside and out and is accent enough. Lights don't make it look like a prison. Find a great woman who loves you and you love and get out of solitary confinement. You have exceptional character and qualities.👍
Believe your dad was speaking of a whole house fan. They are amazing.
Yes, cedar on dormer would make it pop. It would make the house cedar trimming uniform from top to bottom, it would look completed and fantastic! 👍💕👏😱
By leaving the triangle on the dormer black, it doesn't attract attention and take away from the
amazing window shutters over all look. Leave it as is......black. You don't want to the look to
be to busy & dizzy.
Hugs, Patricia
à
Agree with you Patrica.cedar on dormer.i have a 16x40 shed but building has gone up so much!! I pd 32 thousand for shed alone!!
I actually told my husband the other day that I would trim the dormer with some small cedar trim. Looking good! Keep up the good work!!👍
Yes! Cedar on the sides and/or framing the dormer windows could be the icing on the cake!
Yes add the cedar on the dormer too, would blend it together great! Glad you haven’t really had leaks! Looks great!
I have a metal awning I had it spray foamed with closed cell and the temperature difference was a lot better then no spray foam and it also made the rain noise softer before the foam the rain was so loud u couldn't sit out there.
I think cedar around the dormer would really look awesome. Just my opinion...but it is your home and your preference. You are doing a great job.
Older lady here. Since I can’t build I like to watch building. I love how your house is coming along.
I was thinking that the cedar trim around the dormer would look good.Would tie it all in.
THIS IS WHAT I KNOW WHEN YOU DONE IT'S GOING TO BE SOOOO PRETTY THE IDEAS THAT YOU HAVE ARE UNIQUE
Shed to house looks good! I think the cedar trim on the dormer would be an awesome upgrade!
I do love that color scheme!
HI JARED. LOOKING GREAT. YOU ARE A TRUE CRAFTSMAN. YES THE DORMERS WOULD LOOK GREAT WITH THE WOOD ACCENT 🥰
Add the cedar on the sides of the dormer and also trim it out in front with the cedar. It looks really sweet with the accents you've done so far. God Bless you and your family!
Agree 100%
I would put cedar by the window. Looks good.
It's your place you do your magic. It will be nice no matter what you do. The Texas place came out nice. All the builds and rehab you did.
Jared, you have such good designing taste! Everything looks great👍🌵🤠AZ
Jared , rain on a metal roof is a huge blessing !! It's one of my many childhood cherished memories !! ☔🤗
Love the color scheme on the house. I think it looks fantastic 👏
Leave it black. I like it that way. But totally up to you. Looks amazing so far Jared. So excited for you.
I am so glad everything is going good for you with your new house. So far it is looking very good. As to if you should use cedar on sides of your dormers it would look good but you do you. Your shed to tiny holes, looks really nice . Your place is going to look so good when you get done . I believe in you . Your a hard worker.
Putting the wood on the dormer would sure make it pop and make it stand out. Great idea.
Hey Jared. I haven't finished watching the video yet, but if you haven't already done the smaller shutters check and see what it would look like if you surround the door in the cedar, it might like bring it all together and make it look like it was meant to be one set.

I like the the way you finished the trim by door and solar lights!
House is looking awesome! I love the idea of putting the cedar on the sides of the dormer. I think it will help the outside look well finished.
It looks good leave it like it is😊
The house looks amazing! Glad the leaks weren’t really leaks! I love the metal roof on my tiny house here in Texas! So soothing and relaxing! Send rain Texas way!
I miss stuff like that after going deaf
Yes! Please send the rain!

Jared, do the trim up top at the dormer! Live with it for awhile, then, if you are not happy with it, you can take it out! I love the idea of more trim! 🥰👍🤩
Jarad it's looking amazing. Even better with the solar lights, I have many. Hope you can get your doors sorted xx
The cedar accent on the ends of the dormers would look stunning!
Yes, totally agree with Rachel on the ceiling fans, we do reverse on ours here in central Florida too.
We have an attic fan in our house and we manage the heat and cooling our home. It also lets the hot air out of the attic. Awesome
Man! You have done a great job trimming out the outside! I cannot wait for you to get started on the inside! Love your vision!
Take lots of breaks and drink plenty of water. It’s HOT out there!! I think the added cedar on the dormers would look fantastic!!
Jared the cedar siding would look so beautiful and bring everything together Love the home you are making for yourself I hope you are very happy there :)

Grammy thinks the roof triangle on both sides of the dormer would look pretty cool filled in with matching trim, absolutely personalizes it... Jared, you are doing such a great job, the house is starting to look so pretty! And no not girly pretty, home pretty!!!
Love the cedar shutters on the black home. I think the dormer does need the cedar wood added up there. Enjoy your videos. Have a wonderful day.
Leave it as is, blends better and doesn’t interrupt the flow of the eyes. You have such an eye for design that anything you choose will be awesome.
Cedar around the dormer! Everything looks great!
Cedar around that dormer would look great! So happy for you that there was no big troubles with the rain.
My vote is leave the ends black and trim out the upper windows in cedar! It’s looking great
That would look good with cedar up there.
House looking good keep up the good work God 🙏 bless you all
Your shed to house is looking sharp. I think that the cedar would look nice on each side of the dormers.
I like it all black. You will eventually have a wood decking that will tie in the shutters. But it's your home, you do whatever makes you happy.
I never would have thought to have a black color on the outside but it looks great
God bless l
I sure like how the Cedar stands out. Yes put it on the dormers. Oh where’s your sweat towel?
Your home is looking amazing! Love the black with contrasting cedar. It's a big yes from me you put cedar on the sides of the dorma. In your own words "it'll make it POP!" Regards from Scotland ♥️
Attic Fans really work great, I had one in my farmhouse in Missouri years ago and it is worth your time and money if you don't have A/C.
Your house is beautiful with the shutters and skirting ,don't put yourself down ,you have more than proved you can do anything you want to !💖
We didn't have central air in one of my childhood homes . However we had a monster exhaust fan in the hallway . You could open up the vents ,crack the windows and you would need a light blanket at night . We used a double fan in the kitchen , one pulling in , one blowing out . We did have air conditioning in living room and dining room on really hot days .
Yes. Cedar wrap the dormer. 👍
What you have done to your house has made it really charming to look at. Natural stain, in my opinion, is the right thing. Don't think it could look much better than it does right now.
Cedar up top would look great!!
My house is very light, love your black house.
Looks good, Jared. I wouldn't put cedar on the dormer. The dormer windows look great, inside and out and is accent enough. Lights don't make it look like a prison. Find a great woman who loves you and you love and get out of solitary confinement. You have exceptional character and qualities.👍
I would just leave it, but it is your decision. Meg Queensland, Australia 🇦🇺
Fill it in. It would look good and would balance it out. It really is beautiful. I hope you seal the wood so the color stays the same.
Really like that around the doors. And as for the dormer think that would look nice as well. Great job.
