    Going to give your technique in stripping paint and de-rusting a try. God only knows I have tried many different things with very little success. Thanks for another great video!!

      It’s hard to find, it’s banned in some states. I get it from my local O’reillys

    I think you can use a vice to bend metal into a 90. Use a hammer to bend it over.

      I’ve done that a couple times. Works well if you can clamp it straight

    Would love to see more detail on your small parts fabrication. You’re successfully dealing with situations many of us are hesitant to take on. Appreciate your technique and video presentation style.

    Love your patience. We don’t have the same paint/rust remover in the uk. I’d love to know if other brits have found anything as good here. Keep up the good work 👍

    If someone paid you $60/hr to deal with rust as a full time job would you do it.

    I think your rust treatment technique is spot on so many painters paint over surface rust like that or think it's okay to paint over the black iron phosphate. This is so wrong, there is legit rust under that iron phosphate and it will kill a paint job. Now if it is an interior panel or on a part like the floor where it won't experience large amounts of moisture a rust encapsulator will let it live for a long time without issues.

    Great video. Be careful! Don't breathe around that rat nest mess. (I've heard bad things about that!) Keep up the great work!!

    I know it is a lot of work. And you have to precise in what you do otherwise the rust is back in 2 month. Hold up the good work and invest enough time. At the nd the chassy will be thankfull and you have years of fun with it. ;-) I hope we see more videos for the next two years of work, haha.

    It is almost ready to be painted after an exhaustive adventure of getting rid of rust so it can come back to the roads again , it may be hard work, but it is going to be better than any new car of course it is going to have some improvements, but it is still the 1973 Volkswagen Westfalia camper.

    I’d be keen on seeing the “how to fabricate smaller parts” videos.
    My biggest issue I am having is blowing holes and then trying to flood it with weld to “fix” my mistake. Just keeps getting bigger and bigger 🤣

    I would recommend replacing the rear left side panel completely up to the point of rust. There at the height where your rust hole is located on both sides along the wheel arch down is a sealing bead that is embedded between the side panel and inner wheel house. It becomes brittle and rust can break through from the inside at any time , as has already happened above. That would be a pity for the new painting..

    • @Vangabonders
      @Vangabonders  ปีที่แล้ว

      From the inside I can see about how far the rust went on that inside section. It seems pretty localized to that one spot due to the nest that was formed above it. Other than that it isn't really rusty. Any idea where I can buy that inner sealing bead though?

    • @peter7417
      @peter7417 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Vangabonders it is more of a sealing cord/sealant that was inserted between the inner wheel arch and the side wall.
      The inner wheel house is probably not available at the moment. I had the same problem with my VW, but it is a pickup. But it should be the same. But there are pictures of the spare part on the internet, where you can see exactly where the sealing cord is inserted.on the sides the two sheet metals sitting very close to each other so you cant really see whats going on.
