    To be more specific, it's not Kenyans per se that are great runners. It's specifically the Kalenjin people of Kenya. They often have last names that start with "Kip" eg. Kipsang, Kiprotich, Kipruno, etc. Next time you're watching some world class marathon, see how many of the runners have a last name that starts with "Kip".

    • @pretty_d00med
      @pretty_d00med 8 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      That's a really neat observation! My bf is from that specific tribe but his name doesnt have "kip" attached to it.

    • @NA-xg1ji
      @NA-xg1ji 8 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      Of course not every single person will have "Kip" in their name, but having 'Kip" in their last name is just very very common. The runner n this video has a middle name of "Kiprop"

    • @pretty_d00med
      @pretty_d00med 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Tsar Nicholas II how are their name formulated? my bf said that our daughters name would have a different last name in kenya

    • @NA-xg1ji
      @NA-xg1ji 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I really don't know. I just know that last names that begin with "Kip" typically are Kalenjin names, and it is people of the Kalenjin tribe that are typically the best runners. The Kenyan Olympic Marathon team this year consists of: Stanley Kipleting Biwott, Eluid Kipchoge, and Wesly Korir (whose father's name is Nehemiah Kip Korir).

      All of us kalenjins our middle names have kip while for the ladies its che ..until after we older we pick our dads middle name but this time we remove the kip suffix to be our surnames

    My boyfriend is Kenyan and is my college's best runner. They eat lots of carbs such as fruits, veggies, and starchy/floury foods. They like to drink mostly tea, water and juice. Rarely will they drink soda or eat milk, cheese, butter or anything overly fattening and the meats are either lean beef and chicken. They don't gain fat easily. Their limbs are very long and willowy. They run in all sorts of weather conditions hot or cold. They're very disciplined, optimistic, ambitious and tough minded people. All this combined with genetics and where they came from, is what makes them great runners.

      +SubversiveGalacticUnicorn AND we all remember that the East Germans were so good because of the "Identification of talent", "scientific testing" and "superior centralised system".
      Last week the Russian Head of the Anti Doping Agency admitted he had swapped urine samples to stop 15 Russian Winter Olympic medal winners from being disqualified.
      This week after retesting of samples from the Chinese Olympic Games 31 athletes will be disqualified from the Rio Olympic Games.
      Crime pays.

    For most of us in Kenya, running is the only path out of poverty and to a better life. Running is what we're good at so we run. Every single day I run and run.
    One day I'll have the good cars and houses.
    One day, maybe, I'll run for my country.
    But today I run to be the best in my training group.

They live for progress. you cant run a 7 minute mile cause you know nothing about pain and discomfort..yea maybe im speaking out of place..but MOST humans are born to run(besides genetic anomalies) if you cant run a 7 minute mile...you haven't done jack **** in regards to training.

    dudes, barefoot running actually works! I've been having shin splits for the past 2 years and even when I still had them, I ran barefoot and I felt no pain on my shins (only at the bottom of my feet lol) but they've been getting stronger like a callus all over the bottom of them. I used to have trouble running just 1.5 miles then I ran barefoot 3 miles withought getting tired. Only my calves were burning bu i got used to that.

    their ground is perfect for running short gras and soft clayish just perfect not to dusty and thery are litterally training on the best and softest ground resulting in and longest strides with less impact and longer traning sessions so they end up with better trained bodies and their envronment and climate and food probably help also. Try running one a dirt road after a a light rain its just perfect but if its to dry then its miserable but if its to wet its also miserable but if its like you see in kenya clayish which doesnt kick up dust and dirt in your breathing and good shock absorption then its perfect. Any real runner can know this after running all day on cement you get shin splints and it hurts but if you run on track or short grass or something softer its much more enjoyable. A dirt road in the woods in a sunny area after a light rain is the best. have a good run.

      They win because of state sponsored doping. It's not some magical reason... Don't believe the hype. The Kenyan team almost wasn't allowed to compete in Rio because over 40 athletes have failed drug tests since 2012. And in Rio 2 coaches have been sent home. One for trying to bribe the officials to tell him when the random drug tests would happen. The other for posing as an athlete and taking piss tests and forging documents. It's insane that they are actually allowed to compete.

    the answer is evolution. People had to hunt animals for food by running them down, they probably couldn't beat an animal's speed but they can outlast their endurance. Humans are great at going for long distances. Some African tribes were the best at this, I'm guessing it's the descendants of them who are the ones winning marathons in this age

    As an African that grew up in such kind of setup, let me tell you why these guys are so good.
    1. Urbanization - Infrastructural advantages (cinemas, etc) + technology is far out of reach in their lives. Most can't afford such.
    2. The country is not as developed.
    3. Running doesn't need special diets, we Africans know that starch and water, our normal diet does the job.
    4. We run and play far from home, not to mention the distance to walk to school.
    5. Genetics? Yes, that too. In our cultures, a man has to prove he's strong and thus can protect a lady before he marries her. Competition is built-in to our innerselves by our traditions.
    6... Running helps make income, and since we don't have a lot of opportunities out here, we capitalize on it.
    I live in South Africa, we have a few greats here, but not as much as other Southern African countries such as Kenya, Ethopia and Uganda, and that's because we have world class cities and have access to a lot of technology, which takes much of our time.
    IN SHORT, CONFLICT OF INTERESTS.
    STOP SAYING "THEY RUN WELL COZ OF TECHNIQUE", That is such stupid. These guys run well coz their lives and that of those they love count on it. Note that well.
    SAME AS AFRICAN AMERICANS, THEY RUN WELL BECAUSE OF THE SAME REASON.

    I hate how scientists and athletics enthusiasts come up with preposterous speculations like how only Kenyans are good at distance running and how only West Africans ( and those with West African descendants) are good sprinters. I think it's complete and utter b.s. The long distance world champion is Mo Farah, a man born in a country impoverished by civil war, famine and piracy. Long live Somalia!

  • @DMGC529
    @DMGC529 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    they are made for it, they are genetically gifted ( small, light, long legs, small torso, good elasticity on top of endurance) and suited to this type of running, they grow up in the right physical environment and they are tough, they dont give a f^^^ about pain. They are desperate. All of the above. Basically, one white guy in 1 million might come along with the right build and genetics and and have the heart and discipline to get close, but there aren't enough of them to ever match them.
