    Hi, thanks for the great video. The contractor that did my bathroom set a marble threshold except now it like 3/4 inch above the hardwood floor. I think there’s a thick bed of thinset under it. What’s the best option to fix it? Should I hammer it to remove, chisel out the excessive thinset and set it again? Thank you!

    • @datileguy301
      @datileguy301  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The best option is to remove it . Chisel away the excessive thinset. Check how high it is after that. You can also see how thick the threshold is u can purchase one that is 5/8 or 1/2 inch. I would just glue down a piece of kerdi on wood to install the threshold so it doesn't raise up also. If you install directly on wood it could come off shortly after good luck thank you for your great comment 👍🏼

    Good video, thank you. I will be having my hardwood flooring replaced and plan on adding marble thresholds to the doors. Should they be installed before the new hardwood? Or should the hardwood floor installer put them in? Thank you ☺️

    • @datileguy301
      @datileguy301  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would have them installed before if you can. Make sure they aren't to high or to low . Wood is 3/4 thick and to leave little gap in front were wood meets the threshold. For movement. Thank you for your kind words 🙏

    Could this marble/quarz be laid directly on top of plywood or do I have to do what you did?

    • @datileguy301
      @datileguy301  ปีที่แล้ว

      Recommended to put something down on top of plywood. U can get 1/4 inch durock it's less thick then 1/2 inch. Otherwise you run the risk of it breaking. Thank you

    Alignment of threshold out into hall…. ? Should I line threshold up with edge of hallway drywall? Concrete floor bare and I don’t know if we will be putting tile, carpet or laminate in hallway.

    • @datileguy301
      @datileguy301  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If that works for you then go for it. They sale difrent size thresholds to adjust the size if you need it wider. Like 4 1/2 or 5 inches

  • @WG12115

    I just came to see if to extend the cement board under the threshold as well. I think that's what u meant when u said u put quarter inch durock

    • @datileguy301
      @datileguy301  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes that's what you have todo. But check what size to out down so the threshold doesn't sit to high for you. Good luck 👍🏼

    Great video! I'm putting in both a new the threshold and new prehung door now that the tile flooring is done. I see you cut/put the threshold 'between' the jamb. Is that better than installing the threshold under the jamb? I was wondering if one way is better. In your method, did you caulk the seam between the threshold and the jamb?

    • @datileguy301

      Thanks for the comment
      I always feel its best to install the threshold once the door is installed. But to the jamb. Yes it was caulked

    Thanks for the video everything you talked about was exactly what I was needing to know about installing the threshold! If you transition to carpet though what do you need to do with the carpet? Mine had a metal strip with nails holding it down, but i doubt that's meant to go up against a nice marble transition. Any suggestions?

    • @datileguy301
      @datileguy301  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm glad it helped. 2 things you can do remove the metal strip lift the carpet up and place the threshold with carpet over it. Then you can call a carpet installer to come and take care of it for you. The second option is if you trust your abilities is to cut the carpet back with a sharp knife. Make sure to cut it a lil bit bigger so the threshold can sit on top of it . Remove some padding around the area where the threshold is so it tucks under the threshold but don't cut too much these have to be nice straite cuts too.

      Hello these can be bought at your local tile stores. The big ones like homedepot and Loews only have like basic white and beige . The Hollywood threshold is good if you want it to slope in its good for wheelchair accessibility

      I have a similar question but about laminate wood flooring. Haven’t installed the flooring yet. They’re installing the bathroom tile and threshold first. Worried they’ll need to pry up the threshold and try to fit the laminate planks under it?? I’d love any suggestions. Thanks!!
