In piston cylinder arrangement suppose u have put some weight on piston... Due to reaction force of gases the weight will lift upward... Hence gases are doing some work. So piston cylinder arrangement is not free expansion

Because in free expansion boundary of the system changes rapidly means its change in state is not continous thats why it in not reversible and work transfer is possible for reversible process means integration of pdv is only possible for reversible process
work= force x displacement here the external force(pressure) is zero hence the work done is zero Note that this process is ideal and is not possible to demonstrate practically
