    Thank you for the “excellent information” regarding these conditions. I know now that I need to replace my pump…

    Excellent explanation thank you. How do I fix this ?

      If your pump keeps turning off you either have a bad electrical breaker, a ground fault in the circuit or pump, or most likely a motor that is on its way out and pulling too much current. How long does it run before it turns off? Does it just stop working or does it trip the breaker? Most likely you will need a new motor, and possibly just a better idea to replace the whole pump. Otherwise you may end up needing an electrician to check a few things or replace a breaker but more commonly the pump is failing.

    Hi, Just wondering If the pump states "thermally protected" then wouldn't it automatically cut off when the pump runs dry and overheats thus protecting the plastics?

    My pump overheats because it won't stop priming. I am also guessing it is the early stage of total failure. Thanks for the video!

    Is there any way to fix it if that’s the case?

    You don’t have to replace the entire pump, just the motor. As long as everything else is good on it.

    Poolguy forgot to tighten the skimmer basket on the housing next to pump! For how long i'm not sure, maybe a day or two! The gurguling sound in the pool caught my attention, go to pump & condensation on lid of skimmer, shut off pump i lifted the lid with my finger tips effortlessly it popped off, steam coming out of skimmer hóusing! Gave it a day to see if it would start! Started right up! Couple months later a power surge in the neighborhood then the power went out but came right on! Pump wasn't on, thats when pump stalled error displayed on hayward sp3400vsp motor controller! It will start 15 sec into the prime, check system lights up pump stops & recycles to normal & trys again, repeats same error on display! Any thoughts?

      Mines doing the same thing. Did you find out how to fix?

    So basically the pump is no good no more if this happens? I bought a brand new one and it didn't make it a day. I do believe it ran dry because the main lid wasnt tightened and water was barely running through the pump. Now it doesnt stay on over 5 minutes.

      It is possible that it is heat damaged, but pretty unlikely. More likely there is a problem with breaker size for the motor size or possibly a voltage issue...heat can damage the motor to the point where it will not run for long until it turns off, but not usually so fast like this. Usually slowly over time. Might have another problem. Have an electrician test the current the pump is drawing and compare it to the manufacturer specifcations on the service label for max current draw. This will tell you if the motor is damaged from heat and drawing too many amps.

    My pumps screen is off, but I can turn it on from the timer. Can you tell me what is wrong with my pump.

    Just bought a house and noticed the filter pump comes on for about 15 seconds and then shuts itself off. It tries to come back on periodically but will again shut off after a few seconds. It is extremely hot to the touch. I have a feeling the previous home owner experienced the same but did not tell me about the failing motor... Thanks for the info!

    My pump tripped the breaker after four days of running straight. I had electrician come out and he told me don’t get into the pool when the pump is on which I thought was ridiculous. He said the electricity was fine though is there any harm in getting in the pool?

    My pool pump swimming exercise machine keeps turning off after about 5 seconds. It's not hot and not tripping. This machine has not had more than two hours use over a few years.

    My pump trips at startup, I had a pool guy come out and tell me the circuit breaker amp was too low at 20 amps, and I needed to upgrade to 25 amps since it takes more "juice" to get the pump started then it powers down to about 18 amps to run continueously. My question is, how could this be true after owning this house/pool pump for over two years and now it's just beginning to happen?

      Never exceed the MOP (Maximum Over current Protection) listed on your motor.

    • @oldkid6
      @oldkid6 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why? What he's proposing is only 5 more amps on the circuit.

    • @SaltySnook
      @SaltySnook 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The MOP is designed to protect your pump. The breaker is designed to protect the electrical circuit from damage or fire.

    • @oldkid6
      @oldkid6 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      So if the pool guy is wrong that I shouldn't go to 25 amps, and the pool pump still works, then what's the problem? I get a different answer from every "expert" I ask why the breaker trips, keep in mind that it doesn't trip each time the pump tries to turn on via the pool timer. It will happen maybe once or twice a week. If I call an electrician he'll say to call the pool guy because it's likely a faulty pump, if I call a pool guy he'll say call an electrician because the pump is working fine. Do you know the answer?

    This is not troubleshooting. Troubleshooting implies that there's.a solution "Pump wont power up, it must be dead"
