    People can say what they want, but this kind of quality in character development and world creation in gaming is rare. The attention to detail, even producing a realistic launch video is impressive. Anyone else think bungie ought to bring back the space flight simulator? How about a whole game in which UNSC forces and your character battle it out in zero gravity with ships like these?

    This entire launch sequence is a reference to the Space Shuttles used by NASA - including the camera sequences that focus on the booster rockets' separation. NASA actually used this method to monitor for any potential damages to the booster rockets or the external fuel tank (the latter of which was responsible for the tragic Challenger disaster).

    • @ENCHANTMEN_
      @ENCHANTMEN_ ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sadly it misses the gravity turn and circularization burn, although that's probably just because it's using movie logic and misunderstandings about orbits.
      IRL rockets pitch over fairly quickly and then proceed to spend most of the launch burning sideways to build up lateral speed. You need to go sideways crazy fast to get into orbit, otherwise you'll fall back down again

    • @Willard_guy
      @Willard_guy 10 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Well it makes since as they are cheep and burn up in reentry why use something that cost more to achieve the same thing but is only used once.

    • @haloceman4
      @haloceman4 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Willard well let me give you an example, multi stage chemical rockets are only used once as you said, that means the unsc need to replace the system every single time, in the long run that would end up costing the unsc more money, if they were to use antimatter system instead of the multi stage chemical system they could do launch after launch without the need to replace the system

    • @Gaz-P
      @Gaz-P 10 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      ***** that may be true, but you should also take into account that the Sabre was still in the experimental stages during the Fall of Reach, and that the broadsword fighters in Halo 4 were the successors of the Sabre, with it having a newer and efficient system than the Sabre. But even then, it was still an experiment so they could have changed anything during that time.
      But you still make a good point. I just thought I should've pointed out those facts.

    • @haloceman4

    This cutscene shows just how hard it is to actually get into orbit realistically. Too often this franchise seems to take that for granted.

    • @zamfir2005
      @zamfir2005 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      It actually doesn't. But you do have a point, it's still better than just *poof* spacecraft into stable orbit. It's just that, there's still a few more steps to cover. By only taking into account what is shown in the cutscene, the ship right now should be on a sub-orbital path, basically it has escaped the atmosphere but at this stage it will be pulled back down. You'd need a scene with a prograde burn (to reach a stable orbit) then a trajectory alignment (to arrive at the station).

    I truly love this scene in halo.
    I also know a lot of people are asking why the Sabres have rocket boosters instead of the drives of other ships.
    Bear in mind most small human ships in the UNSC by this point in the history of halo; lack jump drives. This means that they need to piggyback another ship or board a carrier to jump. The power source needed to power a jump drive is huge; in the art book the drive powering the smaller frigates is at least the size of a small apartment complex. This means that humans have yet to perfect ground space launches like those of craft you see in Halo Wars. It's not until Halo 2 that these launches are improved; but it's not until well after the first halo event they are perfected.
    Plus in Halo Wars the Spirit of Fire can provide support from stratosphere altitudes; which allows small craft to easily return to the ship without launch systems for orbital trajectory.
    Halo 4 and 5 basically show what humanity could have had in reach if ONI wasn't a bunch of secrets keeping A**holes. Halo Wars summed up to me how stupid ONI was in one phrase
    "Their shields are vulnerable to highly concentrated plasma weapons" -Professor Anders (aka an ONI research officer)
    Which basically sums up ONI wasted millions upon millions of human lives because they wouldn't build plasma guns of their own; which they are very capable of

    • @brwigames7498
      @brwigames7498 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      ONI keeping secrets is kind of an necessary evil tho, cuz they have knowlege of some things that would make everyone crazy such as the truth about the humans and forerunners, the Flood/Precursors and Spartan-II program. If it wasn't for the spartans they wouldn't win the war and if it wasn't for the knowlege about the forerunners they wouldn't know much about the ark, the halo rings and whatnot. If they let out those info they might've make everyone want to shut them down which would make them not know about really important things in the first place

    • @starlightdragon2665
      @starlightdragon2665 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brwigames7498 I can understand keeping necessary secrets; I really do. But we arent talking about the forerunners and the flood. Those can stay secret until needed; the UNSC was fighting the covenant then and there and the Covenant was destroying man.
      Until the Spartans (who bear in mind in fall of reach were originally meant to fight other humans) showed up and made a difference; the best hope humans had of stopping the covenant was to barrage covenant ships with archer missiles until the shields went down and then hit them with MAC cannon rounds until they stopped moving; and MAC cannons didn't reload quickly, they took at least 15 to 30 seconds to fully charge and reload.
      This mean human ships that had no protection against covenant weapons were vulnerable to attack until the shields dropped and MAC rounds could be fired. This means the covenant ships were untouchable until shields dropped and any mistimed MAC firing would doom several ships.
      If ONI had divulged the covenant weaknesses the UNSC navy would have had a chance of stopping the covenant from launching the ground war campaigns that bring human colonies to their knees and killed millions.
      That secret alone is not worth keeping because it literally nearly brought humanity to death. Spartans or not; the only good Spartans can do is win the ground war, the UNSC navy is the only thing standing between the vulnerable human ground forces and the covenant space fleets. Reach; the most heavily defended human planet before earth; was infiltrated, destroyed and wiped out without a fair fight; and ONI didn't do a thing to slow their advance while the covenant were inside their base.
      Yes keep secrets about the forerunners and flood; I get that, but the very least tell people about the covenant so they can win or at least stand a fair chance.

    • @shcdemolisher
      @shcdemolisher ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I always feel that after the war, realistically speaking, ONI would get shut down and rebuilt with a much better focus and less secret keeping because that nearly killed humanity. Can’t take that chance again, EVER!

Same goes for whatever the hell the thing on its back is. Also the side booster nozzles are angled for no reason... Basically a sleeker, passenger fairing version of the space shuttle. And even launches in kinda the same way. Using three large booster that attach to the back and bottom of the craft. And remotely pilot themselves back to earth after use, kinda like how spacex does it. And I’m sure how the UNSC does as well

      De Wijswolf Just because technology has advanced doesn't mean gravity is any different from what it is now. Now I'd like to make a *really bad, probably* animation of what it should look like in Blender...

      Jason Glantz Orbital mechanics. They aren't "floating". Satellites stay up because they are actually constantly falling, but they are moving sideways so fast that they "miss" the Earth. Basically, for a satellite in a 200km orbit, it travels about 8 km/s sideways, and still only experiences slightly less than 9.5 m/s/s of gravity. By the time it falls, say, 30m, it has moved sideways far enough for the Earth to have curved away from it by 30m.

    @helljumpr5150 What you wrote reminds me of a sentence, only spelled badly and with the wrong words.

    @helljumpr5150 ...and using the word 'remains' instead of 'reminds'.
