Hey Jesse. Thanks for the advice. Nice video. I haven't seen a video from you in 9 months. I live in Ontario zone 5 so I appreciate your experience and knowledge about growing food. I started a food forest garden last summer. Its nice to relate to people with similar zone conditions. Thanks for sharing Jesse. Spring is in the air, keep the videos coming. Cheers Happy gardening
The last year has been exceptionally busy for the family and myself. Great, but very busy! We welcomed our daughter into the world just over a year ago and with my spouse and I both working as nurses our attention has been pulled in many different directions at times! In any case, I am feeling the drive to put more healthy food on the table and expect to get back into producing videos a little more regularly! This year is shaping up to be a great one, as long as the fruit flowers stay closed for long enough avoid frost. I am having my share of doubts with this extremely early warm weather! It's always nice to hear that others are trying to expand their knowledge (like us) and create a little piece of paradise on their property. It sounds like your project has the potential to provide so much for all the life that exists around you!Congratulations on your undoubtedly hard work and commitment to a healthier lifestyle! I'm sure it will pay off given a little bit of time! I would also like to thank you for watching the channel and encourage you to share with me any tips I miss touching on. Also, thank you for your encouraging words! Cheers!
@@TheHolmsteadWithJesseHolm Thank you for this response and congrats on your daughter. I myself have a little girl myself, its truly a gift I'm so thankful for her. Its amazing how fast time goes by since she was born, enjoy every moment with her while shes still young. I didn't realize you were a nurse. Thank you for everything you guys have been dealing with in regards to covid. I can't imagine how hard it must be right now. Thank you for your help. Thank you for sharing. Stay safe, stay healthy.
Just found your channel and subscribed. Soooo interesting , well explained , science and practical based, intelligent. You are an inspiration! I live in Quebec zone 4b. Also a wet piece of land. I’m starting a food forest so your experience is so valuable. Just bought some Aronia bushes. All the best to you and your family.
This is so cool! I love mushrooms and I am excited to try them and compare their taste to store bought ! It was a lot of work to get set up, great job!
I had read that as well, but according to research done at Cornell University over a 20 year span it isn't true. the original idea was that if the logs were inoculated within three weeks after harvest, they would actively fight the fungi, because they would technically still be "alive." I read another study done at the University of Vermont that again verified this was not a concern. I am a little worried that the Oak logs did not have the right amount of moisture initially, because as I progressed and the weather warmed they had a noticeably higher moisture content when they were harvested. Hopefully the rain we have been receiving has been able to penetrate through the bark, fingers crossed. After recording this video, I inoculated another 25 bolts with sugar maple, they were dripping sap for 48 hours and even broke through extra wax coatings. Time will tell, but I followed all the viable information that I could get my hands on and believe that they will eventually fruit. Any new venture comes with worries, but I am mostly confident we will have something to harvest at some point! Thanks for checking in!
@@trollforge for some reason my phone won't copy the link, but if you google "Cornell shiitake mushroom," or "Vermont shiitake mushroom" you'll see pdf file links. The Cornell site is better. It looks like they just posted another shorter 8 page version, but the booklet I read was fairly lengthy, maybe 40 pages? I would read that one. Cheers!
Nice! I am looking forward to trying your shiitake mushrooms! :p We have a jar of your honey - it's awesome!
Hey buddy! We miss you! Looking forward to a visit again!
A great option for the Ottawa area. Thanks for the informative post, Jesse.
You are welcome!

Hmm, I thought I had read that you have to age the logs for Shitake, before plugging them...

@@TheHolmsteadWithJesseHolm do you have links to those studies, Jesse? I would like to read them too.
