Mk wii is basically the smash bros melee of mario karts: lots of glitches that deepens the gameplay and make it more fun.

There's also this one incredibly broken and fun glitch that can only happen in online play. This glitch is however insanely rare. If someone with a Thundercloud bumps into you, you'll be given the Thundercloud's speed and acceleration and off-road boost, but you'll recieve the Thundercloud shortly after. Because of this, if a Thundercloud user bumps into you and then activates an invincibility item, you'll obtain the boost, but you won't obtain a Thundercloud, since it's been deleted by an invincibility item. If you are lucky enough, if this happens to you, you'll maintain all the Thundercloud boosts for the entire rest of the race. (As long as you don't obtain any other Thunderclouds.)

I'm SO glad someone else knows about the glitch letting you play as the same character! It's so easy to pull off that after playing hundreds of hours of the game, I just figured it out, and considering how useful it is, it's a surprise not many know about it.
I wish I knew about this glitch when I was younger. It would've been so cool.
Me and my cousin got it one time on accident we both always want Luigi and then we both got to play as him that one time and now I know how to replicate it

The non-US shortcuts are why, in part, this game still has an active online community today. Later games don't give you as much freedom, with 8 straight up removing all freedom.

We're not saying that, it's just that with not too much single player, playing the same tracks in the same way can be boring. With mkwii, there are more ways to play the same game, and that can be more fun.

@@chrisl.1170 There is literally aim correction steering in mario kart 8, to the point that if you try to cut certain lines on the track, or even to go towards certain short cuts from a slightly wrong angle, it will force you to slowly turn back towards the track, causing you to fall pretty far behind. It is actively hard to fall off any one of the stages, and it completely destroys any feeling of skill or satisfaction you might have gotten out of winning. In essence, its an absolute shit excuse of a racing game that is more heavily geared towards allowing actual toddlers to play the game than giving any sort of decent experience to people who have been fans of the series for years.

For those wondering... in terms of the current time trial TAS scene for this game, there are currently 30 tracks with glitches (of which 25 are faster in 3 lap runs).
Of those 30 tracks, 18 of them have the specific type of glitch known as an “ultra shortcut” which are time saving glitches that skip any number of the game’s key checkpoints (of these 18, only 16 of them save time in 3 lap runs).
Again, of the 30 tracks with glitches, 18 of them have a glitch known as “supergrinding” which is a version of rapid-fire hop abuse (using a change in slope and spamming hopping every other frame to lock the bike’s rotation) that aims to gain sideways momentum (of these 18, only 7 save time in 3 lap runs).
You may be wondering why some exist but don’t save time in 3lap runs. This is because we create fast lap runs which aim to finish one single lap as fast as possible instead of all three laps.
But what about RTA (real time attack)? Yes, there are real time speedruns of this game, mainly time trials as the full game speedrun is not as popular. Of these 30 tracks’ glitches; Rainbow Road and GCN Waluigi Stadium haven’t been pulled off, it is assumed that GBA Bowser Castle 3 and N64 Mario Raceway are never going to be pulled off to save time, any glitches that require RFHA (rapid-fire hop abuse) or supergrinding are humanly impossible without a modded controller or pause/home menu buffering (both of which are banned and counted as cheating).

Things I learned from this video:
-After the MG ultra, going extremely outside normal lines and shrooming past the tree is fine.
-The Maple Treeway shortcut was TASed: he gets a double trick on the ramp, lands into the shortcut by the tree (when it's usually the tent), and gets exactly a 1:23.000 as a lap.
-Hopping isn't needed for WGM.
-My lines for GV (ultra) and BC3 can be absolutely ridiculous and still allow for the completion of the shortcut.
-You can overshoot the BCWii shortcut
-It's possible to actually go straight into the pyramid after doing the DH cut
-Doing the DK Mountain glitch does not imply you do the shortcut right after.
-The rock hop in GV isn't a thing
-Doing a 1 second RR shortcut is better than mentioning the DKS double.
-Having a certain bike on SGB is an ultra shortcut in itself.

People are saying oh the memories. You still play mkwii today if you have a Wii or WiiU. There's this great mod pack called CTGP. It brings back online, and a a lot of other stuff. And it's still being updated. There's a really big community still.

Lmao if you think the magikruiser is broken on shy guy beach, you aren’t ready for sherbet land. Because the ice has an off-road stat due to the slipping and the magikruiser has a higher speed than normal on off-road, the magikruiser goes much faster than any other vehicle on that track. It’s basically an S-teir bike on sherbet land

I used a lot that shortcut in Rainbow Road, I really loved that course so much that it became my personal playground. If I had to win with certainty, that was the track to choose.

@@lukeallen7304 The broken shortcuts introduce more difficulty into the game. Things like the bowser's castle half-pipe shortcut bring in an entirely new dimension into the gameplay. It's not cheap, because imo if you can make that shortcut in a worldwide you deserve the reward

I'm not gonna lie, this stuff actually makes me like Mario Kart Wii even more. Its not a perfect game, but god was it fun. I still fully regret selling my wii when I got the switch, had I known the modern mario kart games were going to be as god awful as they are, I would have kept it around for some throwback racing with friends.

(What's the point of having lots of courses if they're not interesting to play) Also, the reason it has more followers is because it's the newest game on a current gen console so that's kind of a stupid argument ngl.
Evan Shanley mk8 and wii are almost the same when it comes to which game is better like in 8 the races are fair and in wii well a blue shell then red then bumped by a bullet bill and from 1st to 12th in seconds and the broken aspect of mkwii doesnt make it the best that is a flaw but mk wii is the best because of gameplay
Magikamek The item balancing isn’t as bad as people say it is when you learn how to avoid stuff. Sure, there’s lots of blue shells but not as many as in mk7. The red shells in MKWii are actually kinda stupid and you can often avoid them by driving near a wall and bullet bills you can avoid by using your rear view mirror. Also I can see why you think the game being broken is a flaw, but most of the glitches he showed in this video are banned online anyway, and there are lots of smaller shortcuts he didn’t show in this video that make races more fun but aren’t overpowered. Most of the time in MK8 if you fall behind then it will be really hard to catch up and if you’re front running than you’ll most likely stay ahead the whole race.
@@DannyMeasho999 Generally speaking, playing MKWii on CTGP is the best Mario Kart experience you can have.
You get over 200 tracks (compared to MK8's 48). You can play all 200+ tracks online. You get more gamemodes (Item Rain, Countdown, 24 player, 200cc). You can customize the music, hud and textures. The game has better controls. There's better time trial leaderboards with different sections for regular runs, shortcut runs and glitch runs. There's more online features. There's so many optional tweaks you can mess around with, like Thunderclouds giving you the Mega Mushroom effect instead of shrinking you. It makes MKWii substantially better.
Graphics are not everything. If I had the choice between playing a game that is fun and a game that is pretty, I'll always pick the game that is more fun. Whenever MK8 gets replaced with a shinier, prettier MK9, I doubt many people will even play it anymore. Because unless you only ever play Battle Mode in Deluxe, it's just the game with fancy graphics and nothing else.

I also noticed, after you played Time Trials, the heads in the mini map are bigger. Also, team VS is completly imbalanced. You just need a last placed racer and he can spam lightning and POW blocks while the other 5 team members are already in the top 5 places. Also, not sure if this counts as broken but the blue shell is a bit too common for such an powerful item.
But I still love this game. Heck, I enjoyed this game way more than Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. This game has still a place in my heart.

the irony is that it could easily be fixed by making it so players have to go through a series of invisible checkpoints to count as a lap
There are, its just that they are terribly placed. That's why they have to go around alot of things instead of just backing up
Besides, the ultra-shortcuts have now been patched online, so doing them will no longer count the lap (this is on Wiimmfi).

Things that you didn't get:
1. The ultra Koopa Cape Shortcut
2. The box cut glitch on Toad's Factory
3. On Mushroom Gorge if you go off the ramp in the mushroom cave and use a bullet before landing on a mushroom, you become immune to offroad
4. If you go into time trials and then to a normal race (whether regular or online) all the heads on the minimap will be HUGE
5. The ultra Shy Guy Beach shortcut

This is one of the biggest reasons Mario Kart Wii is one of the best games if not the best. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe just isn't on the same level as MKWII

@@DannyMeasho999 Never said I hated MK8. The roster consists of mostly those bowser kids though lmao. Plus of course MK8 has a bigger following its a newer game on a current gen console. MKWII modded also has hundreds more tracks than MK8 but again, general player will never play MKWII fun. At the end of the day though this is my opinion not pure fact just preference.
@@DannyMeasho999 Mkwii fans don't hate the newer games and the reason mk8dx has a bigger following is because it's the newest game in the series and like Ian said, on a current gen console. The reason mkwii still has the community that it does is mostly because of 2 reasons. 1. Inside drift and wheelies make the game more fun to control. 2. There are tons of interesting shortcuts that make races more interesting and ur able to catch up easier while when ur playing mk8 in competitive play, if u fall behind then you'll most likely stay behind for most most of the race. Look, if u prefer having better graphics and 16 more courses that's ok but I feel like u can't say if one is objectively better than the other.
