One thing I've noticed is there's a few lines where his voice is really strained (before The Incident) when talking to his horse and idk if that was just a hoarse voice in the studio that was ultimately kept or if it was fully intentional but I love it.
I just noticed John was actually so scared he emptied the whole cartridge into the lion and quickly reloaded in dead eye mode, the man wasn't taking any chances.
It makes sense since he survived an attack from a wolf. Canonically this mission is for chapter 3 Arthur who hasn’t gone through all the craziness of later chapters, but if you do this as John canonically he’s gone through all the craziness and other stuff within the last 6 years
I agree arthur does Sound much more scared then john I would be like arthur be thinking like I'd shoot the dangerous animal like the 🦁 or get torn apart
Arthur's delivery is funnier*. Didn't you pay attention during class? Way more funnier is just grammatically wrong - funnier is already "way more"; it facilitates the same purpose so to include both is simply redundant
Arthur's reaction is better acted I think, the immediate change in tone from "that's a DAWWWG in there" to "sssweet mother of..." and the hyperventilating after were so much better than John's reaction. I love John, I played Red Dead Redemption for years after its release in 2010 probably more than any other game I played during that time, and Rob Wiethoff is fantastic, but I think Roger Clark does a better job lending more emotional weight to scenes like this.
I think it's because Rob's recordings were probably recorded from a booth, while Arther does the mocapping at the same time. Gives more understanding of what you're acting out.
@@bambino3624 probably.. they used arthur's mocap for those scenes..honestly to a great game like RDR2 they shouldn't had gone that epilogue with john path
I like to think that is mostly due to their different personalities. Arthur was a physical intimidating figure, an extremely capable fighter. But he was also a deep thinker, he had a sensible side to him and expresed emotions in a more varied and "human" way. John on the other hand is, to me, the classic tough guy/Hero from the classic western stories. He's never afraid, never scared, never backs down, never cries.
anyone that knows johns character would understand that this reaction makes complete and utter sense; just cause one is more 'obviously' scared doesnt mean its better
People saying John doesn't sound scared, to me it sounds like he's trying to hide his fear, not letting the lion know he's scared. Also i feel like the motion capture is done by Rob for this one.
Agreed. Like, did they not hear how shaky he still sounded? The nervous hiss after? The "Shit!" when he realized the lion was going for him? John was clearly scared, he's just trying to stay calm.
Yet Arthur went out like a badass against just one rat, but whilst mortally ill. Arthur's path was forced to end, as he knew he'd die regardless, but John had many more years to live with his family but he gave it up to stop them from being harassed by the law.
Thats just cause John isn't really scared by anything, the only time he showed fear was when that massive ass bear came out of nowhere By the time of rdr1 John became truly fearless, he wasn't fazed by anything and anyone. To the point that there was a cut side mission where John beats up a literal giant without any fear
You know that people have different ways to cope with fear. The most being is just being plain scared and caustious and the other is being aggresive to mask their fear. I do the same if I feel certain that I'm doomed or cornered, might as well start swinging angrily.
@@jackbluehq6653I was gonna say this, even in Undead Nightmare they stay true to his character without him flinching in the face of an apocalypse. a lot of people think John is ‘weak’ in RDR2, while I agree his character doesn’t show sometimes on side missions I think it still helps to see the reasons why he develops into that fearless stoic figure
