As the guy who was living in this house prior to all of this, that was extremely fun to watch. I'm glad you got to do this Thub. It seems like it was worthwhile. To the commenters who think this was a "perfectly good house" I assure you, it was not. Though it may not have been the worst house, there were many deficiencies. Too many to mention here. It needed to be demolished. As far as i know, it was purchased for around $750K. In its place 2 houses will be built that will likely be listed for about a million each. Call it what you want but that's just good business.

Just be careful of people who pick up on your “good guy vibes” and use that against you.
I get the feeling “some folks” take more of the cash than you. After you’ve put in all the hard work. Justifying the cut because:
“you get to make some money from TH-cam”
Not judging or criticising, you or them. I want to make sure bad things don’t happen to nice people.

Yeah... that's where i make the best $$$ from house clean-outs! Usually the appliances are older than 5 years... but for the stove, fridge, dishwasher, oven I usually make $100 for each appliance. If there is a washer/dryer set... that's an easy $250+. Then I breakdown the scrap into the most valuable price point. When I have a truck worth of scrap... then I turn it in! My biggest load to date is 1400 pounds of steel (2700 for the year), 450 pounds of aluminum. I'm still consolidating my wire to take in next with my next steel load. And i have yet to turn in the 1500 pounds of heavy iron.

Great workout! I should recycle some old clothes too but I almost can't bring myself to do it, and I am also too lazy to shop new ones

I've done a few house demos and I never made less than 800 taking out all the copper, brass, wires exposed, and all the misc metal that gets labeled as light iron. It's definitely worth it

A perfectly good home being torn down. Happening all over the place. Starter homes being torn down for giant homes. I don't know who can afford these giant homes. But this is the trend.

Yeah… I’ve got thoughts and feelings about it for sure. They’ll probably build a massive blocky duplex with 10ft ceilings and no yard for 1M per side. It’s the restless march of the capitalist, always needing more, perpetuating the housing crisis by pricing out the majority of buyers. Is flipping houses even a real job if it simply extracts value through shifting supply up to price speculating landlords? The system needs tweaking

Adventures like this can end up being really profitable especially if you are being hired to do the clean out of the property where you get to keep everything although it often becomes at the very least a two person job in a limited time frame 😮 and you can also run into asbestos issues. So safety first but love this type of content.

Awesome score thub! Was hoping you’d grab some more of the Romex, cause it runs through the whole house, but still really nice pile

I completely agree, and that was the plan the whole time. I went in expecting to pull long strands of wire straight through the drywall and end with a huge pile, but we just ran out of time at the end of the day. Next time we’ll get an earlier start and not lose so much time talking to the neighbor 😅

It's not often one is watching TH-cam and sees a person you used to hang out with. Lol wild. In case you read this I'll leave a hint, we used to hang with Scribbles at my place on 14th. Many moons ago.

The sinks were porcelain and stone but you’re right, there was plenty more to pull if I’d been more efficient with the time we had. The furnace and water heater as well

You have to be careful about asbestos in the drywall, Houses here 1990 & before have to be tested for asbestos before you can do any demo
