I actually prefer shutter priority one or two steps over the number of the focal length with auto iso set for 6400 max. My camera has no ibis so sharp subject is more important than blurred background to me. Manual is for when I have more time and of course auto works fine in many cases. Manual lenses can teach you more than the manual mode IMHO
