  • Standing at 12.7m tall the Pou represents five of our Ariki (Māori gods) that provide and protect our surroundings. At the bow of the waka (very top of the pou) are seven stars of Matariki to represent Ranginui our sky father and the navigation for waka. Standing tall at the top holding a Toki is Tangaroa god of the sea and the provider of kaimoana, beneath him stands his brother Tāwhirimātea god of the winds and weather, below him is another brother Tāne Mahuta god of forests and birds. At the base is their Mother, Papauūānuku or Mother Earth. At the spine of the pou is the waka that represents their journey together.
