    Hello,. I discovered your TH-cam channel a little while ago and really enjoy your videos. When I was growing up here in Central Ky, The farm where I grew up had a 1010 John Deere that was nothing but problems - It was broken down more than it was running. The farm owner traded the John Deere 1010 for a 1970 Ford 3000 gasoline tractor which turned out to be a very good all around tractor. The Ford was used to spread horse manure and to pull a C-80 Woods Mower for mowing the pastures. It seemed like the tractor performed great no matter what was asked of it. The only maintenance issues were maybe a battery every once in a while or gasoline engine tune up items such as spark plugs but really nothing major. The only thing that I remember being problematic was that the muffler was very easily bent over if you were around trees very much. My dad made a straight pipe which I think was on the tractor when the farm was sold. The Ford 4610 Diesels that we maintained at the state government equipment repair facility reminded me of our Ford 3000 other than having a Diesel engine. The Ford 4610 tractors also had “Shuttle Shift” which would be very beneficial for a loader. I hope this bit of information helps you make a better decision.

      Mufflers, we've replaced a few. It seems every time he buys a used tractor they have been knocked loose.

      @@mommymilestones Yeah, Those OEM mufflers are not made out of much. I used to weld heavy plumbing pipe on each end of a Glass Pack muffler for a Super A FarmAll which worked rather well. Usually the high temperatures of the tractor exhaust will completely burn the paint off of the glass pack within a short duration of time.

    That’s a lot of money for a 1010 I was looking at one here in Maine it was listed for $2,500 and looked really good for it’s age

    The 1010was a good utility tractor if taken care of will rake and run a baler in most ground as long as u don't try to over load wagons will need fluid in rear tires or weights or both

    A word of warning for 1010s, the gas engines can be temperamental, but overall are a decent engine, but a 1010 diesel is something to actively avoid, they were not a well made engine

      Thanks for the info. We generally prefer a diesel when available.

      @@mommymilestones If a diesel is a requirement for you, I'd steer clear of 1010s, then

    That Tintin would be a good choice but I think you’re right price is kind of steep if you could just bring them down on their price two around four that would be a good price

    If you think the tractor is over priced just go in and make them an offer. By that I mean if the tractor is 6800.00 and you only want to pay 4500.00 go in and tell them you are only willing will give them 4000,00 more then likely they will work a deal. I did that with an old lawn tractor I bought from a dealer, they wanted 1600.00 and I walked out with the lawn tractor and only paid 800.00 for it.

      I watched that 50 all summer. I even tried to buy them both in a package deal. They would not deal. Eventually it went of to another dealership as this one was more lawn than ag equipment. The trouble is lots of hobby farmers with 10 acres will pay them too much and the farm making hay trying to keep costs down cant pay for it at $4-6 a bale. Simple Fords have gone up in the past 2 years also. The right ones just seems to find us. No shortage of tractors here.

    Are you stuck on a green and yellow tractor? If not take a look at a Ford 2000 or 3000. The 1010 has a tendency of having clutch issues. The don't hold up to hard use.

    • @kevinbaker6168
      @kevinbaker6168 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would steer clear of the 50. Nice old tractor, has PS, but no 3pt and live power take off or hydraulics. Get a newer tractor, something made in the 60's or later. Also, think 30 to 40 up, keeps you compatible on implements, plus usually has at least one remote hydraulic hook up, which will make adding a loader easier if it doesn't have one.

      One thing about those Fords is that some had the Select-O-Speed transmissions, run from those!!!

    The JD 50 was available with factory 3 pt, but most were sold without.

    • @mommymilestones
      @mommymilestones  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It seems odds since most implements are 3 point.

    Ive tried in my area to get dealer to come down on prices and they just refuse. Some stuff has sat for 2 years. Ive come to the realization they use a high price on used equipment to drive you to purchase newer equipment. Last place id buy used is from a dealer.

    • @mommymilestones
      @mommymilestones  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes they are stubborn on used. When we bought a brand new tedder they were happy to give us a cash discount though.

    A 1020 or 135 mf would be a better tractor and cheap

    She says she sees oil leaking and then she can see orange gasket sealer. RUN!!! A silicone scientist has worked on that tractor. If I see RTV in the gasket seems, I won't even start it. It just is not that expensive or difficult to get proper gaskets for a tractor. If you see RTV either the mating surfaces were not cleaned in preparation to installing new gaskets or there is no gasket at all. Upkeep and repair was done in a lazy cheap way and it will be a lot of work to correct.
    You pointed to the valve cover and said it looks like the head gasket was replaced. 🤣 That RTV will guarantee you will have oil dripping down both sides of your engine. Most likely no gasket on the valve cover. Let the valve cover be the telltale for the entire tractor. That tractor based on the corrective work needed is worth $1200 and not a penny more and that's if it runs well and everything works.
    As for the folks busting on the 1010. I own a 1010 RUS. I love that little tractor! That tractor will work sunup till sundown on a single tank of gas. It has plenty of power for its size. Never overheats. Never gives me any problems. Starts right up hot or cold. It is a breeze to maintain. Comfortable to sit on and operate all day. I have no complaints! Not bad for a tractor of sixty years! I know of three other 1010 tractors in my area and the owners love them. For all of the "flaws" in the design some like to point out, you would be hard pressed to find anything new built half as well as the 1010. If you don't like it, don't buy it!🤔
    My two cents.

    Take a look at Messicks.com website - used equipment. They have a 2010 with a loader installed with a list price of $4750.00. It's been on there site for a while.

    hi the fifty is a 25 horse tractor a good tractor for the size of your son and the 1010 with people that know john deeres the 1010 was the worst tractor built by john deere of the next generation or the series after the 30 series two cylinders and the 1010 i would not buy it if i was going to use it a later model john deere would be better or different brand the small international tractor in the barn with the loader in your pic would be a good model to look for

    • @mommymilestones
      @mommymilestones  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I believe you're correct. I have been reading online about huge problems with the 1010 that was worked out later. Maybe 2000 series and up is what I should be looking for if I can't find a 2 cylinder like a 430, 50, 530. I was so disappointed about that International selling before I got to it.
