I'm a fan of both PRRD and PBBM. I voted for them. I think Duterte just opened up the eyes of both America and the Philippines, that if you rely on this communist country called China, it will be a disaster for democratic countries like them. U.S. benefited by pouring in trillions of dollars to China due to its cheap labor, even at the cost of some of its long time allies like the Philippines. Remember what Obama did when the Chinese started building islands in West Philippine Sea? He did nothing because he's scared of China. That's why Duterte cursed him.

I actually casted my vote for the opposing candidate, anticipating disappointment with President Bongbong Marcos, particularly given his family's history of corruption. I assumed he would align with China, largely due to his friendship with former President Duterte, who was known for his pro-Chinese stance. However, I was proven wrong. When it comes to diplomatic relations, I commend our President's strategic move to pivot towards the United States instead. Nevertheless, in other areas such as addressing corruption - especially in light of his family's past - and fostering economic growth, I have yet to observe any tangible improvements or positive developments.

Based on Duterte's approval trust rating, I think Filipinos understand more global politics. China even built military bases in disputed islands. Philippines should armed and trained to stop this bullies...
China does not really want peace in WPS. They keep telling lines of communication etcetera, only talk, no sincere action. But what is important to them is to grab the islands belong to the Philippines. That is all there is. If Philippines will just allow a US base close to WPS or allow US carriers to sail over there, at least China will have a second thought of bullying Philippines in that area.

China's unabated belligerent even with Duterte's friendship stand means only one thing, we are better off with the US and china cannot be trusted. The chinese missed the opportunity to lured PH to their cause because of their greed. Duterte was the best leader that they can get and yet they failed him big time, well at least we tried and only china is to blame for this failures. from what I notice, Duterte didn't like US because of weapon sale is limited. US even hold purchase of m4 rifles which is badly needed by the armed forces.
I would be very wary of the sincerity of the Philippines in wanting to have a real defensive alliance with the US. I would also question the wisdom in basing US military assets so close to a hostile adversary who has long-range missiles and a large modern navy.

The Philippines has one of the largest oil and gas reserves in it's territorial waters and EEZ. That's what China is after. Which is why the US also has access to a Philippine base nearest to the South China Sea and West Philippine Sea, not just Taiwan.

Duterte eventually realized his mistake in cutting off ties with the US and Marcos saw that. Plus the Filipinos always had always favorable outlook on the US, but not with bully China.

I would take Marcos Jr's calibrated foreign and defense policies over 6 years of Duterte's simping to Beijing. So far this is Marcos Jr's best move in his term.

I assumed he would align with China, largely due to his friendship with former President Duterte, who was known for his pro-Chinese stance. However, I was proven wrong. When it comes to diplomatic relations, I commend our President's strategic move to pivot towards the United States instead. Nevertheless, in other areas such as addressing corruption - especially in light of his family's past - and fostering economic growth, I have yet to observe any tangible improvements or positive developments.

Ukraine and the Philippines are very different, do not put them in the same context when the Philippines is literally protected and obligated to the Mutual Defense Treaty of 1951, Ukraine doesn't have it despite having the Budapest Memorandum. This treaty we have with the US is overtly stating that the US and the Philippines are OBLIGATED and REQUIRED to defend each other under Article 51 of the UN Charter for collective self-defense.

Yes to EDCA with SCREENING, like what Duterte and our SUPREME COURT demanded, The 2014 EDCA needs to be amended as all weapons in that agreement, only need notifying the Philippine Government, but not approval. EDCA must be revised that ALL US weapons must be screened, each weapon must get approval from the Philippine Govt and all weapon must be accessible to Filipino soldiers. So at least, we can avoid not being a pawn or at least avoid targeted by more powerful missiles of China.

Based on Duterte's approval trust rating, I think Filipinos understand more global politics. In comparison to Aquino's pro US foreign policy, there was a dire need to re-calibrated our foreign policy, such as to be friendly with China, to prepare us in this beginning of the multi-polar world. Even moreso, its also evident that they practically abandoned neutrality when Finland and Sweden joined the EU in 1995 and opted in for the Common Currency Area and joined and heavily participated in NATO through the Partnership for Peace program. Still then, they were cautious on the diplomatic concert over Yeltsin's Russia and soon Putin and Medvedev and then Putin again.
Of course, they did not react in Crimea back in 2014 but it still alarmed both Sweden and Finland and had them ramped up military productivity and participated either as observers or active participants in NATO exercises or exercises made unilaterally by NATO member states. Its evidently yet tacitly or implicitly shown who was the opposing force (its not Sweden or NATO) during the Täistelukentää/Battlefield 2020 expo video made by the Finnish Defence Forces (its on TH-cam)

- joint patrol with the US and other ASEAN countries such as Vietnam and Singapore.

from what I notice, Duterte didn't like US because of weapon sale is limited. US even hold purchase of m4 rifles which is badly needed by the armed forces.
US and Philippines are like brothers even after not seeing each other that much, yet still maintain a close bond. Lol
I would be very wary of the sincerity of the Philippines in wanting to have a real defensive alliance with the US. I would also question the wisdom in basing US military assets so close to a hostile adversary who has long-range missiles and a large modern navy.

The Philippines has one of the largest oil and gas reserves in it's territorial waters and EEZ. That's what China is after. Which is why the US also has access to a Philippine base nearest to the South China Sea and West Philippine Sea, not just Taiwan.
