My dad used to have a book filled with Edgar Allan Poe story's and he'd read them for me and my little sister as a bedtime story when we were little, this one was my favorite.
This is by far my favorite, I love this narrator's voice! You both captured both his peaceful and evil side in one voice so perfect for this... THIS IS GREAT!!!
Excellent, talented, reading, worthy of Poe's short story masterpiece. BTW, imo one of the many reasons it is a masterpiece is that it is not really about alcoholism. The narrator turns to alcohol *because* of what he is, not the other way around.
gnikcohs, in the transition from loving his Wife and pets, Poe writes about an intemperance. Then says, I blush to admit it, thus he becomes moody, etcetera etcetera etcetera and further intoxications from visiting one of his haunts... Of course, the entire story is about the black cat being a witch and not him at all really lol.
Poe drew a little inspiration for this story from his own cat, named Catterina. She sometimes chased his pen when he wrote, ate out of his hand and slept with his wife when she was dying. It's nice to think of the Poes somewhere together in a cozy house with cats and no more earthly troubles.
Aww, I used to have a black cat named Mimi, she was the sweetest thing ever, she was alway's playful, she purr's literally every second, once she see's you she won't leave you alone, she love's attention and she was "super duper KAWAII"
The most terrifying poe story. Beautiful in its naively narrated sentimentality. The tickling of my psychological awe and horror only reflects the shit of modern horror storytelling. Noone can touch Poe in breadths and depths of the torture of the human existential soul.
Loved the narrator's voice who made Poe's story so intriguing. Poe is the greatest writer ever and I love all his writings. He has a love affair with words.
i love black kitties cant wait too hear what this is about.. (listens to story) omg...the kitties...eye...y-you..how...why...kitty ;-;... (goes to corner and holds itself)
+MangaAlex Creator666 We are sorry for your loss. If it's any consolation to you, the cat appears to be unaffected by circumstances on this mortal coil. ;)
for those of you who have to take notes on this for an assignment (like me) here are my notes. they might not be completely right but this is kind of what I understand from listening to this “ i will unburden my soul” Liked to feed and caring for the animals Married early Him and his wife had birds, gold fish, a dog, rabbits, a small monkey, and a black cat Cat was called pluto His personality started to change he became more moody irritable, yelled and hit his wife Started to mistreat his animals except pluto One day he got drunk and pluto bit him, got very mad Cut the cats eye out Got upset and even more drunk after that Saying how he wants to violate the law because it is a law Hung the cat because it loved him and because it had done nothing wrong Woke up to find his house was set on fire One wall in his house was still intact and on the wall hung the cat with the rope still around its neck But the cat was originally hung in the garden Then got another cat that looks similar to the black cat Started to hate that cat The new cat was also missing an eye Cant sleep at night anymore Starts to hate all life its self The tripped hi on accident, he got really mad, took the axe and tried to kill the cat, but the wife stopped his hand , got even more mad and swung the axe into her head Hid the body Hid her in the cellar walls Slept great after the cat somehow disappeared and killed his wife The death of his wife barely affected him, he just shurgged it off The guy was boasting to the police as they were on their way out about how well made the house and the walls are and how sturdy they were Started to hear howling coming from the place he hid her The police heard it too and started to take apart the wall The body flopped out Finds out he hid the cat with the body and thats what was making the noise.
A decent story, never a truer saying than "you reap what you sow" thats why hes called the grim reaper in the first place coz hes reaping the seeds you have sown throughout life
Only a true animal lover could write this paragraph." To those who have cherished an affection for a faithful and sagacious dog, I need hardly be at the trouble of explaining the nature or the intensity of the gratification thus derivable. There is something in the unselfish and self-sacrificing love of a brute, which goes directly to the heart of him who has had frequent occasion to test the paltry friendship and gossamer fidelity of mere Man."
If only more people had the taste to listen to CTFDN's wonderfully narrated stories. I share with all I know and point those peculiar fans of horror and narrated stories to your channel if only to expand your popularity so that your amazing works may bring entertainment, paranoia, and fear that they so seek. I do this so maybe they will feel the same chill and sleepless nights that I enjoy.

I'm sure you hear this a billion times a day, but your voice is so beautiful, so intriguing, you are definitely one of my favorite narrators, if not my most favorite. Thank you for sharing it. I can't wait to hear more.

@@kathrynmyrick1739 ah. I see. Edgar was on some "Araki actually loves dogs, so he kills them in JJBA to show how awful the villains are" way of thinking.
Only an animal lover could write this paragraph from the story. Poe loved animals. Bravo. I'm not even a cat person, I dislike the vast majority of cats and I'm the only person I know who doesn't go gaga for all the videos, I'd rather be watching dachshunds... but this still broke my heart into little pieces. No animal deserves such treatment. It hits even harder after having recently watched a documentary about the crimes of Luka Magnotta.
Very close, but in this case there actually WAS a supernatural element. TTTH was about the narrator's own guilt driving him mad, and that narrator forgave himself, not understanding his own madness. Black Cat is about a more self-aware and sane person tormented by his own descent into evil actions, and outed by a cat who may or may not have been a witch.
Gaming Bitchface This story is also something of a skewering of Alchoholic’s Anonymous and it’s emphasis on the abstinence of alcohol, The narrator is an alcoholic as Poe himself was.
nshanahan13 True, although both narrators have a sense of bravado in their actions, compare the narrator of The Tell-Tale Heart arrogantly putting his chair right over his victim under the floor planks and the narrator in The Black Cat smugly in a moment of misplaced triumph rapping his cane on the bricked up niche containing the corpse of his murdered wife.
@nshanahan13 Actually I wrote an essay about the Tell-Tale Heart in which I explained just how similar the stories are: both narrators try to convince us that they are not mad in the beginning of the story, both stories involve one of the eyes of the victims of the situation, both stories involve a way that their deed came back to haunt them. Also in the Tell-Tale Heart, the character NEVER felt guilt.
My cat ran away Wednesday, and the stress has been making me hallucinate, last night I heard loud meowing in my ears for an hour, it freaked me out, I have an appointment with my therapist Tuesday so hopefully he can help.
Ive heard this tale many, many times. But this was the first time I realized his explanation of the cat shaped burn. That maybe some one threw the dead, lynched, cat into his window to wake him. Huh, ya, that checks out.?

Not the sort of story you expect to read to kids before bed but ok… I suppose it’s not as bad as some of the original versions of fairytales.
This comment gave me the confidence to read my son his stories, when he is a bit older. He is still fresh out the oven

Yes! It’s important to note that he cut out the cat’s eye when he was drunk, but he was sober when he did every other violent act in the story.

“ i will unburden my soul”
Liked to feed and caring for the animals
Married early
Him and his wife had birds, gold fish, a dog, rabbits, a small monkey, and a black cat
Cat was called pluto
His personality started to change he became more moody irritable, yelled and hit his wife
Started to mistreat his animals except pluto
One day he got drunk and pluto bit him, got very mad
Cut the cats eye out
Got upset and even more drunk after that
Saying how he wants to violate the law because it is a law
Hung the cat because it loved him and because it had done nothing wrong
Woke up to find his house was set on fire
One wall in his house was still intact and on the wall hung the cat with the rope still around its neck
But the cat was originally hung in the garden
Then got another cat that looks similar to the black cat
Started to hate that cat
The new cat was also missing an eye
Cant sleep at night anymore
Starts to hate all life its self
The tripped hi on accident, he got really mad, took the axe and tried to kill the cat, but the wife stopped his hand , got even more mad and swung the axe into her head
Hid the body
Hid her in the cellar walls
Slept great after the cat somehow disappeared and killed his wife
The death of his wife barely affected him, he just shurgged it off
The guy was boasting to the police as they were on their way out about how well made the house and the walls are and how sturdy they were
Started to hear howling coming from the place he hid her
The police heard it too and started to take apart the wall
The body flopped out
Finds out he hid the cat with the body and thats what was making the noise.
I can’t thank you enough for this
omg boy! this is such a big help right now! thanks so much!!
this is the best and most horrifying story I've heard. love it omg
The evil one was not the drink or the cat, it was himself.
