The Who's 'Love Reign O'er Me' Turns My Girlfriend into a 70s Rock Scholar
*******OKAY... I know that Quadrophenia came out in 1973... Not in 1971... and Also John Entwistle died in 2002, and not 2008. Apologies to all of my subscribers and anyone else who happens upon this video! :) *******
NOW, that is out of the way, WELCOME all! This time on A View From the Stage, we are hitting up a true classic. The Who, with their song Love Reign O'er Me. I'm not really sure about Stephanie's opinion of the song... Watch and let me know!!
The Who are one of the most influential and iconic rock bands to ever hit the music scene, known for their raw energy, innovative sound, and boundary-pushing performances. Formed in 1964 in London, the band-led by frontman Roger Daltrey, guitarist Pete Townshend, bassist John Entwistle, and drummer Keith Moon-helped define the mod culture and the British Invasion. With groundbreaking albums like Tommy and Who's Next, The Who revolutionized rock music by blending hard rock, psychedelia, and art rock, creating timeless anthems like "Baba O'Riley" and "My Generation." Their music is packed with emotional depth, powerful instrumentation, and a rebellious spirit that continues to influence artists worldwide.
"Love Reign O'er Me" is one of The Who's most emotionally charged and dramatic songs, featured on their 1973 album Quadrophenia. Written by Pete Townshend, the track represents the culmination of the album's themes, expressing intense feelings of yearning, personal turmoil, and spiritual redemption. With its soaring vocals by Roger Daltrey and explosive instrumentation, the song’s cathartic energy taps into universal themes of longing and the search for peace. It’s a haunting anthem of emotional release, where love and suffering intertwine, capturing the inner chaos of the protagonist while offering a sense of hope and renewal through the metaphor of love reigning over them. The song remains a cornerstone of rock history for its profound impact both musically and emotionally.

In 90 erm.
This song is wonderful when you have smoked one lol
Michael ❤ how could you not love it. A fantastic lyricist. The video was directed by film director Richard Lowenstein. Too many favourites to choose one but I love the th-cam.com/video/26ELh7P2ZtA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=97XV5BHElMp_yvZD Mystify video which shows Michael with the lyrics walking through it with Andrew on the melody, through to recording and in concert, it’s brilliant
“PRETTY GOOOOOD!!!! “
Starting with the band called 'America' was a dumb move.
Another song I liked very much from the album is 5:15, but the whole album is great, I think it's their best album.
Maybe react to INXS Song Live at Wembly .... perhaps "New Sensation" , cheers from Australia
My favorite Who song is Won't Get Fooled Again, but Quadorphenia is my favorite album by them (and one of my favorite albums ever) - so so so good!
Annnnnnd keep an eye out... because we ALSO reacted to Won't Get Fooled Again!!
My favorite Who song is Behind Blue Eyes.
What led me here is that this morning "Violence" popped into my head after watching ABC's 20/20 Special on Luigi Mangione. This could be his theme song or anthem.
Tampere my home town
Nightwish will never be better than this!😢
Get downs.
You better strap on your glasses Stephanie.
Great composition. 🤘🤘🤘 Great reaction 👍👍🤘🤘🤘❤️❤️. Вподобайка! 👍👍👍👍
Floor and Marko. The best era of Nightwish!!!
Floor and Marko! The best era of Nightwish. 🥰
Perhaps you could listen to I Wish I Had An Angel live with Floor if you want a more metal version. And the recent Nightwish version of The Phantom of the Opera with Floor and a guest male vocalist Henk Poort who actually has played Eric (The Phantom) in the musical on numerous occasions. Much closer to the original.
Buenos Aires 2018 version is much fun to watch
How can anyone not love Electric Callboy? Come on 😊 that's not possible. They are such talented and divers in their songs, not just "fun" metall, they are all over the place and insanly good musicians. I saw them live this year and beside the EDM parts everything is excellent live music from every member of this band. I saw a lot of live bands in my live, from Stones over U2 to Nightwish and EC is one of my favorites. So I recomment to watch a live show from them. They spread energy from every pore. And if thats not enought these guys are incredibly nice and wholesome. Greets from Germany
2:03 He said " So if I sing the chorus again all of you will sing along right " PS. good one !
Tuomas wrote the songs especially for anette that she could sing🤨, but Floor took those songs to a much higher level😍🤩🥰💜.
🤗🍒🤘🏻😘 well done as always
Nice reaction. Greetings from Mexico City 🇲🇽
🤩👍💥💯🎼 🤘😎💙🎶
Just Looove the harmonies with Emppu and Troy (guitar and uilleann pipe)
Wacken was an amazing concert, ever single song of it. But this specific song is best experienced by watching the Buenos Aires 2018 live version. The band there shares a special moment with the crowd (make sure to watch a video where that isn't cropped out). And Floor engages with the crowd much more, and dances all over the stage throughout the song.
Hi im steve in uk hope u2 ok . Can u react to devilskin voices official video please.devilskin are rock group from new zealand with the amazing jennie skulander on vocals .keep up great reactions
Thanks for sharing your reaction to a song that conveys Tuomas' desire to go back to his childhood of innocence & wonder.
One of many such songs he has written.
This is a feelgood song. Save your tears for "The Poet and the Pendulum". As for how it sounded live? Look at the crowd!
Hahaha, we reacted to that song! And yes, can confirm...tearjerker.
Take a look to the Version from Buenas Aires 2018 or hellfest 2022. Floor (and the guys) on fire. more than in Wacken 2013.
❣️🤘
Song is about a dying composer wishing to go back to his youth where he felt everything more strongly, thus wanting his tears back. Defintely checkout the 2018 Buenos Aries version. The energy from the crazy Argentinian fans takes the band to a whole new level and Floor's dances all over the whole stage.
Why go to a field in Germany when you can come to the Tuska Festival in Helsinki? Just a few kilometers from the center of Helsinki, there’s a three-day heavy metal festival that you can almost directly reach by public transport. Featuring Marko, Tarja, Powerwolf, Apocalyptica, Battle Beast, etc. and Timo Rautiainen & Trio Niskalaukaus - a band that was more popular in Finland than Nightwish at the turn of the millennium.
I think I prefer the Buenos Aires version a bit more with the crowd interraction, and the three part harmonies can be heard more clearly. (It's not just Floor and Marko singing. Troy - the pipist- sings too, but you can't hear him as well in the Wachen concert, but they're all quite clear in BE. That being said, this is still a very good version with a nice energy and the aforementioned prank.)
Absolutly
This performance is the version with Emppu's stage prank on Floor. Early in the video you see Emppu talking to Troy, telling him of the plan. Later you see Emppu cross behind her , and then you see Floor reaching behind her to adjust something. He had unplugged her in ears. When he crosses back, she turns around and stares him down so he can't do it again. The song is Anette era, from the 2011 Imaginerum album. Later , check out the version from Buenos Aires 2018 (Decades tour), maybe the most fun version with that South American crowd and Floor dancing all over the stage.
I love how Floor looks back at Troy after Empuu unplugs her in ears and Troy just nods his head like "What did you expect!
Also the 2018 Helsinki version (only fan video) is funny: Here Floor wants Emppu to dance with her and he literally runs away and later hides on Troy's platform (together with Marko who also hides there from the dance monster).
@lillianekockritz2796 Is this the one? --> "Nightwish - I Want My Tears Back - Helsinki 15.12.2018 @ Hartwall Arena". Dutch Dance Monster: "All right ladies & gentlemen of Helsinki.. this is the time of the show where you dance and jump, right Emppu? [steps tt side] Come on Emppu, dance time [Emppu in full flight mode] Well, maybe not this time" 😂
@@Columbasta Yes! It is so funny. Both Emppu and Floor like to play pranks on each other.
@lillianekockritz2796 Probably one of the reasons our Valkyrie Goddess was so p!ssed off abt NW not touring. She was thát close to luring Emppu into a dance.. A few more gigs and he'd have surrendered to her relentless chasing.
Thank you folks for reacting to this and "The Islander" recently. Stephanie you should of done a jig with Floor you were close! Merry Christmas sure hope you both have a dynamite 2025!💥💥
Aww. Thank you!!
Im in my 60s and INXS was one of my favourite bands in the 80s and 90s. At the time they were considered as being one of the best live bands in the world which probably comes from their pub rock roots here in Australia. For a time they were right up there in popularity with bands like U2. In 2005 8 years after Michael had passed CBS did a reality show in the US were there was a competition to see who would replace Michael as INXS lead vocalist which was judged by the other band members. It was won by J.D Fortune a Canadian vocalist who for the next 6 months toured the world as their front man even scored a couple of minor hits with new songs but coke binges and mental health issues finally ended the experiment..
The. Power pop band the Raspberries came on the scene in 1972 with their first album. and the top 5 single Go AllThe Way
Came out in 91' - just like Blondie's "Union City Blue" was like the introduction to the WHOLE of the '80s, "Only Shallow" is like the opening to the WHOLE of the '90s. It's like the opening credits for the whole decade.
I love the story that Robert Smith, lead singer, had a notoriously bad memory. He told the music press he was driving to a gig and stopped off enroute at the motorway services. He came out and forgot where he was driving and turned back and went home. A few hours later he got a phone call from the band asking where he was as the venue was full and waiting for him. Oops.
Hahaha. Amazing!!
Shit band.
🤩👍💯💥🎼 🤘😎🇫🇮💙🎶
I grew up listening to INXS. One of my favorite bands. I don’t think you mentioned to your girlfriend, but the lead singer Michael Hutchence passed away in 1997 at the age of 37. You might of told her in a previous video. It still makes me sad. Too young.
Nevermind…. You did talk about it in a previous video. I’m watching the videos out of order.
Yeah... I might have misspoke there too... I definitely did NOT mean malice by what I said, I just know youtube doesn't like the s-word when it comes to making videos
I'm sorry I disagree, I feel I've heard better balance from better bands from the same area. My opinion only.
What about TYA? I'd love to change the world, I've been there too, etc.
Talent is the starting point and gets you only so far - both Marko and especially Floor have spent thousands of hours of training their voices and perfecting their technologies - to get to their level hard work and dedication is needed in great amounts..
The official music video to The Islander is fantastic. Troy partucipated but was not an official member of the band; yet.
Marko, what a talent!
