  • Feni has been a part of Goa's culture for centuries. The Portuguese brought cashew (kaju) to Goa and India. I met up with one of Goa's biggest liquor Dealer - Hansel Vaz, who told me all about this drink, it's recipe, it's history, making and tasting. His brand name is Cazulo's Premium Feni, just in case you want to try it yourself - probably the best feni in Goa.

Small correction bro. Vasco da Gama first landed on the coast of calicut in kerala even before they colonised goa. They even brought red chillies as an addition to the list stated by our distiller. Even some of artifacts brought by them got adopted into the culture of goa and malabar region of kerala. Even cuisines are similar. For example, what Goans call chicken xacuti is varatharachha kozi curry in malabar Kerala. That is all. But i like how both communities among the same coast have lot of similarities due the influence of the past. Love them both 🙏✌️

In fact, I went to Kerala straight after Goa and the similarities in both cultures, as you said, are pretty evident. Loved the rustic feel of Calicut. Hopefully, I will go back to create something there soon!

At 6.28, India might have been devoid of many things had Portuguese not brought with them so many ingredients, as if life came to a stand still without them before they made their way into our country, there are too many things in this world that we haven't heard about them, so are we feeling the devoid.

Don't generalise Indians. Not all of us look at our culture in an inferior way. Of-course Feni smells. So what ? Toddy Smells too ! I love Feni, and Toddy, and I would prefer them to any other alcoholic Beverage, at any given day. Good Video. God Bless You.

Good content to watch. Nice video editing. High standards as a documentary. Yes, an amalgamation of many good aspects of various cultures is what is called Indian culture. Food is not an exception to this. That is why Indian cuisine is the best in the world.

India IS an amalgamation of different cultures, cuisines, religions etc ... the issue of being purely Indian only arises when one culture thinks it is superior and the tries to impose itself on the pagans, when inquisitions are carried out on the heathens, when the locals are called kaffirs. Mr Vaz and other viewers should not try and mix these two issues ... each should stick to their area of expertise.

Goans love drinking alcohol so much that if something good happens to them or in their families, they drink to celebrate it. On the other hand, if something bad happens to them or in their families, they drink to forget their sorrows. And if nothing happens to them or in their families, they drink to make things happen.
Hence, we need to do something about this problem and make Goans stop drinking alcohol.

    • @wilfredfernandes2952

I think the Goans who used to drink alcohol at the drop of a hat is passing away and this generation not many into alcohol on regular basis .Maybe at weddings and parties. It's the migrants filling up the taverns of Goa and the domestic tourists consuming maximum alcohol in Goa. Foreign tourists are mostly beer drinkers.
