People in the movie theater erupted in shouts and applause when DeNiro blew everybody away in that amazing Russian roulette scene. I’ll always admire Cimino for sticking up for Cazale.
@@DingDanggI don't think Heaven's Gate ruined his carrer. After HG, he still managed to direct four full lenght movies with high production values and with cast members such as Mickey Rourke, John Lone, Christopher Lambert, Anthony Hopkins, Mimi Rogers, Elias Koteas, Woody Harrelson and John Seda, among others. The problem is that all those four movies, with no exception, were big box office and critical failures.
2018, August filmeded at his home in Sann Encino. It was good interview. Michael Camento one of the best. I metted him last week in California with my wife Micbe
This interview wasn't included on the 2-Disc Universal Legacy DVD in 2005, but now I think I know why. Cimino is badmouthing people left and right in this interview. He makes screenwriter Deric Washburn look bad, and the producers at EMI, etc. Also, who knows if what Cimino is saying is even truthful. I'm sure Deric Washburn wasn't happy to hear it.
I'm not so sure what he is saying is truthful. Wonderful filmmaker, absolutely fantastic. One of my personal favourites, but the man was obviously a master of deception. He lied about his placement in the army, he lied about his date of birth (at least twice) and he might well have lied about many other things. None of this matters to me because in the end, he was a terrific director. But you shouldn't always believe what he says.
Exactly. If anyone wants to know what happened to Cimino, the arrogance and pretension presented here tells you everything. The guy wasn't without talent, but he clearly lacked social graces. I'm reading Charles Elton's biography of Cimino right now. He's a fascinating figure, but it's not surprising that people ran out of patience with him (especially after his films weren't making money).
@@patriciasimon4402 He had told writers and reporters at different times that he was born in 1943 and 1952, and that simply can't be true as he finished 12th grade in 1956. He was born in 1939.
He doesn’t seem to understand that an actor dying in the middle of shooting is indeed a big problem. That kind of carefree attitude explains the rest of his career.

Très grand réalisateur, reposez en paix MONSIEUR Cimino
Now if somebody would make a biopic of Michael Cimino and get Jon Lovitz to play him that would be great.
mo O
Who would play him post plastic surgery?
I thought this was a Martin Short character from the thumbnail.
RIP. The Deer Hunter still holds up!
Love his sunglasses! RIP!
Great film maker great human being ! R.I.P Michael
They say he was a real piece of shit when you seperate the man from the work
@@imnotlaurakightlinger5945 i never knew from what I was told he was a nice guy perhaps I heard wrong.
@@imnotlaurakightlinger5945 qui dit ça ?
Only the films he made matter. The private man : who cares ?
des anecrodes passionantes d'un chef d'œuvre vénéré !!
Brilliant director. Well deserved Oscar.
What do you think happened with Heaven's Gate? Honest question.
RIP. A strange genius
This guy reminds me of Phil Spector
I had no idea Cimino took the bizarre route of plastic surgery and ended up looking and acting like Phil Spector. Very weird.
He was obviously a Phil Spector wannabe. His moviemaking eccentricities were similar to what Phil Spector did with the wall of sound
Lovitz before the surgery, a female actor to play him after the surgery. Cimino was brilliant. I wish that he would have made The Fountainhead.
Have you seen the John Savage interview from the same DVD extras?
Tell me

Boy!ashes didn’t fall on his fingers !!
RIP Michael Cimino. What happen to him in the last years? He went mad?
Sadly Heavens Gate sank his career

@@sarahwentforalemonwedgeand8991 it's impossible. He's died in 2016. The interview is 2003 as ending credits says.
@@sarahwentforalemonwedgeand8991 This is such a Michael Cimino comment: to claim you met the man two years after he died.

That cigarette ash tho.
I think he got his image from Phil Spector

He understands but he didn't want to fire his actor who had cancer.
