This is more than a song for me. My brother overdosed on 2015. He had a traumatic youth and fell in love with a toxic person. Guys there aren't enough words in the world to describe the wondrous beauty my brother exuded. He was such a beautiful soul. I carry him with me ever single day. He was the other side of my coin in terms of music. We shared songs constantly. When I lost him, a piece of me was lost as well. Certain songs have captured a piece of his essence perfectly when I hear them. This is one such song. Along with Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah, and Upward Over the Mountain by Iron & Wine. There are even songs in other language I've felt his soul in. But this one truly makes me feel he is with me. I am so very grateful this song exists. It makes me feel things beyond physical sensation. It surpasses words. I am just grateful.

I’ve been a fan of yours for 5 or so years now. Back then, your music found me when I was struggling the most with my bipolar disorder. That’s when I first heard “demons” and I felt understood for once. Then, I heard “cursed” and felt as if you took the thoughts from my mind and put them onto paper. Now, after getting out of an abusive relationship and feeling defeated, you have released a new song that I once again can relate to. Thank you so much Jacob for all the music you have made and continue to make. As I tear up writing this, you don’t realize how much of an inspiration you are and the lives you may save. You have saved mine countless of times and then again today. Battling with mental illness is isolating and can leave you feeling misunderstood. If it wasn’t for your music, I’m not sure where I would be right now. Years ago you liked one of my comments when I was struggling the most and it made me feel seen for once. I was always told that music always finds you when you need it the most. It was a low week this week. Reliving memories of the people my world lost( not exactly mentally healthy, I know.) My family has a list of mental health issues, ones that took my nephew last year. So the line “how am I supposed to love myself when feeling low is sewn into my heritage” hit me in the hole in my chest. Honestly, I just found your music today… but it made me feel less alone at a time where I needed that the most… thank you. Whole heartedly thank you.
Feeling low is sewn into my heritage. I've always felt irrelevant within those walls but I have found building new walls with people you choose who see you and love you flaws and all helps you understand that just because those who should love you may not doesn't mean those you choose won't. ❤
