  • In this video we show you how we use diatomaceous earth to treat our pest issues in the garden. We came out to kill our cucumber beetles and squash bugs but found an aphid infestation instead! Thanks for watching and enjoy!

    A little about us:
    In September 2015, our hearts were hijacked with the dream of living on a large farm, with community, growing food, caring for animals and loving on children in need of care and healing. It was a God moment, where our dreams collided with His dreams… a dream so big we could never do it in our own strength and wisdom. Since then, we have been on a journey to see that dream become a reality. This channel documents that journey.

      @@DebRoo11You’re correct.
      It’s only effective as an organic pesticide it’s in its DRY state. I’m sure once it dries after being applied wet, it will again be effective-however, some of the D.E. may “shed” somewhat as it dries.
      I’d rather apply it dry and KNOW I’ve got good coverage, rather than HOPE it’s enough once it dries.

    Stressed out plants attract pests.
    Add silica to your watering if you're a water only gardener. Or add it to your compost tea or nutrients. Silica strengthens the cell wall and making it more resistant to pests and disease. Diatomaceous earth is silica dioxide and can be absorbed through the tissues of the roots so mixing DE in your soil can supplement your silica also. Happy Gardening growmies✌️

    Great vid!
    Aphids often come with ants.
    For ants, I use DE and borax traps.
    For a borax trap, use a jar/old yogurt container, punch holes large enough for ants, and put in 1 tsp borax and 4 tsp sugar. Mix with water until you get a slurry about the consistency of honey. Check the "trap" now and then to make sure it's still moist (doesn't dry out). It's not really a trap - The ants take the blend back to the nest and feed others in the nest - including (potentially) the queen.
    Hope this is of use.
    Cheers!

    • @seraeggobutterworth5247
      @seraeggobutterworth5247 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is true. For flowering crops I generally use DE on the ground, as a barrier around the plants, or only on the lower branches and leaves. I think if you’re very careful you can apply it to the foliage closer to where your fruit formation occurs, but I personally avoid it because we have too many plants for me to get in there to dust the upper leaves while avoiding the blossoms and potentially harming pollinators.
