Wow, this was my first time doing graded motor imagery and I was so surprised to experience sensations of dizziness just imagining the activity! The mind is so powerful. Definitely going to start doing this practice regularly.
Alyeska, so glad you gave this a try! It's one of the ways I help people "diagnose" neural circuit dizziness- if it is a prediction error as I discuss, then imagining a triggering activity will often bring on symptoms.
So I am having a hard time going outside for more than 5 mins at a time. I had suspected vestibular neuritis 11 months ago but now pppd I think. I did this and as soon as I imagined myself doing the task (I picked walking outside) my body did the same response as it does outside head pressure feel faint and then panic. When I did this exercise laying on my bed I also felt as though my hands and head were giant 😂not sure about that sensation but I noticed it and watched it. It was so hard but I’m going to keep doing this. I do the same with somatic tracking but new to this. I’m in shock that my body responded the same way! Wow! Any tips on getting better outside dr yo? I feel light headed and faint outside many thanks 🙏 *update I just did this a second time and wow the sensations were dialled down a lot! Thanks dr yo going to keep doing this daily❤

I hear you, it's not a great exercise to cram into 10 minutes! You might consider some of the newer somatic tracking exercises- I think the pacing is a lot better.
The sensations went sky high(they were high anyways, but neared full panic) is this ok and should I keep doing it? First time trying. Tricky! I might give it another try and see if you can get a little more distance from it. Imagine someone else doing it rather than you, and stay with that. You can even imagine that person being on a TV screen and really far away at first.

Not yet, it's on my to do list. It's highly individual- when someone is housebound and unable to live life in any kind of normal capacity, I like giving that person some structure with doing more of these exercises. But yes, overdoing it at the expense of not living normally or doing any kind of non-dizziness/fatigue related activities is not beneficial. Rule of thumb for people- 1-2x a day if able to engage in some kind of normal activities, maybe 3x if not able to. But this is totally individual.

Does this help BPPV?? I suffer daily with dizziness swaying feel like I’m on a ship. I make it like fast spins I wear glasses I have IBS I have Tmj I have sinus issues which is a deviated septum with bones bars on both sides. I have migraines, so don’t know if any of those are causing issues or what is going on. I know my ear is ringing a lot and everything looks fine. it all fine-fine.Idk why I have vertigo. I know that sucks. I also have arthritis in my neck. My neck does get flat out like today. It’s definitely cleared up to the weather issue, it does hurt they see it as well seeing any improvement and I’ve seen him for about 2 years now
Hi Ashley, from what you describe, your chronic symptoms are not BPPV. The more seemingly unrelated symptoms someone has, the more likely the cause is the nervous system being in danger mode. If it’s a nervous system sensitivity issue, this video will help.
For those of us without good hearing, the music was so loud it was hard to relax and follow the words. Decreasing sound of music, then there's a strain to hear words. Thanks.

Not from my perspective. The brain can adapt. But I think a lot of screen time is probably not healthy for us in general, so I would advise ANYONE, whether recovering from dizziness or not, to avoid extended use.

I just felt like I was not able to imagine it very well. But I did the whole thing and I do feel some relief. I just wondered if I am doing it right.
I get that. This kind of exercise will be less useful to you than some of the stress reduction techniques and emotional stuff I cover in the free course.

Kitchens can be a big trigger because of all the patterns and all the turning and bending over! Sometimes it also has stressful associations.

Hey Doc! My severe spinning symptom was dormant for about a year until today, since I can’t get out of bed, would you recommend this for now?

Do you think using a VR headset at all would be bad during recovery because it could mess with your brains interpretation of movement and position?

I get that! Some people can't visualize easily. You can look at pictures instead, or watch videos of people doing the activity.
