You know, I see Minit the opposite way. Minit is an otherwise unimpressive game made incredibly interesting by the additional 60 second restriction placed on the player. These puzzles are a lot more interesting when you can only try to piece them together 60 seconds at a time, and every time you step outside, you need to do it with a very specific plan on what you're going to try this time. And honestly, the fact that you can beat it in an hour and be done doesn't really bother me.
Trinity I completely lost my shit when that happened and missed a minit laughing. Then another minit finding your comment and posting this response too.
I loved the “Obligatory Dark Souls Reference”, it really shocked me and I love to see you changing stuff up (even in just minor ways). Your content is so solid and I always watch your videos the moment they’re out, keep up the good work!
It's a game made quickly with a small team to experiment with a fun mechanic. Definitely a great game if you go into it with the right expectations, a fun interesting 2 hour long experience.
That's a shame. I'd heard a lot of praise for the 60-second life mechanic, though I can't help but feel that it's from people getting too carried away with how the concept could be utilised, as opposed to how it's actually executed. Ah well, made for an interesting review anyway.
I've rarely run into a game where my initial reaction of "oh, this looks interesting" has turned to "this isn't for me" as quickly as it did with Minit. I haven't just played free games with more content than this, I've played a *dozen* free games with more content, and more interesting premises to boot. The closest thing I can think of to this was a very lightweight exploration game called Fairune that I bought for a couple of bucks to play on my 3DS. On the other hand we have a game like Kero Blaster, which I gladly paid ten bucks for and have played for something like ten hours at this point without getting bored. I don't think you're at all wrong to call this overpriced. To me this seems like an indie game for people who don't usually play indie games and expect very little of them. Princess Remedy in a World of Hurt was made in 72 hours and *it* feels more polished than this. What a letdown.
Hi, I just found your channel through your Hollow Knight analysis and Ive been binge watching all your videos, I hope you haven't abandoned your channel as I really enjoy your hour long reviews/analysis videos, I just wanted to say keep up the good work.
Don’t worry, he hasn’t abandoned his channel, the next video he is making is on the new god of war, his long videos just take a really long time to make
I really like when you offer suggestions to improve games. It’s often my favorite part about your videos. You have a great mind for improving many games in very interesting ways. If your books are half as interesting I would probably love reading those as well. The one thing I’m missing is the early viewing of videos. I don’t think you’ll ever stop everyone from sharing the early access link but it would be cool if we still got the benefit even if someone abuses it.
How the fuck can you compare Mario to Minit if your progress is savind in those 60 seconds? If the timer runs out an a Mario level, the Goomba you jumped on doesn't stay dead does it?
I don’t understand your criticism of how the plant is growing, it’s completely consistent with the rest of the game yet you seem to think it isn’t? If other people remember meeting you, it makes sense that the plant should also “remember” being watered. How is that a discrepancy?
Normally never comment prior to watching a video but I made it here early and wanted to say that I’m looking forward to it! Love it when you upload and hope things are going well for you!
This was a really good video, I feel like your content is getting better with every video! I like watching super long game critics when I'm going to bed, and for awhile I always thought yours where ok but over the past handful of videos they've gotten way better thanks for the content man.
While I agree that a loop would have been more interesting, I have no idea how you believe that the plant growing doesn't make sense. If it was a time loop, then the plant's growth would RESET. But it's not a loop; time persists, so you are able to grow the plant over a series of days
Well. Answer for "what is the point of this game" is simple. Some folks wanted make game, so they make it and decide to sell it. There is site where people making simple games and you can usually download them for free and if you like it make a donate to the author. For example there is very interesting game named "windowframe" by Daniel Linssen.
It would really be cool of you analysed the ins and outs of Terraria, but it would take you around 600 hours to even come close to doing everything that you can do in that game, so I understand if it never happens. However, I'm confident in saying it's the most *Game* you can get for $10 anywhere on the market, so you could try looking at it from that perspective.
I'm so glad your review exists I thought I was living in an alternate universe where this game was the best thing ever created. Every single review praised it to death an beyond, I bought it, played it, and it was all types of meh.
My favourite thing about this channel is the really great solutions you come with for mechanic of narrative issues in games that you're obliged to "admit" are not that great
I think it is safe to say that your reviews are excellent when I have solidified opinions on liking the games that you review negatively and yet I still find a lot of enjoyment in it. These reviews aren't circle-jerks on loving or hating a game; they are solely for you to voice your own opinion and I have to give you high respect for it. Thanks for the videos and entertainment!
Surely the plant continuing to grow after successively watering it each day is pretty obvious evidence that each minute of gameplay is indeed representative of a successive day in a linear time sequence? Whatever Joseph's argument for the contrary was seemed like pretty bad mental gymnastics.
For 10 dollars for the remake or literally 0 dollars for the original (which has a similarly retro art style), you could get la-mulana, one of the biggest games in sheer scale of the world I've ever played, with fairly similar puzzle solving systems involving cryptic riddles to find items and items to rub against other items. It's not perfect, but it's basically this game but better.
If you like time loops, you should really check out Outer Wilds. It has a really really great story and gameplay mechanics that I think are worth reviewing.
Wow, this game's presentation has been very misleading to me then. I also expected a Majora's Mask type groundhog day situation, but knowing that it's just a time limit before dying and respawning makes the game seem way more shallow. Bummer because it also *looks* and *sounds* really cool on surface. $10 is way too much for this.
There is a 0:08 movie where there is an 8 second loop over and over with every time it being a little different until it becomes so much you doubt its just 8 seconds. I would love such a concept in a game if it is implemented well. Im not sure I want to pay such a price for such a game though
9:38 Are you sure it's just waiting and not based on just killing the enemies and walking close by? I guess there might be a minimum time he appears at but it shouldn't be an issue unless you miss him the first time you get to the screen.
At 1:21 there is a camera right above where the watering pot and sword go, I didn’t see this on the mobile version can someone please tell me what it is?
The 3 important take-aways of this video: - Joseph watches Supernatural - "Super Marayo World" - Obligatory Dark Souls Reference Oh yeah, the video is great as always!
If you're interested in exploring games where time is a finite resource, not enough is said about the Dead Rising games (at least the first two or three). They are not meant to be played through from character level 1, you are meant to go as far as you can and then new game plus your way back to the first day with all your xp and levels, similar to Breath of Fire 5 (which shared some developers apparently), and try again, more than likely a few times before finishing the game.
I think you're right that the game could be a lot more and it's definitely overpriced when not on sale, but if you accept it for what it is I found it to be a ton of fun and deeply satisfying.
Cut the review into 13 videos, 1 minute each.
Now THAT'S meta.
and it would help drive his point. even if in an annoying way.
Or start his introduction again when 1 minute is up, each time presenting different point.

Anyone know if he’s done this running joke in other videos? I’ve only seen it twice so far, here and the SMO video.
It stems from his normal pronunciation of Mario is "Mare-io" rather than "Mahr-io"
Never before have I heard someone mispronounce jumpman so horrendously.

I deeply enjoy the giant middle finger in the form of the pronunciation of the word "Mario".

When I first saw the video, I thought the title was “Mint review”. I was thinking Joseph lost his goddamn mind and started making shit post reviews.
Mispronouncing Mario as much as possible to satirize all of the petty complaints on the Odyssey video; well played.
Geonjaha ikr. He didn't like it much. Big deal. His opinion. People love blowing things out of proportion.
