Marc my Dad taught me to drive in his green mini delivery van back in 1971. (mum and dad were florists) I’ve just remembered it also had a roof vent just like yours. Lovely happy memories ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks Rich that’s much appreciated the van now has some structure back which is the main thing. Cheers for watching, also some Volvo 244 content coming soon 👍
Glad you’re enjoying it! It’s been a long time coming. Definitely do it when you can! It’s rewarding for sure. Check out our other playlists for minis.
My first motor when passed test .Was an Apprentice .1300 engine in mine .Speedo off the scale great. Lil motor .New Respray bucket seats .The fun 😅😅 .My next car MG Midget the fun continued 😅😅 .Went the usual route we all did back in the day every type of minis and fords .Hard to think they were two a penny .But houses were only 3000k . Classics became my hobby along with Fishing .What more could you want .
Brilliant job Mark don't keep knocking yourself would love another van myself maybe we have a sidewalk on the jig just now but we're getting on just keep getting inspiration from you guys can't wait for next episode
Thanks Alan a much appreciated comment. all the best with your sidewalk it sounds a good project. We will have some content of our sidewalk coming soon so keep an eye out for that 👍
You've done a great job on this . Patience is the virtue ! I've been doing this for 55years so l know what it takes . However , l would have dropped the tank as it maybe riddled with holes and weld spatter could have dropped through the floor into the tank !!! You made me laugh at 21.34 "l've got no pressure in my tool " l know exactly what you mean 😅😅😅 well done
Thanks definitely takes time this sort of work but it’s rewarding when it’s done that’s for sure. The tank is completely empty and the bottom has nearly fell off it. So I wasn’t worried. The whole car will be stripped shortly I just wanted to get this repair done. Haha you need pressure in your tools! It was driving me mad so stopped and ordered a new air line!
@@SimpsonsClassics Electric tools are best for grinding. Unless you have a dryer your air system will get full of water using air tools all the time due to excessive air flow, although maybe not so bad during very cold weather with low humidity. Mig welding is very hard and brittle so it's almost impossible to planish weld seams although it looks like the distortion is pretty low 👍
@SalvageMasterEssex I agree I much prefer electric tools but I have a little sander so I wanted to use that. I will come back and finish off for sure. The heat distortion isn’t too bad but does need some more fettling. All in all it’s really not too bad. Thanks for watching.
Wat a old classic and worth alot of money i had a white one completely standard in the late 90s but the sills was horrendous with plates everywhere and regreted selling it but it went to a good home a good friend i haven't seen for 20 years as i moved away who was into minis so not sure if he still got it or not as liveing on the family farm you never know
I love mini van it’s my favourite variant of the classic mini, and like mentioned my dream mini. Maybe you should see if that old one of yours is still about… maybe get her back?
@@SimpsonsClassics could not afford it even if I wanted it back to be honest I'm driving a mk1 focus 30 thousand full service history can't work anymore 25 years of welder fabricatior and last three years been horrible never been right after getting Covid
Grand to watch someone who says that he's no expert, I don't know if you have already been told about fitzee, he's a Canadian doing the same as you but as a professional. Give him a watch he may have some tips for you, even just finding one tip could save you a lot of time over just one car.
Yes they are tiny compared to vans these days. The repair actually looks really decent from the inside. Minor work to do. I will get the camera in there during the next video. Thanks for watching 👍
And it’s underway. It’s looking so much nicer that an area that was a big hole is now solid once more. Plenty of other areas to tackle like the floor etc. it you’ll soon have a list to start working through. Have you thought about the branding when it’s repainted? Are you going to put Simpson’s Classics on it or keep the Stitch N Send branding on it?
Hey glad your enjoying it. Yes I have a clear vision of what the van will look like. It will be the same colour the shade of green that it is. With a my name hand sign written down the side of it. That’s the plan 👍
Yeah this is a odd place to go, like mentioned in the previous video, it’s believed that the van was parked under some sort of lean to and the water just dripped on it for many many years. Thanks for watching 👍
It's just a guess, but I wonder if the roof gutter profiles are different because the vans used the Mk1 shell for the entire production run, but the estates got altered in line with the Mk3-onwards updates (bigger doors and so on), so they used different pressings?
Hey that’s is a very good point you know I didn’t think that. It’s only a slight change but definitely a change. I will be doing some more research that’s for sure. Thank you for watching 👍
A mini van with back doors that aren't rotten! How did that happen? My dad and I restored one when I was 16, for a 7 year old car it was really rotten. You forget how poor 70s cars were.
Oh they are rotten they are full of filler and the window frames have gone but not the worst set I have seen. I would say cars from the 70’s are better than cars of today which are often scrapped or rotten before they are 5 years old. Thanks for watching Stephen 👍
Not being clever, genuine question. Why didn't you take the orange paint off and primer it before you welded it in? Would you not have had more access and that job would have been easier before it was attached to the car?
No that’s a valid question buddy. I took off what was needed to do a clean weld. The whole car will have a bare metal respray so I wasn’t bothered at this stage. Thanks for watching Rob 👍
Proper nice repair that, good to see old clubbys roof helping another out 🙂
Looks like a great repair Marc looking forward to the next instalment.
Cheers Graham. Much appreciated 👍
Very tidy repair, I wish I spent a bit longer getting my doors straight on mine before paint so you're doing it right spending time now!
Cheers thanks a much appreciated comment.
Amazing job Marc. Not many would have the guts to take on a repair of that magnitude and you have done it like a champ.
Thanks it was a different one that’s for sure but I like the challenge. Cheers for watching 👍
While watching i was saying to myself... wow that looks bloody good 👍. You've definitely got 10/10 from me. The orange clubman has saved the day.
Thanks buddy a much appreciated comment. Nice to have this repair done.
That is a lovely repair 👌 turned out cracking 😎🫡

Hey I am glad it brings back happy memories that’s ace! Thanks for watching buddy 👍
Your logical planning, skill level and attention to detail is once again demonstrated at its best in this video Marc. Well done and thank you
Thank you a much appreciated comment there. Glad you enjoyed the video 👍
Great save Marc. Slow and steady. Can’t wait to see this one finished
Thanks buddy it’s exciting to be finally on with this van now
That was a great repair.
The right path to take was to preserve as much of the original Van as possible.👍🏼👍🏼
Cheers glad you agree. Thanks for watching 👍
Great job, looks so much better! Keep up the good work.
Don't beat yourself up mate. That looks really great, there's nothing wrong with having high standards 👍
Thanks buddy much appreciated 👍
Having worked your magic on the 245, it doesn't surprise me that you have done yet another brilliant job on the Mini. Great video fella

Nice work patience pays off. Nicely done Mark
Nice repair, and in that cold weather too. 🐞
Lovely car, well worth saving, can't be many about now. I've a Clubby Estate, love em!
Nice work Marc, love that the van is now getting worked on. Once the funds allow I would love to take the plunge into a project like this.

Nice repair - well done.
That looks a dam good job well done.Very tricky to do a repair like that especially around the rain gutter. 👍
Thank you Dave it was a tricky one and like mentioned not fully finished yet but its ten times better than in was. Cheers for watching.
you've done a great repair there👍
Cheers thanks
It's actually a easy fix but depends on skill and confidence situation ❤
New year, new project. So glad your starting to work on this.
Thanks I hope you enjoy the episode
Looks good, very satisfying doing a repair like that, looks very neat to me.
Thanks 👍
Nice job and a major improvement!
Great job looks so good
It’s great to see another mini van being saved …. Great motors we need to keep them going… all the best

Brilliant Marc, stop beating yourself up. What you do in resurrecting these iconic cars is amazing. Keep it up 👍
Thank you buddy much appreciated comment 👍
Nice job Marc. Good to see this project on the go :)

Hitting the washers with no windscreen cracked me up 😂
I know I’d do that.
Haha out of everything that would work I did not expect those to one have water in and two to even work that well 🤣
Excellent panel graft Marc, cheers.

What a transformation, that looks spot on mate!! Little win for the van, don’t beat yourself up man that’s as huge step for you and the van 👍🏻
Thanks buddy. I always do you always want it better but I am sure I can make good of it. So happy it’s a big job done

Appreciate that thanks buddy. Definitely nice to get the panel in.
Yey, it's on! Love this.
The first vehicle I owned after leaving the Army in 1967 was a grey minivan, ah the memories.
Excellent video and a fantastic repair. Really enjoyed this video as I'm having so much crap with my daily cars.
Sorry to hear your having crap with your daily cars. Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed it 👍
Well done marc looking great 👍 ❤

Fantastic work. Love mini vans. Would love one with 1.3 engine 👍🏆🇬🇧
Thanks! This one will be getting some sort of 1275 or bigger 👍
Looks great on camera, I’d be well happy with that 👍
Beautiful piece of work.

Good job mate! Flap disc, some filler & it'll look great. Don't be too hard on yourself, you're doing a grand job!

That was a very tricky section to work on - results looking really decent I'd say!

Minus 6 would be nice, nicely done on the roof..
That would look sick tubbed out with some big tires and a blower sticking out the hood.
10 out of 10 buddy, smashed it

Pretty good repair of a very awkward area, needs a bit more dressing of the welds but credit for tackling this.
Thank you. It’s definitely not finish but it’s closer and better than it was for sure
@ I think you would have got a better finish on the welds if you had used a Tig and it would’ve planished better.👍
@neilwharton720 yes of course unfortunately we don’t have one of those. Nothing that can’t be cleaned back
