i liked that anthony had someone on who had a negative experience being a sugar baby. i think it is dangerous to paint it as a fabulous lifestyle because people- espeically young people- may see it as a great opportunity to chase money while throwing their personal morals and safety out the door. personally, i think prostitution should be legalized, and i find it intersteing that sugar babies dont see it as prostitution. in no other romantic relationship are you wired money. i worry that there is a ton of abuse going on in these relationships because of the power dynamic- one person needing the money and the other person hanging it over their head.
Actually, wealthy people wire their significant others money and spoil them with luxuries often. Rich people date other rich people for the lifestyle and reputation they can afford them, but it seems like it's only considered a talking point when middle and lower class people are trying to date outside of their class. And as for one party having money and the other not - that's capitalism and every job, is it not? The fact that many SBs don't consider themselves full service sex workers (the preferred term instead of the prost***** slur) is actually really common - people feel like they have to distance themselves from the job society has deemed dirty and illegal, and there's unfortunately a lot of hierarchical thoughts amongst sex workers of thinking the work they do is better or classier than other type of work. :/ Most sex workers want decriminalization instead of legalization because legalization opens doors for government abuse. Anyway, your comment just made me start thinking and I wanted to share my perspective.
Devin Pickrell well with the case of wealthy people sending their S.O money, that’s because that’s their S.O, they (hopefully) both intend to stay together for life get married etc. with sugar babies, marriage for most of them isn’t what they’re after, just money. I also think Sugar babies who have sex are doing a form of prostitution. As for the legality of prostitution purchasing a prostitute should be illegal, but being one shouldn’t, as prostitutes have to deal with things like abuse. If they report it they’d get in legal trouble for being a prostitute so they don’t, and have to deal with the abuse.

Even if that weren't the case, it shouldn't be up to us to govern private, consensual relationships agreed on between two adults. As for legality - you're referencing what's popularly dubbed the Nordic Model. Studies show it actually ends up jailing as many full service sex workers as it is when it's illegal, so they still can't go to the police. Most countries that use that also make it illegal to rent housing to sex workers or take money from them or share a home with them if they work from it - so it often leaves them homeless, without security or a safety network, and incapable of telling anyone what they're doing. Most human rights organizations actually favor decriminalization.
Devin Pickrell Why would prostitution get jailed? I said only purchasing would be illegal, but the prostitute would not get in trouble. I really only say this to prevent abuse of prostitutes, idk what the Nordic model is, but if it leads to prostitutes getting arrested, I don’t agree with it. This should also really only apply to open prostitution, something like sugar relationships shouldn’t be included in this.
Edit: It seems like the reason he Nordic model can hurt prostitutes is because of how strict it is, it’s main purpose is to decrease all around prostitution. My version of it is less strict, prostitues can still work together, work at brothels etc, but it’s only illegal for an individual to purchase the services. With the Nordic model, it seems if you have anything to do with prostitution (besides the actual sex on the prostitutes part) you could get in legal trouble which leads to prostitutes themselves who are inevitably involved in the business getting I trouble. As I said before, my version is different with the main goal to be protecting woman, not stopping prostitution. The only thing illegal would be the actual purchasing of it, prostitues would still be able to host brothels and advertise their services among other things. The only other things I might include is keeping it away from schools, but that’s debatable
