Absolutely love your advice, been following you for over a year and my diet is finally starting to come together. It really is about adding one small thing (that you like) at a time. If you don’t like what you’re doing or eating even a little bit, you’re going to burn out. Slow and steady
love the video. just quick respectful correction. ive seen the adam ruins everything episode too. where the cereal companies lobbied for breakfast being important. and allthough that is true, a lot of credible studies do show that larger meals in the morning and at noon are better for ur overall health and energy levels. u still prolly shouldnt be eating kelloggs tho lol. but there are also good studies that show intermittent fasting can be good too. dietary science is hard.
I've attempted to establish a regular exercise routine many times before, but I often found myself burning out quickly because I started too intensely for my level. However, this time, I decided to begin with just 10 minutes of easy exercise daily. Surprisingly, I soon found joy in the activity and became "addicted" to this beneficial habit. After maintaining this routine for a few weeks, I gradually increased both the duration and intensity of my workouts. Now, three months in, I'm following a plan that involves exercising six days a week for 20 minutes with a moderate activity level, and I reserve the seventh day for lighter, recovery exercises. I've already started seeing results in both build and strength. My current goal is to work up to 45 minutes of intense exercise on most days, except for Saturdays when I aim for 40 minutes, and Sundays for 30 minutes at a very light intensity. Previously, I struggled to motivate myself to stay active, often defaulting to inactivity or only engaging in sporadic exercise. This is the first time I feel confident that my routine will be sustainable. I hope sharing this might inspire others as well! Remember to be reasonable and listen to your body. not wanting to workout and being lazy feels way different from your body showing concern and asking for a break.
I really like that you talk to us like we're you're peers and not talking down to us. I think that helps a lot. Your videos really help me absorb the mindset I need to keep going.
I started working out 8 months ago and have been going to the gym 3 times a week. I really hoped I would see results earlier and that kinda demotivated me. I then realized that I'm already so much stronger than i was before and felt so much better. I'm nowhere near my dream body but I'll continue to work out cuz seeing my body change (even if it takes a long time) and feeling better while working out is motivating to keep on going!
I weighed 370 lbs and decided to start eating less and hitting the gym, im now down to 310, my weight loss has almost halted but im still happy that im not gaining it back. The fact im not gaining it back and im slowly at a snails pace still losing weight makes me happy. Prgress is progress, be proud of it.
You're spot on with people going into training and working out with the wrong motivation and facing burnout and quitting, because they are like "I'm gonna get lean and jacked fast!", instead of focusing on the psychological and behavioral mindset and being tuned to making it a permanent lifestyle first, with smaller increments. Most co-workers, family, and friends - that started working out and quit. All went into it WAAAAAY to hard, faced burnout, was discouraged by slow progress - and quit. So many people go straight to workout splits where they go to the gym like 4-6 times a week instead of 3x week full body programs. And are like "I'm gonna jog 5km every day" instead of easing into it with like a 500-1000m jog a few times a week. Most people I know that succeeded in making it a permanent lifestyle, and got REAL RESULTS, were the ones who eased into it with small increasing steps. Focusing on consistancy and creating the habit and enjoying the process. The first 2 times I tried and failed to get into building muscle and getting lean I did this same mistake. When I succeeded it was because I was mindful to the fact it takes time, that you need to focus on consistency and making it a lifestyle habit first and foremost.
The end point is very true i started to work out nearly everyday once i discovered how much i loved paralletes and the goal being wanting to be able to do cool stuff like L Sits and planches
Honestly thank you. I have been looking for advise like this for a while. So hard trying to get good advise sometimes. I started and im mid 20s. Always been lazy and unhealthy and no longer want that and making slow changes over time. Keeping strong and keeping going.
Finding reason to work out was so important for me, for me it’s wanting to be that dad who could run and play with his kids, I don’t want to be that guy who has to stop playing 5 mins into the game because I’m out of shape.
This "Hurray I'm getting healthier", you hear from people above 40, if they have first issues with health, and noticing some pain or whatever is going away, or endurance is coming back.
Breakfast actually is the most important. If you can even eat it, cuz I know my nephews just physically couldn't eat early in the morning at some point. It just came back out the same way it came in about half an hour later. I noticed that if I have a proper breakfast - I don't want sweets throughout the day as much as usual. I prefer buckwheat to cereal tho :)
Sure you've never met someone, but I work out 5 days a week because "I am getting healthier", yes :) That's my drive. I want to live forever, but I really enjoy getting bigger and looking better too.
I think one thing that puts me off is actually my body changing lol. Cause once you start you can’t really go back. You will see changes and from then on your body is no longer what you are so used to. But at the same time I know that once you reach a certain age, it will be super hard to make those gains. So it really is like a commitment. However you’ll end up looking, that is who you are.
Great advice, particularly about the massive over complication that the industry perpetuates. I have trained consistently for nearly 30 years. What I found, having tried many many often widely contrasting training modalities, is that ALL training regimens work when I eat like a maniac, NONE work when I do not eat like a maniac. Talking as a skinny hardgainer body type, here. So my main advice to young bucks who struggle to gain would be: go all-in on dirty bulks for maybe 3 months each year. I say 3 months in 12 because that’s probably realistic - you need to be eating a very uncomfortable, inconvenient and expensive amount of food to gain size, and it absolutely sucks. It requires a lot of motivation and sacrifice. So do it for a spell, then maintain (which is extremely easy training wise and you can eat like a normal person and easily trim off some of the excess fat that came along with your muscle gain), rinse and repeat forever. Because the training method matters wayyyyyy less than you think, you’re free to do whatever you enjoy the most, making it easy to have the all important consistency. I eventually came around to high frequency, high-ish volume, low-ish intensity being the best method in every possible aspect, but again, don’t sweat it, do your Mentzer sht if you must, it’s fine. Just EAT!
Great video.. excellent for those just beginning.. as well as those who are maintaining.. even those who want to get back into it.. Yes.. a skinny six pack DOES count.. all my sons agree.. 🤗 Btw.. I eat Greek yogurt all day.. every day.. believe it is a perfect food :) Excellent video Colin.. keep do king these ….💜💙🦋
Lesson that I have learned in this video are: 1. Have a strong reason on why we want to chase this goal to push through tough times. 2. Add small tweaks on diet and workout and eventually it will get us jacked. 3. We only have limited time in a day so to efficiently reach our goal faster is to prioritize it more.
My reasons that I’m gonna use to stick to it: I wanna be able do a handstand, because that’s cool. I want to be able to effortlessly carry my significant other, princess style. I also want to be able to hold and shoot my AR12 with one hand because hell yeah.
Something thats been working for me so far is arms and chest one day next abs and back then next day legs looking to try and incorpate some walking and a row machine daily. I have noticed some strength gains already and some mild stamnia increase. Been doing it almost a month now. Using resitance bands for the strength gains.
i started cosplaying as spider man and that's helped push me to get into shape. I've lost 74 lbs in a year and started to gain some muscle tone now. lesgoooo
Here's a refreshing take on an evergreen subject. With well-performed dead-pan humour and yogurt! I couldn't help thinking that much of this content might be directed a little differently toward women. In my part of the world at least, not many women are acclimated to the environment of fitness. Maybe because they're afraid of Jamaican accents? Maybe they never wanted to dunk . . . .
My deepest goal is to beat the constant struggle with gravitation. With age come the loss of muscles if you do nothing and you are more and more getting a game ball of gravitation. that feels really bad and you are constantly weak. first step of senility. when you are young you will not believe be, but lets talk again when you are 50/60+
For me, going to bed earlier and waking up earlier (every day) to workout (early mornings) works best for me. It keeps me consistent and prevents procrastination. I believe in creating a workout routine that is for life first, and for results second, but the health benefits, while maybe unseen, are definitely happening and a hundred times more important than having the improved looks. Also, not everyone needs to eat extra food, as they’re either already fat or have a slow metabolism. This type of person should have a much easier time bodybuilding than a super skinny person or someone with a fast metabolism that needs to eat more in order to build.
I was skinny fat for a long time what significantly helped was eating more especially the protein a lot of people who are skinny fat are that way due to undereating and having lost weight (or drinking alcohol) and it's so addicting seeing resulting, will say i thought i loved food after eating as much as i need to my god i hate food sometimes protein shakes help so much hitting protein goals because i frankly do not have the money to buy as much chicken thighs as i would need to support my daily protein daily or would even wanna cook that much
Am I too impatient? I started working out again... started in February 2024 with new weights! This is now the last day of July '24 and although I made a 6 day routine and 1 day off per week, I barely increased my muscle mass on the scale in the bathroom.😪 I made sure I ate roughly 1.0 - 1.4 g protein / kg body weight (vegan). I kept buying new weights, even a barbell for heavier weights... I made some changes in the split and even increased the intensity of the training over time (not only weight-wise), but kept the 6/1 ratio (for now, but 3-1-3 also sounds interesting). Every training is at least 1 hour. One day in the week it takes 2 hours of strength training and another day with 2 hours of cardio under the sun. In these 25 weeks maybe 6 weeks or so were not perfect due to other appointments or injuries. The only thing that changed until now is that I can lift more and some people noticed a new look on me. So it's noticable, but I am still lifting beginner-weights....
The fitness journey is a marathon, for those who think it’s a sprint, good luck with that. Lots of people fall over for those “miracle fat burners” resorting to selling their kidneys etc for that but keep having the same new year resolution every year~
I'm looking to get in shape but I can't seem to figure out how to go about structuring a workout routine. I want to workout from home and I don't know if I want to use weights, kettlebells, resistance bands, suspension trainers, or maybe even not do any of those and just do calisthenics. It's almost overwhelming trying to figure out where I should start with this.
Basic bodyweight compounds can take you a long way, push ups, pull ups/chin ups, dips, rows, lunges and split squats. The key is to be consistent, keep your calories and macro`s on point and get plenty of sleep.
Just start with the basics, as the guy above mentioned. I'd say find a progression that you can perform about 8-12 repetitions of and do it for sets of 2-4. Don't pick too many exercises at first. Do the most basic ones and learn to stay consistent. As you build strength, which takes time, try out new variations and progress to more difficult exercises. Don't forget to keep researching to learn more about the sport and build the perfect routine for you.
This is much better than all those clickbait videos with you do this wrong you do that wrong. Keeping it simple and having consistency is key. I wanna lower my fat from 20% to at least 15% but preferably lower. And I wanna have slight deficit with plenty protein to train for muscle. Is that good? Hardest part is not going to quick with changing routines. I wanna change everything all at once.
Thanks for the advice mate, it's motivating stuff! I want to ask you, have you been able to avoid causing any pain / damage to your ligaments and tendons? That is one little concern that is holding me back a little, although I'm sure there are things one could do to reduce that risk
My advice is enjoy working out. Enjoy the grind. Enjoy waking up at unholy hours. Enjoy learning to eat healthier. Enjoy the pain. Enjoy doing all this while working a 9-5. Because if you do all this just because of the looks, but don’t enjoy the journey itself, you won’t go very far.
Buy a scale and a food scale. Track your calories. With this information you can make educated decisions. Do cardio before you eat and after a workout.
about the thing with the gym: in my town (ugly city in germany) nearly everywhere you look, you can see a talahon shadowboxing in between their sets. Thats super annoying, but maybe also due to the cheap price of my gym.

Yes.. a skinny six pack DOES count.. all my sons agree.. 🤗
Btw.. I eat Greek yogurt all day.. every day.. believe it is a perfect food :)
Excellent video Colin.. keep do king these ….💜💙🦋
Yes everyday, greek yogurt is the best! and thank you 🙏
@@colinmurrayYT You are welcome 🤗👍
Thanks for this bro, I'm starting calisthenics and this is very helpful.
Anytime bro! Happy it helped
Jheez!! He sculpted like a Greek statue.
I think I’m in love …
Lesson that I have learned in this video are:
1. Have a strong reason on why we want to chase this goal to push through tough times.
2. Add small tweaks on diet and workout and eventually it will get us jacked.
3. We only have limited time in a day so to efficiently reach our goal faster is to prioritize it more.
For change of scenery it would be pretty cool if you could record outside on like a nice sunny day or something, that would be fire.
I honestly really love this channel
My reasons that I’m gonna use to stick to it: I wanna be able do a handstand, because that’s cool. I want to be able to effortlessly carry my significant other, princess style. I also want to be able to hold and shoot my AR12 with one hand because hell yeah.
Same
Colin Murray - you are gorgeous and you seem to have a pleasant personality. Thanks for your advice.
Message understood: make friends with Jamaican people
Something thats been working for me so far is arms and chest one day next abs and back then next day legs looking to try and incorpate some walking and a row machine daily. I have noticed some strength gains already and some mild stamnia increase. Been doing it almost a month now. Using resitance bands for the strength gains.
this video truly helped me keep focus. thanks man!
Thank you for the tips and the encouragement 💪🏻🩵
i started cosplaying as spider man and that's helped push me to get into shape.
Maybe they never wanted to dunk . . . .
This video was helpful. Just purchased your ebook, Colin. Looking froward to cracking into it! Keep on keeping on.
You're welcome hope you enjoy it. Let me know if there's anything I can improve and good luck training!
@@colinmurrayYT Thanks, Colin. Have you ever considered offering motivational coaching? You're gifted at it.
This type of person should have a much easier time bodybuilding than a super skinny person or someone with a fast metabolism that needs to eat more in order to build.
the jamaican accent killed me lmao
I’m 300lbs and this video has inspired me to
Bro Lowkey Looks Like A Roman Emperor
I was skinny fat for a long time what significantly helped was eating more especially the protein a lot of people who are skinny fat are that way due to undereating and having lost weight (or drinking alcohol) and it's so addicting seeing resulting, will say i thought i loved food after eating as much as i need to my god i hate food sometimes protein shakes help so much hitting protein goals because i frankly do not have the money to buy as much chicken thighs as i would need to support my daily protein daily or would even wanna cook that much
I just subscribed, Coz your so honest.... You even mentioned your E-book hahahahah. Respect
bro has the face of a renaissance painting
As a Jamaican, I approve of the fitness plan 🇯🇲
Am I too impatient?
I started working out again... started in February 2024 with new weights! This is now the last day of July '24 and although I made a 6 day routine and 1 day off per week, I barely increased my muscle mass on the scale in the bathroom.😪
I made sure I ate roughly 1.0 - 1.4 g protein / kg body weight (vegan).
Great video! It really inspired me to take action. Thank you so much.
Super cool painting
Thank you!
Any advice for people whose main problem is consistency?
Thank you for the video bro, I needed it
i got fit going to the pool and doing hella flips folks
thanks bro
You have one of the vest best physiques I've ever seen!!!❤😍❤😍❤
This is cool bro, thanks for this.
Also, cool name.
So true :)
Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good, just work out and make it a habit!!
Hey Colin I'm Collins just wanna say thank for the great video man
Hey Collins I appreciate that and cool name bro 🤝
lol "the other day I ate yogurt....the whole day" :D hahaha!
Wait a minute, did he just say one of the steps is to make friends with Jamaican people?
Thanks for the advice mate, it's motivating stuff! I want to ask you, have you been able to avoid causing any pain / damage to your ligaments and tendons? That is one little concern that is holding me back a little, although I'm sure there are things one could do to reduce that risk
7:20 literally chiseled marble woah
that really helped me out
Wait I do get motivated by being healthier😭
Nice art, I presume you painted it? You got a strong core. Impressive transformation.
what’s your skincare routine bro
Yogurt
Great advise thank you
My advice is enjoy working out.
Looking so good 💪🏼
Buy a scale and a food scale.
Track your calories.
With this information you can make educated decisions.
Do cardio before you eat and after a workout.
Humble likeable dude. Great video... sub'd
Just doing market research
about the thing with the gym: in my town (ugly city in germany) nearly everywhere you look, you can see a talahon shadowboxing in between their sets. Thats super annoying, but maybe also due to the cheap price of my gym.
Yoo I just subbed dope videos man you should totally make a diet video ! You motivated me to do calisthenics
this ginger bread man said eat either a surplus a deficit or maintenance of calories depending on yoru circumstance. bro,. thats literally all the options
