- Talks between the Taliban and the international community in Qatar today will centre on measures to combat the production of illegal drugs and the economy.
The UN-led meeting is the first to include Taliban officials since they seized power in Afghanistan more than three years ago.
However, the absence of women at the Taliban’s insistence has prompted criticism from rights groups and activists.
The Taliban’s spokesperson said they wanted to engage, but urged others not to interfere in issues they describe as internal, including women’s rights.

@@user-od3ce2xw3p they wanted to overthrow the Taliban and have the "Islamic Republic of Afghanistan" as the replacement due to concerns of their support of terrorism. they managed to seize power from 2004 until 2021, failing to keep the "Islamic Republic of Afghanistan" as the new government as the population of Afghanistan grew to slowly dislike their US companions (for numerous reasons) and thus rebelled (or rather passively resisted, i.e not giving information etc). you also have to understand that the Taliban is largely made up of nomads who have thoroughly memorized their land and learnt how to use it to their advantage as compared to the less experienced US army.

Those womens rights objections happen throughout the middle east and in other places. But because Afghanistan is generally a poor country and has nothing of value to the West, i.e. Oil or Miitary Ally strategic value, they get pushed around and villified for it disproportionally more than others.
