This talk demonstrates profound thinking around and about some deeply personal human experiences. Elly is telling us that it isn't just about one little girl's trauma and her mother's and her own bravery. It is about how as a community we can conquer fear, prejudice and ignorance and learn from difference. It is about how we can use our human values to help us open our hearts and minds to learning in unexpected and creative ways.
Elly and Ella show us how we can use the human capacity to make sense and meaning through love by listening and thoughtfully responding, feeling and noticing using all of our senses. A wise teacher I once collected data from and quoted said, "Education should be about enriching people's lives. We don't give enough choices. Life is not a formula." It seems to me this last comment should be kept in mind by all of us particularly when educating ourselves and others.

I too expected school to put wings on my child and felt crushed when it became apparent that they couldn't help her fly. Such an incredibly powerful talk and so beautofully delivered. Thank you for spreading this important message far and wide.
