I'd LOVE romanceable NPCs in this game, But I think its actually the metamorphoses of Stella/Caelus as a stellaron into a Butterfly from their larval stage. Regardless, super interesting dialogue :3 (DEAR HOYO.... LET US ROMANCE THE NPCS!)
romancing npcs/party members is pretty timeless in rpgs at this point, in turn based ones especially. The Persona series comes to mind just off the top of my head. Hoyo could use a romance mechanic to encourage users to pull as well. Imagine a player starts playing HSR at a point in time when this theoretical romance system is in place, right? they get to jarilo and think Seele is awesome and mega-waifu material or they see Gepard and go omg husbando spotted so s/he starts grinding up that heart meter or whatever. two days later its announced that Seele will be getting a rerun or that Gepard will be getting his own banner. How likely do you think it is that this player will whip out his/her credit card to get the npc s/he's been grinding affection points for onto his/her team? I'd say pretty likely, especially in China where spending money on phone games doesn't carry the same stigma it does here in the west. Its a win/win, corporate Hoyo gets another system to incentivize (or manipulate if you prefer to be uncharitable) players into opening their wallets and players get to romance the characters. Other than labor costs (which you could argue would get more than offset by the profits the system would help generate) I don't see how Hoyo could lose by introducing a romance system. US twitter would probably explode I guess, a lot of the characters are supposed to be older teenagers between the ages of 15-18. But how much does China actually care about American Twitter?
@@jasoncarnelian3325 china alone no, but hoyo def cares (to some extent..when its .. beneficial to them) anywho, romance is unlikely considering the extra effort they have to put into each of the supposed romancable companion, i think the flirty lines are the furthest we can get
