I also have a question to ask. Why would you block with your edge? Wouldn't that chip the edges? I was told that soldiers would use the flat of their blade to preserve their sword more.

We don't use the edge directly either, notice I twist and turn as I block up or parry up, it just seems like the edge is block, but as you turn, it difuse and redirect the opponent's blade already, it's not a direct block too.

Mak you are such a beast man. I never would have guessed that sword was so heavy when you first started swinging it. Great idea to use a heavier sword for training to get lightning fast with one of a more reasonable weight.
Let ask you how much extra would they charge to sharpen it I'm talking about razor sharp and does it comes with sheath? and if not how much for sheath? and I also i saw some spray cans and things what are those for?
Kevin Robles I have no idea but you will not want a heavy sword to be "razor sharp" because this not very logical. You don't need super sharp edge on the sword, all that weight is going to swing the head off an elephant already. I don't see a sheath out there too...the spray cans? where?/ maybe the maintenace kit and oil?

HAhahaha! Thanks for coming back! I love this sword a lot for the weight, it's a great training tool! The blade is 52 HRC, which IS actually okay to chop wood, but chains..? no thx, spare the edge.. hahaha!

I got it from my student because he is a reseller of these things, but yes this is made by Windlass, the exact thing that Museum Replica is selling, but I got it cheaper! LOL!

Not really, when you block up, your wrist "roll" over and so it is also going to be the flat that blocks at the end, not the edge. Just like blocking with bare hands, you never lift the arm to block 90 degree on, you roll over as you black. See my move again, I have to twist and roll up, and so if the blade is in contact, it will be touching the flat at the end.

hheennrryy12 Suggest you the cold moon sword then, it's sold at Kungfudirect, don't come sharp, but can be sharpened by yourself for cutting too. VERY sturdy construction and good steel used, (high carbon steel), which is a functional blade but sold for about half the price of a Cold Steel brand GIM.

hahaha I order from another source. and it is my student who got it for me, which he got it for a good price, and "in stock" as well. Prepare to clean the blade when you get it, it is SUPER greasy!

Hahaha~ It's 8lb but well balanced and so you can swing it too, with some wrist power. It's really a good sword for training, no doubt. I wonder what can happen if it is sharpened fully? Wow, or you don't even need a sharp edge to cut, just swing it and let the weight do the job, LOL!
LOL! Depends how far the point of balance is though. A 3lb sword with POB out half way the blade is like hell too. LOL!

Thanks for the review. I found an Atlantean sword in a pawn shop for 50 bucks. It looks like a factory second I think. Still in great shape with the box. The only problem with it is that the hilt is loose. I'd have to remove the pommel I guess, but its pretty secure. Not sure how to fix it. Any advice would be great. It's an awesome sword, it seems like a waste if it can't be fixed. At least it looks great as a display piece.

seriously, I have no idea because I never did that to mine, and the saber of mine is now also having this same problem too and I am having trouble disassembling it as well. Cannot take the pommel off!

Kevin Robles I suspect it is a rat-tail tang, though likely thicker than most. I've never disassembled mine.
Try Museum Replicas (www.museumreplicas.com). They have one made by Windlass Steelcrafts and is the one featured in this clip. Their stuff is also featured from time to time at Cult of Athena.
I don't think it would be a rat-tail, mines supposedly battle ready and its feels that way in the how its put together. Plus the blade is to heavy for a rat tail to be safe, its bloody heavy lol

NorwegianKnifeDude Bluing is used on guns most of the time, and what I did was cold blue. All you do is to clean the metal and then apply the liquid on it, then your blade will turn from silver to black! I mixed the liquid with water and dilute it, so it gave you a gray / blue tone! Look better than black! You can search up "bluing gun barrels" and see how the PROs do it for the guns!

Hi Mak...Jo...Si... Wow.! good video, that sword is nice looking , it weighs as much as German K-98 Mauser Rifle, yet you gracefully managed to swing it and wave it around with little effort, I don't think you would be able to slice through a ankle chain like Schwarzenegger's Conan when he struck it against the rock, only Conan can do that using Hollywood special effects of course ... :>) thanks for sharing

with western style double edge blades, you always "block" or parry with the side of the blade, and NEVER the edges. neat video though. I like the lightweight look of that chinese broadsword-like blade.

the valeria sword is very nicly done,funny that you say valeria,s sword is kinda like an chinese/asian model as the sword is actualy moddeled after the hyrcanian style.
so valerias sword is an hyrcanian sword.
ps the hyrcania is the asian/eastern part of the conan lore
Thanks for the info! Actually my valeria's saber is kinda loosening up now, dunno why but it just happened by itself, never smack things with it too, just sit there and it got loosen up magically.. damn! Now I want to fix this thing but I cannot unscrew the pommel out! DARNG!

if you do manage to looen the pommel and you are able to reach the thread of it try to put some locktite on it and screw it tight again,i can garantee you it will never loosen again

Chiinnature i think the top part of the pommel comes apart from the rest of the pommel its hollow try warming it up to soften the glue hope this works cheers mate great vids kingy!!

I watched the movie this weekend on IFC and fell in love with the sword all over again.

They are asking over $3000 bucks for it and a 6 month wait. I would rather spend $2600 on a new Tavor bullpup rifle and spend the other $400 on a Windless Conan sword.

Kevin Robles Ryan swords hand forge them from 1095 high carbon and heat treat it for a little over $500 with a belt sheath for it. (so you can get a better one than the 4000 dollar one for 500 dollars.)
I have seen photos of the disassembled one, it is definitely a THICK and meaty full tang there, no doubt. I banged mine on hard surface a few times, no problem at all. This is a functional sword, it can be sharpened for chopping!
Sorry but I don't know about any good books at all in this field. If you really like Chinese sword fighting, it's best to learn from a teacher.

hey dude, you should show us how the blueing of the blades is done that looks quite cool!
ShaNagmaImmuru quite easy, mix some gun blue with water and wipe the blade over, you get it blued! Rinse with water, and re-oil the blade.

This sword is so big because it was of an ancient giant where he found in the cave and these ancient giants were told by conan's father in the beginning of the movie.
