At 20:49.. It is the heavier plate that subsides not the lighter plate.. (Note: Oceanic plate is made of basalt and is heavier than the Continental plate which is made of Granite) In convergent plate tectonics, we have 3 cases : Case 1. Ocean Plate- Continent plate convergence : Here the Oceanic plate being heavier subsides beneath the continental plate. The subducted part of the oceanic plate goes into the asthenosphere and due to high heat in the asthenosphere, the oceanic plate melts and its volume increases( density decreases), thereby due to high volume and low density, the magma comes out of the earth's crust from fissures forming island arcs. Trenches are also formed at the point(all along the oceanic and continential plate convergence) where oceanic plate subsides beneath the continental plate. Eg: The Nazca (and, to a lesser extent, Antarctic) plate subducting under the South American Plate, meanwhile, uplifted the Andes and peppered that towering range with volcanoes. Case 2. Oceanic plate- Oceanic plate convergence : Both plates being heavier ( made of basalt) will push each other, but the heaviest plate will subside forming island arcs and trenches as explained above. An example of an oceanic/oceanic convergent boundary is that between the Pacific and Mariana plates, which includes the Mariana Islands arc and a subduction zone encompassing the Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the World Ocean. Case 3: Continental plate- Continental plate convergence: As both plates being lighter( made of granite), none will subside. Both will push against each other, and as none subsides, they will result into fold mountains. ( Jab koi plate niche ni ja skti ek dusre ke against push karke, to common sense kehta hai wo upar ko fold hojayengi) eg: The classic example of a continental/continental convergent boundary is the rumpled overlap where the Indian Plate drives into the Eurasian Plate, a tectonic collision that has thrown up the greatest mountains in the world - the Himalayas - as well as the vast, high Tibetan Plateau. To the west, the Alps grew in similar fashion via the collision of the African and Eurasian plates. Thank you so much for this lecture sir but I have one concern that you taught( 6:46) the ocean trench are formed due to two continental plates move away from each other, But sir I have studied that ocean trenches are formed due plate convergent (subduction zone) . I request to you please give clarification about the concert.
The explanation that starts at 20:45 for convergent boundary is completely wrong. It is always the heavier plate which subducts due to its own huge weight. When Ocean-Continent plate collide, it is always the Ocean plate which sub-ducts and Volcanic Mountains are formed, when Ocean-Ocean plate collides the plate which is larger in length/size will subduct, and Island Arc will be formed. However when a Continental -Continental plate converges, there is no subduction rather they climb over each other and Fold mountains are formed, since there is no subduction occurring here, there will be no Volcanism phenomena in this area. Example Himalayas. Please note that TRENCHES are formed on CONVERGENT boundary(falling/down limb of Convection Current) only, that too only in the two cases of Ocean-Ocean and Ocean-Continent plates, because subduction occurs for only these two cases. RIDGES are formed when the DIVERGENT boundary(rising limb of Convection Current) is under Ocean plate. RIFT is formed when the DIVERGENT boundary(rising limb of Convection Current) is under Continental Crust. This RIFT then transform into NASCENT SEA and finally transformed into OCEAN.

@@akshitgupta442 Trenches are formed by subduction, a geophysical process in which two or more of Earth's tectonic plates converge and the older, denser plate is pushed beneath the lighter plate and deep into the mantle, causing the seafloor and outermost crust (the lithosphere) to bend and form a steep, V-shaped depression.
Yeah.. i was also thinking about it.. it is formed due to convergence only..
A brilliant effort to simplify some very complex concepts of geography that too in a very short time. Keep up the good work ! Throughly enjoyed the tutorials sir :)
clear and specific to the point explanation. Thanks!
Great job ! .. impressive nd easy to understand
Sir u teach in such a good manner. It helps us alot. Just one correction is needed in this video, Trench formed when two place collide with each other not move apart. One plate subducted and another moves upwars there Trench is formed. It is also known as Expression of subduction.
Source. Plate tectonic book of Condie.
Rest video is 👌
The explanation is beyond amazing actually. You make a difficult and a rather dull subject like Geography come alive!
Excuse me sir, could you elaborate on Transform Boundaries and the mention of rotation of earth in the section. Especially the last two lines of the paragraph of Transform Boundaries.
Thank you.

And if the plates are only move, then as the location of india and Australia in gondwana land, then how india was moved far away from Australia as they are situated in same plate..! please ans me if i am forgot something...
Sir the post drift theory was given by Harry Hess or Arthur homes? Since Arthur was the one who had figured out the convection current theory first.
Thank you so much sir.. am really feeling blessed that i have found this playlist 🙏😇
There is nothing in this video.. except your beautiful voice and good picture quality
Thank you so much sir. Your videos really helps understanding the difficult topics in geography with ease...
Thanks for the amazing series. A small amendment at 6:45 trenches are formed when plate boundaries converge, let me know if I got it wrong.
