  • Happy Wednesday! I hope you are having a great week. This is a video in answer to alot of questions I get on here and on Instagram about more budget BFS options so I've bought myself a budget BFS reel from AliExpress in the Dark Knight and strapped it onto my Benkei and then taken them for a spin on the canal! I want to see if this set up (which comes in under £200) can do. I am under no illusions it will most likely sit in the power bait finesse bracket (3-10gr) but if it can preform in that area for the money it will be a great starter set up for those looking to try light lure fishing on a baitcaster! I will put a link below if you want to see where I purchased the reel from. This video is not so much about catching fish and more about getting a good first impression of what the Black Knight and Major Craft Benkei combi can do for less than 200 quid! As always I hope you are all well and please send me a msg on Instagram @londonperchfinder or drop me a comment if you have any other questions or ideas of videos you would like to see me make. I will do my best to answer you and get out and make some more vids in the near future. It's been a crazy start to the start of my new job with Covid kicking about but I'm starting to find some time to get out and about so watch this space for more vids soon. Tight lines until next time! 👊🙌

    Hi Adam, I’ve been looking forward to this video since you announced it on Instagram and you didn’t disappoint. Well explained and for someone like me a complete novice at using a baitcaster never mind bfs you have put my mind at rest. I got the GH100 after watching all your earlier videos cuz I didn’t want to spend a lot on a setup and not like it. I have used the reel probably five times now and even got a few perch on it. I absolutely love fishing with this ultra light setup. The GH100 casts 3+grams no problem for me but I start to run into problems -3grams and find myself constantly adjusting the break to cope. The spool on the reel has already got signs of wear on the edge don’t know how, never had the line caught between the spool and side plate. Any way after all that because I love fishing with this kind of setup so much, I’ve made the jump and now waiting for my Shimano scorpion to arrive couldn’t afford anything higher spec. Once again thanks for the inspiration👍🎣

    Hi Adam. I've taken the plunge and brought a budget BFS rig 🤗. As I mentioned previously you are very good at the educational stuff so any chance you can do a casting vid. By casting I do specifically mean the types of cast and action used to load the rod correctly. I have watched a few vids but it's always difficult to actually see what they are doing? I have managed to start getting a lure out in the general direction I'm aiming with a roll cast but the moment I try a side cast, back hand or overhead it goes very wrong and I suspect it's because I'm not loading the rod correctly (XF action) rather than the settings on the reel. Anyway looking forward to your next offering whatever that might be. Tight lines!

    Great video! Waiting for the review of the new Rapala net :D what are the rod lure weights? I own a Daiwa Fuego full BFS tuned and a gh100. Quite impressed by the last one to be honest.

    Also my tsu xf50 will cast 2g comfortably. Once you get the hang of aiming it doesn't tend to swing to the left like ya say.

    You can buy used reels or older Models like the Shimano Chronarch 101 D7 and buy a Hedgehog Spool MT0726RR or MT0725 and you have a BFS Reel, i buy a shallow Avail ALD0936RR Honeycomb Spool for my Aldebaran 09 for example!

    I've bought a TSU Dark Wolf BFS reel which I use on my 'heavier' BFS set up. My Alderbaran I use on the lighter lures, jigheads etc.
    There IS a difference in quality and the Dark Wolf doesn't cast lighter lures

    Hi Adam, loving the vids.
    I’ve been looking at the speedstyle and the max ranges but can’t find anyone that sells them! How do the other rods in major craft compare? Although if I could get the MSX, or even the MSX LIMITED as they do a rod 3.5 to 10.5 vmc I’d be interested!
    Thanks mate, enjoying the bfs fishing with the nerds etc. Looking forward to the next few months.👍👍

    I heard aomething about how the left hand models magnet poles are not set correctly. And this is because all the magnet poles are set for RH models even on the LH models. So supposedly LH model brakes are compromised. I dont have a RH model so i can't test the difference.

    Hi Adam, so i understand there is a floor to how low a weight this reel may cast, but, do the brakes handle heavier lures, like if you were casting 6gram lures around a river but then went to a lake and wanted to throw say 12-15gr lures around, would the brakes handle that much weight?

  • @RonMTube

    Got a Black Knight this week and found it casting heavily left. Transferred the line to my GH100 and cast with the same rod and lures and the GH100 cast on target. The Black Knight made a lot of noise during casts so something is rubbing or otherwise wrong. Disappointed.

    Hi I know you are a huge advocate of the Aldebaron bfs xg. (I can understand why after reading and using a Abu Garcia Black Max 3 and more recently the un-modded Daiwa Prorex TW100SV (which is good)
    I am thinking of looking at another reel, either the Calcutta Conquest bfs or one of the Aldebaron bfs or the Aldebaron (normal)
    What’s your opinion of the Calcutta Conquest bfs? And which of the two Aldebarons would you prefer to buy first?
    (You may have both). Your thoughts are appreciated
    Regards

Also regarding your net, how do you deploy so quickly and completely?? I have pretty much the same net and I find it a bit faffy. Ps great video again. I already have Benkei but was really hard to decide which one to choose because of lack of proper reviews. Shimano have spent years developing Carbon Infused Polymer and other materials to reduce the weight but keep the torsional rigidity in products, I can’t begin to imagine the same development has gone into the Chinese copies. I notice that they’ve copied some parts from Shimano and then taken the Daiwa handle/ grips as well, why innovate when you can take the best bits from each and mash them together.

    • @Watercraftfishingtv
      @Watercraftfishingtv  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bang on mate. Innovation should always be held in higher regard IMO! Hope you're well Andy! 👊

  • @sgtpavlov
    @sgtpavlov 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One thing you'd probably want to do right away with a reel like that is, replace the bearings with hybrid ceramic ones, and that spool will move a whole lot easier. That's what I do when I get the cheaper chinese reels.

    Why do you use spool tension? Isn’t that basically added weight to your spool? I personally don’t use any at all and feel like I am much more accurate without it

    • @Watercraftfishingtv
      @Watercraftfishingtv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Added weight? I tend to set the tension to allow the weight that I'm using to hit the water without an over run then take it back a little to make it slightly faster and use my thumb to control the flight until the breaks start to kick in towards the end of the cast. But what ever works for you keep doing it mate! 👊🙌

    @fishingfanaticsuk 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Its funny you say shimano breaking system, I'm sure penn mag 525 reels were out quite a long time before shimano was. OK granted their not baitcasters but the breaking system is very similar and has been around for 20 years or so.

    • @Watercraftfishingtv
      @Watercraftfishingtv  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi mate! True magnetic breaks have been around for ages. The FTB breaks from the Shimano BFS reels work on the inside of the non ported section of their spool and not the outside of the spool like the Penn. And the breaking system on the GH100 and the Dark Knight is the very same concept! Ie the magnets sit upwards rather than sideways so can allow for spool design to be thinner whilst allowing maximum breaking. The Penn is more like the breaks on my Abu Roxani. Casting wise it is accurate once you start to aim slightly right. But it doesn't mean that's a bad thing it's just what it can do! Hope you're well mate! 👊🙌

    • @fishingfanaticsuk
      @fishingfanaticsuk 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Arh right I've got ya! I didn't know that about the shimano's so I'll stand corrected. Yeah I'm casting comfortably and accurately with the xf50 now (although the tip snapped on the rod so I'm back to fixed spools for the moment). Yeah I'm doing well thanks. First zed yesterday and the video will be live tomorrow evening so we'll happy with that.
