82nd Airborne Veteran. As I'm writing this tears are rolling down my face. You raised the moral, you supported us, you bought a wheelchair for my brother in arms. Thank you for doing so much for us. Your music and legacy will live forever.
Well said. He put to words what I always, and still feel in my heart even 12 years after I retired from the Army. "When Liberty's in jeopardy, I will always do what's right."
My brother asked my mom to play this song every morning on our way to school during my dad's first deployment. I hope Toby knew how much his music helped the families of so many soldiers.
Another black man here. I'm a veteran and I more than appreciate Toby Keith. Not just for his talent but also for his respect and love for servicemen and women. RIP!!!
Rest in the Lords eternal peace brother. What you did for those of us in uniform and this nation, we can never repay you for. My most fervent prayer right now is that the Lord has you in a very intentional place leading people with your amazing music....
My dad served in WWII and came home wounded from North Africa. He carried the shrapnel the rest of his life until he died in 1992 with cancer. He died a believer. I pray Toby Keith died a believer, a follower of Christ like my dad. if he did, he won the greatest battle!
From a statement on the internet. "He boldly made his mark in the country music industry but quietly lived out his last days with an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ turning to prayer in the midst of one of the most challenging times in his life. "Toby Keith passed peacefully last night on Feb. 5 surrounded by his family," read a statement posted by his family on X. "He fought his fight with grace and courage." " He's with your dad, my parents and grandparents and everyone else in Heaven with Jesus.
How do you tell your co-workers, who are too young to know what we actually went through, how a simple song sang by a man that died yesterday, is causing you to cry? RIP Toby Keith
I've been watching Toby's songs and his interviews all day. My youngest son told me of his passing when I got up. I served 6 years with my local Army National Guard Field Artillery Unit, 1982-88. A big part of my family and friends are veterans- from various times and various military branches. I've always loved Toby's songs. But this one and all his other patriotic songs really get me. I'm 60 now, big and tough and rough around the edges. But I've been crying on and off all day. We love you Toby ! Go easy Brother....
Son is in active duty in our undeclared wars, Daddy fought as Airborne in Korea, Grandaddy fought in WWII in army and navy. Great great granddaddy fought in wwI and Spanish America war I think. Family serving continues into Revolution and Prussian Wars. My family serves.
Damn. Rest in peace Toby. I graduated cavalry training at Ft Knox to this song in 2005. This song always has a huge place in my heart. This is so sad to hear.
From a Veteran. Thank you for supporting The American Soldier. Hard not to have tears hearing this song, knowing you’re not with us anymore. Your music and legacy will live on. RIP GODSPEED.

This song, always brings me to tears every time. My best friend served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He was lucky enough to watch you perform during one of his tours. I will never forget him telling me how he bawled like a baby hearing this song live. It was one of the highlights of his career. He was injured overseas and developed an infection he spent a month in a hospital overseas recovering and he had only been home 2 nights and on the third day he passed away the infection had spread unknowingly to the pericardium, which is the sack around your heart. No doubt all of the American soldiers were awaiting your arrival at the pearly gates to give you a much deserved heroes welcome. I hope you knew what you meant to the armed forces serving overseas. Rest In Peace! 💐✝️🙏
😭 thank you for sharing that story. God bless you! I hope my son was there to give him a huge hug. He served in Iraq, did 2 tours. Died by his own hand Sept. 2019. 😭

80% disabled combat veteran. I cry every time I hear this song. God bless Toby Kieth. God bless America. FREEDOM ISNT FREE.
Just woke up to find out that Toby Keith from my home town passed last night. I can't contain my emotions. Mr. Keith was a larger than life figure and one of the most prominent persons from my home town. We truly have lost a pillar of our town and state of Oklahoma. Toby was a huge patriot and supporter of the 45th of Oklahoma. Toby Keith thank you for your support for us and being an Okla Homie . Rest now we have the watch. Sgt V. OKARNG
As a soldier, I just want to say, and I don’t speak for all, but to everyone commenting that thank us, we to thank you. Y’all are the reason we serve. Thank you for your support. It means more than you will ever know.
Yes Thank you sooo much for your service without your service we probably wouldn't be who we are now. With out you we wouldn't be free. Tell all the soldiers you can, "Thank you". You are amazing
I served 26 years, multiple deployments, currently 70% DAV, I know the sacrifices all too well! Thank you to all my brothers and sisters still serving as well as those past. I had a chance to meet Toby and you could just feel his passion for all military personnel just radiating off him. This song has always brought tears to my eyes. You will forever be missed Toby! I hope you realized what your music meant to so many of us! RIP Brother!! Now that I’m retired I realize I was somebody, and never felt more proud than when I was in that uniform!

I had planned to enlist out of high school but ended up having a child and couldn't push my self to leave him, at time I regret my decision, I've always felt it was my duty to serve but I couldn't leave. I'll forever thank those who have.
I am a 9th generation Marine, this song hits very deep for many of my family members. But every time they drive past them graves I feel the tears in my eyes fill. I left the Marines 21 years ago and still get chills remembering my first orders into a combat zone.
Thank you for everything you did and went through and the things that you are still going through. A lot of people forget the battle doesn’t end once you retire. Once again I appreciate you and everything you’ve done.
I'd play this song while I was deployed. God Bless you sir. I'm glad my wife and I got a chance to see you perform your last performance. RIP a true American legend 😢🙏🇺🇲
My pops. Served in Vietnam nam fighter pilot - biggest hero I know. So incredible my father - a dad a husband an grandpa an great grandpa. Currently, my mom has a little bit of dementia and my pops has been doing everything for her for several years. We didn’t know. He’s been this incredible man the patriarch. He never loved me. It really affected m6 life. I still love him him very much , but man I hurt a lot.
When we got married in the keys in 2007, My husband and I played this song prior to me Walking down the aisle because if it wasn't for the bravery of all the men and women, not to mention we had a lot of military friends at our wedding, we wouldn't have been free to do our birthday weekend in the keys. We truly truly Thank you ALL every day for all that You do!!!!
My father Army Sgt. Charles Fishback fought in the Veteran War. And my Grandfather Navy Cpt. Charles Fishback fought in WW2. Both put 20 plus yrs. in the military and I will never be able 2 thank them enough. GO NAVY AND ARMY STRONG. Thank u dad and grandpa, ur service will always be respected by me
l agree with you, indeed Toby Keith is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style,he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days!!
I'm a British Infantry Veteran that served alongside our American brethren overseas. I couldn't ever imagine the feeling of having the people of our home nation being proud of us. Don't ever stop supporting your Troops guys. It truly does go a long way.
As a Brit I wish we would treat the armed forces veterans with a hell of a lot more respect than we do. Show them the respect and honour they deserve. I couldn't join the forces due to the epilepsy but I hold endless admiration for those prepared to put their lives on the line to serve in the forces
I'm a vet, and if you really want to support the troop ask your politicians to stop sending men to war, to fight for corporations that want to steal some countries oil. The last time the U.K. or the U.S. fought a war to actually protect our countries, was in WWII.
My father was only 19 when he was sent to Luzon in the Philippines during WWII. He returned thin, worn and changed. Back then, you couldn't have PTSD, if you didn't just "suck it up and keep going" you were considered a coward, or worse, so you just carried on. Haunted by what he had done and seen, he turned to drink. When I was born, he was a full-fledged alcoholic, abuser and chronically unemployed. He died of liver failure at only 34 years of age. I still carry the broken bones and scars he gave me, as well as the mental and emotional scars of a child. Flash forward twenty years, Vietnam and then Desert Storm. Against my family's wishes, I joined the military and It was my turn to face the limits of my humanity and courage. I too killed and cried and lay awake at night staring into the darkness. I could have easily become him, but I managed to hold onto myself through the love of others and the faith and loyalty of my comrades. I was one of the lucky ones. In the end, I made the military my career, returned to college to earn my PhD and proudly wear my Vietman/Desert Storm had everywhere I go. Do I hate my father for what he became? No. Not anymore. Many in WWII were killed, and many others broken beyond repair. It took me facing the same horror and conflict that he experienced for me to understand. While I may never be able to love you Dad, at least now, I understand you. Rest in peace, your namesake (your Grandson), would have made you proud.
Thank you for your bravery in serving even after your father's sacrifice. I am truly sorry you had to bear his suffering. Times have changed and we have learned more. So many young men and women suffered from PTSD after WW2. It was misdiagnosed and not understood. I hope you can understand and forgive him for the damage he received in that horrible ordeal.
l agree with you, indeed Toby Keith is a great and talented artist who's songs never goes out of style,he's one of my favorites artist, he's songs still and always heals the Soul, I pray God gives you lot of beautiful days!!
Disabled combat veteran here, no matter how many times I hear this song I tear up. This song has such a deep meaning to it. I don’t think we will ever have another singer who supports the armed forces like Toby Keith did. Toby you will truly be missed may you rest in peace now sir, thank you for all that you did.
I feel the same way. I too am a disabled military veteran. My brother did 35 years, my father did 25. I did eight. Every time I hear the song I cry. Doesn't make a difference where or when I hear it. And then add the video into the mix and it's just wow. Thank you for your service.
As someone who served, I always go out of my way to thank the older guys who served in Vietnam or WW2. I had great conversation a year ago with a WW2 vet. Sad there's not many left.
Nate yeah, I was at a store the other day I saw this guy who had a retired army hat on, when I walked by him I said "Thank you for your service" and he just lit up. Had a huge smile and said thanks. I know it's small but it made my day
You do not need to be a soldier to be a patriot & support those of us who are & who will be taking this attack against America back to our domestic enemies
Somebody you will read or hear that Toby Keith is dead don't you believe a word of it he shall be more alive than he is now but he has gone into the presence of God.
My wife is a American soldier! I'm very proud of her. She's deployed right now out there protecting are son and me! And all of your freedom! She is a American soldier!! If wasn't for her I couldn't stay back here working on are farm building and making it better each day. If it wasn't for people like her we would have nothing. My wife is a American soldier!!!
Well tell my sister in arms ty for serving next to each and everyone one of us we will give her the strength to come home in one piece hooah from this army soldier and his military family god speed to all..
Yeah it not really easy to be a strong man or a woman but with love we can both be strong,How are you doing with your family over there and hope everyone is doing great??
I served 5 years as a combat engineer; this song still chokes me up every time I hear it. Thank you to everyone for your comments and support for all those who severed.
My husband is an Army Ranger. He spent several years in the 80's in Special Forces. Like his Dad, who landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day, serving the greatest country in the world was an Honor and a Privilege.
My dad was an army ranger and the '60s and early '70s he passed away in 2016 followed by my mother 2 months later so thank you for serving all you that have served in all of our military Afghanistan i and of course the 9/11 tribute goes to Bush sorry not to to the former president Obama it's really due to our soldiers in our Navy seals and all the people that were over there thank you so much God bless you all that survived and all the families God bless
To my brothers and those who have held strong on the homefront. Love and respect to ya ALL ❤️ Check out an older song By Craig Morgan called Paradise.. It is another great song with the unspoken insight into our world ❤️🇺🇲❤️
I've served 4 tours and lost my grandad in the ww2. I fight for my country everyday and night with my heart and soul, blood and sweat. I love u America. God bless🙏🏻
To my brother who I lost in Iraq. I know I never told you much but I Love you bud. I miss you more than you'll ever know. I look forward to the day I see you again.
SHOTGUN EM DOWN He will always be remembered, he’s with you and he’ll never leave you no matter how much want to leave him he’ll stay with you so will god and Jesus.

@Greg Jacques Lucifer's Jizz Gargler Anybody heard of "A time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace" "Of David. Blessed be the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle; he is my steadfast love and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield and he in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me" "Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends." No one? Wow. I guess they're going to Heaven.
Our flag does not fly because the wind moves it, it flies with the last breath of each soldier who died protecting it. I am proud to be in the USAF, Freedom is never free!🇺🇸 ❤
listening to this on 9-11, 2018, my father served for twenty years in the army, went to war because of 9-11, and I am so thankful for all that he did for our country
Hello Thanks for your comment and supports, your comments and constant support has brought me this far. Keep Supporting ❤️ Please send me a mail via tobykeith2443@gmail.com
Hooah, From the newest generation to the greatest generation we thank you for your courage and your sacrifice and thank you for defending this great nation from all of her enemies, HOOAH!!!
Andrew Smith my great grandfather was in the 82nd airborne during ww2 he was for North Africa sicially Italy then was called back for d day and then market garden and Belgium then Germany he was glider infantry
Its enough to make a grown man cry. Men in my family have served all the way from the revolutionary war, 1812, civil war, ww1 and two, vietnam, and all modern conflicts to some extent. From leading troops against the red coats, to fighting their way into iwo jima, and rendering aid to children hit by a suicide bomb in iraq to flying drones and etc... im proud to say my family has been there to see most if not all of it to some capacity
I don’t care where the fuck you come from, or where you are. You fight for your country no matter the cost of the fight. Anyone who serves/served, deserves the same amount of respect from the other side. You don’t fight because you hate what’s in front of you, you fight because you love what’s behind you. Those who don’t follow this rule are a disgrace. This does not apply to Nazi’s. Everyone hates the Nazi’s.
Love the US 🇺🇸 & UK 🇬🇧 so much from Indonesia 🇮🇩 Yall are so lucky live in the greatest country in the world. Thank you United States for your technology like Google, Microsoft, etc. Loved it 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍
To all those in the military reading this... thank you from the bottom of my heart for fighting so that I can be free in this beautiful country. The greatest sacrifice is leaving your families to fight for this country. I’m proud to live amongst brave men and women that I can call true heroes. 🇺🇸
My dad is a marine. He served in Vietnam. He is so proud of his work, he went and walked home from being released with his bag and he walked home in New Braunfels Texas cops at that time gave him a hard time he was Hispanic but he came back and fought for our freedom
Served for 13 years before being injured in Afghanistan. Desert Storm, Iraq, and Afghanistan. This song came out while I was in country. I will always be an American soldier!!!! God Bless America!!!!!
@zdruva Nosworthy let me ask you this. How many people died to give you the right to say that? How many still keep the wolves at bay while you sleep soundly? I'll tell you this I am one of them.
I am not an American, but served a lot with or next to US troops. Thank you mates!! Yes....freedom is not for free......lets honour our comrades who did not make it home.
Thank you my friend sorry it took me so long to get back to you go army rangers my dad was one and 65 to I think about 95 or I'm sorry 75 he was an army ranger he helped fight for our freedom as well
Dear Lisa...I hope your dad is ok?? My best regard to him. I am a German. Had lots of contacts with US soldiers in different countries, some of those countries not that nice. Always good experience with them. Professional. My grandfather was a US POW after WWII ..always mentioned how they treated him humanly after his surrender Still trying to teach people that we live free in Germany because US soldiers gave their lives. I will never forget. .
Toby Keith, an American Patriot. God Bless you!

Rest in peace, Toby! You are forever missed.
Thank u dad and grandpa, ur service will always be respected by me
It will be respected by all of us!

I'm a British Infantry Veteran that served alongside our American brethren overseas. I couldn't ever imagine the feeling of having the people of our home nation being proud of us. Don't ever stop supporting your Troops guys. It truly does go a long way.
Ditto dales comment, former UK RMC 40% disability from across the water .. just another No: 😐
As a Brit I wish we would treat the armed forces veterans with a hell of a lot more respect than we do. Show them the respect and honour they deserve. I couldn't join the forces due to the epilepsy but I hold endless admiration for those prepared to put their lives on the line to serve in the forces
Ox
Bet dan ammon 2acr vet.

I'm a vet, and if you really want to support the troop ask your politicians to stop sending men to war, to fight for corporations that want to steal some countries oil. The last time the U.K. or the U.S. fought a war to actually protect our countries, was in WWII.
RIP Toby. Thank you for coming over and giving us a little bit of home. Gods got one heck of a country singer now singing the gospel
Thanks for sharing your story 👍🏻 I am sorry for the pain you had to endure. Let’s just hope that there will never be a 3rd world war.
Thank You for your service.

God bless you, brother. Thank you for your service!
I feel the same way. I too am a disabled military veteran. My brother did 35 years, my father did 25. I did eight. Every time I hear the song I cry. Doesn't make a difference where or when I hear it. And then add the video into the mix and it's just wow. Thank you for your service.

Blessed be the Lord, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle; he is my steadfast love and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield and he in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me" "Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends." Respect for all folks who stand for their country’s call.
