    The president’s $400,000 salary today would equal $400,000 in 2019 dollars.
    Math checks out.

      Freddie Mercury No, he has to receive the full $400,000 salary due to a statue in the US Constitution. However, he so far has donated his entire salary to a federal department or agency every quarter.
      People have asked why he didn’t give it to charity (as JFK and Herbert Hoover did) and he explained that the point was to not spend the taxpayers’ money on anything non-essential/not related to the job of the government and since he couldn’t legally forgo the money, at least he could put it towards a part of the government that needs it.

      Given some amount of 2019 dollars, if you Square it, followed by adding 1,600 dollars, then Quadruple the sum, afterword remove 6,400 dollars, then take the square root, and lastly half the total, most of the time you will get the correct answer in 2019 dollars.
      The math behind it:
      x --> x^2 --> x^2 + 1600 --> 4(x^2 + 1600) = 4(x^2) + 4(1600) = (2x)^2 + 6400 --> (2x)^2 --> |2x| --> |x|*
      By |x| I mean the positive version of x. The square root is always positive, even if the number squared beforehand. This is where the most of comes from.

    • @jeffbenton6183
      @jeffbenton6183 4 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Actually, its not. The central banks of the world like to keep inflation at exactly 2% per year. 2% inflation per year would be about 50% in 25 years. Why too much inflation is bad is obvious. Though I'd appreciate some deflation, there is actually good reason to prevent it. Basically if dollars were constantly getting more valuable, people would just hoard them and be terrified of spending. That would wreak the economy, so central banks like to have just enough inflation to not do that. For whatever reason they calculated that 2% was the ideal. Before the 70's the dollar was on the gold standard, so there was pretty much no inflation unless the gov't passed a law to exchange more dollars for gold.

    Question, how do you factor in that the current president does not take a salary?

    • @DJohnGrady
      @DJohnGrady 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically, he does "take" it, in the sense that it's paid out. But he doesn't put it in his pocket, rather donates it to charity.
      From a legal logistics standpoint (as in, there would actually have to be a constitutional amendment so Trump wouldn't have to collect his salary), it's just easier for him to take the money and then cut a check for the same amount as a donation - donating to a charity being more "useful" than just giving it back to the federal government.

    • @PH_INFO_101

      @@DJohnGrady Thanks for the response. I was kinda wondering if anyone would catch my mis-statment. That said, I guess it is a non-factor.

    • @DJohnGrady
      @DJohnGrady 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PH_INFO_101 Oh, sorry; didn't mean to imply I thought it was a mis-statement; I was just emphasizing that he still technically "gets paid". But, you're right, it's a non-factor.
      Personally I think it's better that there is a fixed salary that must be paid regardless of political shenanigans, otherwise "how much salary are you going to take" will be an additional stupid political thing to fight over.

      @@DJohnGrady I appreciate your response and I did not take any offense. The truth is, I was too lazy to type out the info that you took the time to. I appreciate your addition to my comment. That said, I believe there is a point of fact that of more importance. Barack & Michelle Obama entered the White House with a net worth of $1.3 million. Due to their minimal worth, Understandably, they decided to accept the presidential salary + perks. Here are some quick financial (Google) facts that blow my mind.
      8 years of salary (2009-2016) = $3.2 million
      3 years after leaving office Barack has a net worth of $49 million and Michelle has a net worth of $76 million for a combined net worth of $125 million
      I am not saying that the Obama's have done anything less than honorable in their financial endeavors. What I am saying, using the Obama model, "It is Good to be King"

    Hey, I've got an idea: Define all US government wages as percentages of the President's salary, so that the lowest-paid government job is 10% of the president's salary and the highest paid is the president themselves. Then, in order for Congress to get a raise, they just raise the President's salary and give all other government employees a raise, too.

    • @siddharthsrinivas6271
      @siddharthsrinivas6271 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think that would work. Congress would just make the presidents' salary a billion dollars.
