This is a perfect example of a composer nailing the music score for a project. This introduction is perfect for the mood of this game, Cyperpunk Secret agent ass kickery with the ever present air of mystery. You can almost see a mid 90's TV series of Deus ex opening using a shorter version of this theme in it's opening credits sequence.

It's hard to say how controversial augs are in DX, really. If I remember correctly, you see exactly two augmented civilians in the entire game - one is the ex-UNATCO bartender (so, a vet), and another is Walton Simons, who is not really a civilian.
So augs seem to be used mostly in a military or police context, and even then, sparingly - most UNATCO force isn't augmented, it's just the special agents. And even then, from emails, you find out that Gunther is not particularly happy about the kind of treatment that he gets on account of his mechanical augs; and Dr Reyes refers to augmentation as "a sacrifice". And here's part of an email that JC receives:
"In an effort to secure freedom and liberty for those under their protection, many UNATCO agents have chosen to sacrifice *social acceptance* for mission performance by surgically replacing limbs and organs with mechanically or electronically enhanced equivalents."
The aforementioned bartender, by the way, is also testy if you ask her about her augs, and quickly changes the topic.
Then there's the conversation between NSF troops that you overhear on the very first map, where they talk about Gunther:
"They'd've replaced his whole body if it would've improved performance. If that's how you judge a man - by performance - then eventually it's not about people but upgrades, versions, functionality... Soon as we buy into the cult of the machine we're just like them."
So it would seem that the only reason why augs are less blatantly controversial in DX, is because a random person on the street doesn't really see many. In fact, most of them probably see none. Public figures that use them in a prominent way, like Page, aren't exactly liked - "Now all I need’s a rifle, and then it’s just me and Satan… Yes, Satan… One last look into the devil’s red eyes". And for those who are strongly ideologically motivated, like NSF, there's clearly a similarly strong negative reaction to augs.

This isn't just 'included' in the PS2 version, it's actually the main theme. I bought the PS2 version at the time, over the PC. However, I'm now playing the latter as there are some differences. Far more bugs too, but I love how the whole level is open, the PS2 had levels sectioned off and loading screens. Plus the inventory system is much more detailed than the heads-up display of the console.

It definitely seemed that way during the Bush Administration, but ever since the Syrian Civil War and the subsequent refugee crisis, the world is turning strongly against globalization, and shifting more towards right wing nationalism. Just look at the difference between the popular support NAFTA had when it passed compared to the TPP. And of course the sorry state the EU is in after the Brexit vote.

slayerming1 Not really, since they were cut up into many different parts. Each part was significantly smaller, true, but if added all together, they would be a bit larger than the PC version. The other useful bit was that each time you change "zone", bit where it loads, which was everywhere, and then die, it loads back to the start of the "zone".

      EyeoftheU New verse from me!
      Though it is night-time,
      I'm wearing my sunglasses.
      Got half a dozen weapons,
It's time to kick some asses!
Should I use the GEP gun,
      Or the crossbow?
      It all depends
      On the kind of takedown!

I can't believe how good this game is. WHY AREN'T THERE MORE GAMES LIKE THIS?!
If first person shooters would have taken after this game, think of it! How many games today are lacking the basic advances this game included? Specific body part damage, negative effects that scaled up accordingly, toxins, skills, biomods, the different levels of them you could have and the way they interacted, weapon modifications, a great story and compelling philosophy and characters...WHY ISN'T THERE MORE?

Well, Steam has an option "Backup game content" (or something like that), I suppose it would let you to burn out the game to a CD, and install it on the other machine. (However I've never tried this option.)
The problem is that supposedly Steam will require to authenticate the game, after you install it, and that needs Internet access. This is the main problem with Steam - it can't live without Internet.
