My dad served in WWII and came home wounded from North Africa. He carried the shrapnel the rest of his life until he died in 1992 with cancer. He died a believer. I pray Toby Keith died a believer, a follower of Christ like my dad. if he did, he won the greatest battle!

I've been watching Toby's songs and his interviews all day. My youngest son told me of his passing when I got up. I served 6 years with my local Army National Guard Field Artillery Unit, 1982-88. A big part of my family and friends are veterans- from various times and various military branches. I've always loved Toby's songs. But this one and all his other patriotic songs really get me. I'm 60 now, big and tough and rough around the edges. But I've been crying on and off all day. We love you Toby ! Go easy Brother....

This song, always brings me to tears every time. My best friend served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He was lucky enough to watch you perform during one of his tours. I will never forget him telling me how he bawled like a baby hearing this song live. It was one of the highlights of his career. He was injured overseas and developed an infection he spent a month in a hospital overseas recovering and he had only been home 2 nights and on the third day he passed away the infection had spread unknowingly to the pericardium, which is the sack around your heart. No doubt all of the American soldiers were awaiting your arrival at the pearly gates to give you a much deserved heroes welcome. I hope you knew what you meant to the armed forces serving overseas. Rest In Peace! 💐✝️🙏

As someone who served, I always go out of my way to thank the older guys who served in Vietnam or WW2. I had great conversation a year ago with a WW2 vet. Sad there's not many left.
Nate yeah, I was at a store the other day I saw this guy who had a retired army hat on, when I walked by him I said "Thank you for your service" and he just lit up. Had a huge smile and said thanks. I know it's small but it made my day

Son is in active duty in our undeclared wars, Daddy fought as Airborne in Korea, Grandaddy fought in WWII in army and navy. Great great granddaddy fought in wwI and Spanish America war I think. Family serving continues into Revolution and Prussian Wars. My family serves.
My father was only 19 when he was sent to Luzon in the Philippines during WWII. He returned thin, worn and changed. Back then, you didn't have PTSD, you just sucked it up and kept going. Haunted by what he had done and seen, he turned to drink. When I was born, he was a full-fledged alcoholic, abuser and chronically unemployed. He died of liver failure at only 34 years of age. I still carry the broken bones and scars he gave me, as well as the mental and emotional scars. Flash forward twenty years, Vietnam and then Desert Storm. Against my family's wishes, I joined the military and It was my turn to face the limits of my humanity and courage. I too killed, and cried and lay awake at night staring into the darkness. I could have easily become him, but I managed to hold onto myself through the love of others and the faith and loyalty of my comrades. I was one of the lucky ones. Do I hate my father for what he became? No. Not anymore. Many in WWII were killed, and many others broken beyond repair. It took me facing the same horror and conflict that he experienced for me to understand. While I may never be able to love you Dad, at least now, I understand you. Rest in peace, your namesake (your Grandson), would have made you proud.
Thank you for your bravery in serving even after your father's sacrifice. I am truly sorry you had to bear his suffering. Times have changed and we have learned more. So many young men and women suffered from PTSD after WW2. It was misdiagnosed and not understood. I hope you can understand and forgive him for the damage he received in that horrible ordeal.
I’m not a veteran but I greatly appreciate the things this man has done for our troops. So many celebrities out there that act like they are such good people for virtue signaling but this man went out there and actually sang to our troops live, a true patriot that loved America and freedom. Mr. Keith was a larger than life figure and one of the most prominent persons from my home town. We truly have lost a pillar of our town and state of Oklahoma. My pops. Served in Vietnam nam fighter pilot - biggest hero I know. So incredible my father - a dad a husband an grandpa an great grandpa. Currently, my mom has a little bit of dementia and my pops has been doing everything for her for several years. We didn’t know. He’s been this incredible man the patriarch. He never loved me. It really affected m6 life. I still love him him very much , but man I hurt a lot.

I'm a British Infantry Veteran that served alongside our American brethren overseas. I couldn't ever imagine the feeling of having the people of our home nation being proud of us. Don't ever stop supporting your Troops guys. It truly does go a long way.
As a Brit I wish we would treat the armed forces veterans with a hell of a lot more respect than we do. Show them the respect and honour they deserve. I couldn't join the forces due to the epilepsy but I hold endless admiration for those prepared to put their lives on the line to serve in the forces
I'm a vet, and if you really want to support the troop ask your politicians to stop sending men to war, to fight for corporations that want to steal some countries oil. The last time the U.K. or the U.S. fought a war to actually protect our countries, was in WWII.

I feel the same way. I too am a disabled military veteran. My brother did 35 years, my father did 25. I did eight. Every time I hear the song I cry. Doesn't make a difference where or when I hear it. And then add the video into the mix and it's just wow. Thank you for your service.
When we got married in the keys in 2007, My husband and I played this song prior to me Walking down the aisle because if it wasn't for the bravery of all the men and women, not to mention we had a lot of military friends at our wedding, we wouldn't have been free to do our birthday weekend in the keys. I am a 9th generation Marine, this song hits very deep for many of my family members. But every time they drive past them graves I feel the tears in my eyes fill. I left the Marines 21 years ago and still get chills remembering my first orders into a combat zone.

My husband is an Army Ranger. He spent several years in the 80's in Special Forces. Like his Dad, who landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day, serving the greatest country in the world was an Honor and a Privilege.
My dad was an army ranger and the '60s and early '70s he passed away in 2016 followed by my mother 2 months later so thank you for serving all you that have served in all of our military Afghanistan i and of course the 9/11 tribute goes to Bush sorry not to to the former president Obama it's really due to our soldiers in our Navy seals and all the people that were over there thank you so much God bless you all that survived and all the families God bless

Thank you Toby for such a special video to remember our soldiers. Several members of my served, Army, Air Force and Navy and I am so proud of them. My brother was a Paratrooper in the Army and served in Vietnam and my brother-in- law served in the Air Force and also served in Vietnam. They were so proud to be an American solider. Being the mother of a Sailor, this definitely hits harder than I ever thought it would. Some emotions that I never knew existed. It might sound silly, but finding a lost sock behind the dryer can bring me to tears and cripple a mother in an instant. It's not just our loved ones serving-we're serving our own duty back here on the home front. And we wouldn't have it any other way. Thank you to the entire military family.

Always good experience with them. Professional. My grandfather was a US POW after WWII ..always mentioned how they treated him humanly after his surrender Still trying to teach people that we live free in Germany because US soldiers gave their lives. I just enlisted in the army and I am leaving for Fort Jackson in south Carolina in 3 weeks I got 14 weeks basic training and I sighed my contract for 8 years I'm glad I'm getting the opportunity to serve and protect my brothers sister mother's father's and friends God bless all of y'all God bless America

I was an Air Force wife for over 20 years and I watched my husband leave and drive down our driveway thousands of times. He served in the Air Force for almost 34 years and this song was always one that I kept close to me and our 2 small sons. I kept vigil at home and kept the home fires burning. I still would do it all over again. My husband is a hero. May God bless all our military and their families! ❤🇺🇸 I know the sacrifice they make is very great. Thank you, God, for our veterans, living,and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Everytime I see the Air Force jet flying in this video,the tears start to flow,and I just sob. It brings back so many memories of waiting for my airman to come home from an overseas mission. God bless our heros.

As an Englishman I want to thank every American Soldier who has ever sacrificed their life, the USA is literally the only reason we have democracy or free speech anywhere in the world at this point, thanks to their great sacrifices and those of any armed forces allied with the US they have preserved the way of life we hold dear.

I've been watching Toby's songs and his interviews all day. My youngest son told me of his passing when I got up. I served 6 years with my local Army National Guard Field Artillery Unit, 1982-88. A big part of my family and friends are veterans- from various times and various military branches. I've always loved Toby's songs. But this one and all his other patriotic songs really get me. I'm 60 now, big and tough and rough around the edges. But I've been crying on and off all day.

This song, always brings me to tears every time. My best friend served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. He was lucky enough to watch you perform during one of his tours. I will never forget him telling me how he bawled like a baby hearing this song live. It was one of the highlights of his career. He was injured overseas and developed an infection he spent a month in a hospital overseas recovering and he had only been home 2 nights and on the third day he passed away the infection had spread unknowingly to the pericardium, which is the sack around your heart. No doubt all of the American soldiers were awaiting your arrival at the pearly gates to give you a much deserved heroes welcome. I hope you knew what you meant to the armed forces serving overseas. Rest In Peace! 💐✝️🙏

Dad was at GoT on USS Tico, this one hurts.
Son is in active duty in our undeclared wars, Daddy fought as Airborne in Korea, Grandaddy fought in WWII in army and navy. Great great granddaddy fought in wwI and Spanish America war I think. Family serving continues into Revolution and Prussian Wars. My family serves.

Im sorry for your loss. I've been there... I will continue to serve for the honor of Soldiers like your father.
My father was only 19 when he was sent to Luzon in the Philippines during WWII. He returned thin, worn and changed. Back then, you didn't have PTSD, you just sucked it up and kept going. Haunted by what he had done and seen, he turned to drink. When I was born, he was a full-fledged alcoholic, abuser and chronically unemployed. He died of liver failure at only 34 years of age. I still carry the broken bones and scars he gave me, as well as the mental and emotional scars.
Flash forward twenty years, Vietnam and then Desert Storm. Against my family's wishes, I joined the military and It was my turn to face the limits of my humanity and courage. I too killed, and cried and lay awake at night staring into the darkness. I could have easily become him, but I managed to hold onto myself through the love of others and the faith and loyalty of my comrades. I was one of the lucky ones.
Do I hate my father for what he became? No. Not anymore. Many in WWII were killed, and many others broken beyond repair. It took me facing the same horror and conflict that he experienced for me to understand. While I may never be able to love you Dad, at least now, I understand you. Rest in peace, your namesake (your Grandson), would have made you proud.
Thanks for sharing your story 👍🏻 I am sorry for the pain you had to endure. Let’s just hope that there will never be a 3rd world war.

Thank you for your bravery in serving even after your father's sacrifice. I am truly sorry you had to bear his suffering. Times have changed and we have learned more. So many young men and women suffered from PTSD after WW2. It was misdiagnosed and not understood. I hope you can understand and forgive him for the damage he received in that horrible ordeal.

Just woke up to find out that Toby Keith from my home town passed last night. I can't contain my emotions. Mr. Keith was a larger than life figure and one of the most prominent persons from my home town. We truly have lost a pillar of our town and state of Oklahoma. Toby was a huge patriot and supporter of the 45th of Oklahoma.

My dad is a marine. He served in Vietnam. He is so proud of his work, he went and walked home from being released with his bag and he walked home in New Braunfels Texas cops at that time gave him a hard time he was Hispanic but he came back and fought for our freedom

And you put into perspective what my grandmother felt in WW2, when her husband died months before my mom was born. When you are a military family, you look for the smallest amount of hope. As a black American veteran this song still sends chills up my spine and gets me chocked up. Unless you are a veteran or the spouse of one, nobody understands the sacrifice you give to serve. Being the mother of a Sailor, this definitely hits harder than I ever thought it would. Some emotions that I never knew existed. It might sound silly, but finding a lost sock behind the dryer can bring me to tears and cripple a mother in an instant. It's not just our loved ones serving-we're serving our own duty back here on the home front. And we wouldn't have it any other way. Thank you to the entire military family.

My grandfather was a US POW after WWII ..always mentioned how they treated him humanly after his surrender

I just enlisted in the army and I am leaving for Fort Jackson in south Carolina in 3 weeks I got 14 weeks basic training and I sighed my contract for 8 years I'm glad I'm getting the opportunity to serve and protect my brothers sister mother's father's and friends God bless all of y'all God bless America

I was an Air Force wife for over 20 years and I watched my husband leave and drive down our driveway thousands of times. He served in the Air Force for almost 34 years and this song was always one that I kept close to me and our 2 small sons. I kept vigil at home and kept the home fires burning. I still would do it all over again. My husband is a hero. May God bless all our military and their families! ❤🇺🇸 I know the sacrifice they make is very great. Thank you, God, for our veterans, living,and those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Everytime I see the Air Force jet flying in this video,the tears start to flow,and I just sob. It brings back so many memories of waiting for my airman to come home from an overseas mission. God bless our heros.
