    as someone who built homes/buildings/additions/decks/garages/and poured enough concrete to cover the earth lol...The time,dedication,and skills and devotion to building this is insane. You guys have a pretty amazing family to say the least..

    I'm impressed from start to finish on what you all have done considering your back grounds. Been a builder for over 30yrs and seen people with alot more knowledge and give up or make a complete disaster. So max KUDOS and ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ to you all and can't wait to see the final finish 👌👍

    Watching this house is so amazing. I've never seen anything like it. That straw and electric wires makes me so nervous.

      We built a Strawbale and we put our electrical wires in conduit in the straw.

    What a great family, that was inspiring to watch! I also wish our house was made of straw and clay instead of a single layer of bricks with single glazing now that Dutch winter is approaching

    The sawdust and planer shavings can be mixed with the clay instead of straw and it will make a smooth plaster

    The siblings should have made their own channel for this whole build. I’d be watching! Super cool. Very time consuming but the perfect trade off of time and sweat to keep cost down for a build during the quarantine. I am getting anxious to see everyone move in! So coooool!!!

    UF cable is rated for underground direct earth burial. Why would this be preferred over NM cable in an above ground application?
    I would not place any power cabling in direct contact with strawbales but would use conduit or perhaps MC cabling which would aid in grounding the system and devices.
    Curious to know what the AHJ said.

    10:40. I remember the old doctor who was teaching us about using all five senses to do urinalysis. What I was the only one to notice was that he stuck his middle-finger in the specimen cup but switched to put his index finger on his tongue. Some of the students actually tasted it. Boy, were they mad when they found out the lesson was about careful visual observation, NOT about taste!!!

    This might be a labor of love, but it is not a cost effective way to go. The crane rentals, large factory built windows, etc., are all indications that money was not really an issue on this project.

    • @sydandmacky
      @sydandmacky  ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure what your definition of cost effective is, but the windows were salvaged and cost them around $1k for all the windows in the house. I don't know what the crane rental cost, but I don't think it was exorbitant since they operated it themselves. Frankly I don't think it's realistic to build a house of this size for much less than they have (this is part of the reason it's not done yet -- you know, time, money, quality...pick two...)

      Straw bale is actually less flammable than traditional stick and frame builds because it's so densely packed and the adobe makes it even more flame retardant.
