looked for ages barry it was the nicest one i could find anywhere in the world found it in Europe was part of a private collection and imported to NZ paid way too much for it but what the hell I love having it in the garage! :)
I had one of these. Bought it from an airline pilot, only 4 months old. Boy was it quick, and so damned light to flick. Although very dated looks now but I still love it so much
Its looks are "of its time" the reason Suzuki styled them like this, was because the 1983 GS1000R/ XR41 factory race bike ( especially the later alloy framed model) that Suzuki had used to win the World Endurance Championship was styled very similar. The 85 GSX-R 750 and its big brother the 86 1100, were very faithfully to the styling of the racebike. Heres the factory race bike, you can see the similarity to the road bikes. www.motorcyclistonline.com/25-years-gsx-rs-race-bred/
seriously. that is a bike to be well proud of. i have a 1100 wv and your bike outshines it in almost every department. what went wrong i ask myself, perhaps it was the transition to watercooled engines. but at least suzuki got back on track with the gsxr 1000.
they had no choice but to go water cooling... it was impossible to get beyond 100hp reliably with air oil cooling methods!! I ride the Bandit air oil cooled engine and i know what its like to be underpowered!
The first time riding a GSX-R, I pulled into a parking lot at the same time a guy that just bought the bike with 40 miles on it. I had my little brother with me driving my car at 15 without a license. I didn't ask but I was drooling and he said: " go ahead, not like your going leave your car and brother". long story short, I bet he never did that again.
Stunning example of the marque. Makes me smile. I'm in the process of restoring my '86 Blue/White G as I type this. Interesting you have Mitchy PR3 rubber on it. I can see where they supply 18" PR3's.
I hope you still keep it :) A waste if someone just consume it up. When I listen to its clean acceleration at 2:05 I realize my 750 needs a thorough checkup :). Thanks for sharing this.
A stock air box, have not seen one of those since 1986. This is truly a stock original survivor. The stock exhaust weighed a ton, almost 30 pounds on these, but made them so quiet you could do 140 mph and no one could hear you ripping down the road. All you could hear of them was the wind ripping across the fairings as they went by. I bet it's still got that sweet smell of break in oil lube from the factory, when you warm up the engine ?
I have an identical model and have a dilemma which you could help me with. I purchased the bike from Switzerland which had strict emission laws back in the 80ls. So much so that they reduced the power on the 1100. I am working on recovering the full power of my bike and would ask if you can do me a favour. On your bike can you look down inside the end of the exhaust and tell me if you can see a restrictors plate as in the picture I have provided. My bike has a plate welded inside from the manufacturer.. I would really appreciate if you can confirm your bike does not have this modification..many thanks for your help..
+pamtimnz Check out my channel. I haven't got around to making a walkaround. I have plenty of videos of my 98 SRAD though. She's in almost as good of shape as yours, and I ride her every day of the year.
Oh my God I had one years ago that was so clean it was just ridiculous highly modified but it was clean and I had a 7-Eleven and ahead another 750 citrol same here I had a little accident on my 750 and my girlfriend made me get rid of all of them then she dumped me about 2 months later
who would roll only 1500 with such a amazing machine. i could buy a much newer gsxr1100 but why? they dont look or feel the same. My friends in used to call my 86 1100 "Dinosaur" & Flexi-flyer back in 1998! I'm getting a 87 this weekend & cant wait.
Hi Tim & Pam... this is exactly like my Dads 86 GSX-R 1100... my Dad let me drive it when i was 15 down the highway.. i accellerated it up to 120 mph... and it was super balanced and was like 120 was nothing and could do 200 easily.. it was soooooo much fun!! so i saw a gsxr 1100 on craigslist listed as a 1984 gsxr1100... so I called to see it and saw it.. it was instead a 1986 gsxr 1100 same color scheme as yours... i wasn't expecting to somehow end up with the first motorcycle i ever rode in my life... but as luck would have it I have this exact bike my vin serial number ends in 1001066 .. the 1066th made... and yours?
1500 miles? How do you get the will power not to ride it? I just bought a 91 zx11 in excellent condition which I would like to preserve, but I have to ride every day so I'm putting 1000 miles a month on it. Can't help myself. My last bike was a 1990 gsxr750 which I bought new in 1990.
I bought this model new in 1986. I wanted this colour but the company went bankrupt, so i got the only bike they had left which was the blue version. I drove it all over Europe.
@@timnz1970 Ahh ok, in the Suzuki parts fiche it shows the the Swiss model having a single rectangle headlight, due to Swiss regulations at the time not allowing duel headlights, Swiss market Honda RC30s have a similar set up. It looks odd to say the least and i bet more than a few Swiss owners bought the correct top fairing with the dual headlights. My own 86 GSX-R1100 is 99% back together after a full strip and refurbish, just trying to find an original exhaust for it, there used to be quite a few in wreakers around NZ 15 years or so back, but the with the wreakers advertising on the internet they all went overseas. Anyway awesome bike. cheers from Taranaki :-))
@@uhtred7860 nice yeah this one was delivered new with the twin lights not sure what the story was but looked for years never seen a better ‘86 1100 anywhere tbh. Bought a spare NOS exhaust in Europe a few years back it’s in the attic somewhere…wasn’t cheap like +$2000 if I recall :(
Hi thanks for the interest. Wasnt planning to sell but I guess everything is at the right price. Hi, superb bike - congratulations! I've bought an identical GSX R 1100 (GU 74 C - same color combination) this spring, also completely factory original with documented 5806 km. Question: Do you have rubber (end)caps fitted to the steeltubes on the inner part of the fairing ahead of the mirrors? Take care and a troublefree ride with this classic bike! JM
I have a 1986 gsxr myself and am in the process of rebuilding it right now. I have tons of parts some I will be using some I am not. Love this bike....Same as my first one, sold it and bought another one off a friend two days later. I am looking for a stock exhaust anyone got one? Dave
@Mightymopars1 hey JM nice one can you put up a clip if yours!! Would love to see it!!! Would you sell?? Found any New Old Stock spares I've been hunting for plastics just in case. Yes just looked at mine it has the rubber caps they seem to be pushed right inside the metal tube. Have fun with yours don't forget to let us all see it there's not many survivors left on the planet!!! Cheers

One of my all time favorite bikes. What a gorgeous example.

Magnificent !
Superb, I had one back in the day and wish i still had it now,
Buy one
This is the bike that saved Suzuki!
about 20 years ago now i had one looking for another loved it
This bike turns more heads on the street than a Ducati Panigale.
It's does Sebastian I've got an 899 & love it but nowhere near as special as this old girl!! :)
much nicer then a ducati or any other racer out there.
My friend had a panigale and he turns more heads now in his transit van.
