  • In this 1995 interview, famed neurologist and author Oliver Sacks talks about the perils of profiling people, his friendship with Robin Williams (who played him in the film "Awakenings"), his wariness of technology, an island where 10% of the population can't see color, and his wonder over our "unimaginably complex and beautiful" brains.

      It's fascinating a coincidence that both were born and deceased in the same months, respectively.

    So sad that two of my favorite people are now gone, Oliver Sacks and Robin Williams.

    These two men made a huge impression on me in my earlier years. Oliver Sacks is so interested in the people and I thought that was great. So to with Charlie Rose and the idea of sitting down and really talking to other people about the world.

    Robin Williams was Dr. Sacks and Dr. Sacks was Robin Williams. They were, just like he said, so similiar but complementary creatures. They looked alike, they moved alike. It's so amazing.

    If Oliver wasn't so brilliant, I would have turned this interview off in the first few seconds because of Charlie Rose's constant ignorant interruption...

    I generally love Charlie Rose, but he spoke far too much in this interview. Especially with someone like Oliver Sacks who is a voracious writer, you really just need to sit back and let him talk.

      I used to love Charlie rose then I watched him interview the author of Angela's Ashes. I didn't want to watch him after that and I never read the book.

    Such a strange coincidence.... just the other day I was saying to my wife that Sacks looked like Robin Williams, then this comes up. Weird. Sacks is a great author; I just finished Hallucinations, and am working on Musicophilia. Like it a lot.

    Oliver was able to get an ordinary Joe such as I to get interested in his work. That's quite a feat. His books are not only interesting to read, they are very beautiful, full of humanity, always an uplifting experience. I'm reading 'The Man Who Mistook his Wife for a Hat', at the moment and it's sheer joy.

    Well, Charlie Rose had a rather ignoble end to a persistently annoying career, justifiably so.
    BTW, real big fan of Oliver Sacks and this was an especially egregious interview.

    Interviewer, shut up and let Dr. Sacks talk.

  • @kariwattsup
    @kariwattsup 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yeah... Really interesting the many similarities between he and Robin. Robin was not completely of this earth. That's probably why he spaced himself from Robin for a while. It seems as if Mork was already like this man. It's quite uncanny. 💚

    Charlie Rose the Interrupter, the worst interviewer ever who always somehow booked the best guests. Why Rose needs to say anything during this interview is beyond me. Just let the great man talk.

      Ruben Toco - It's said that he was an extremely high-functioning autist... a multi-talented genius, really; enormously accomplished in a number of different fields--though like many such individuals somewhat socially awkward. People like that are often hard for most people to fully relate to or appreciate.
