    its so incredibly frustrating how people treat animated movies like nothing more than a story board for live-action remakes. It completely undermines the artistry and beauty that goes into animation as a medium.

      i was recently thinking about how cool it would be if high fantasy books were animated in like a god of war style instead of live actions when they turn them into tv or movies. i think it would give a lot more room to make the world look true to the books

      this is literally my favourite comment on why the medium of animation is constantly battling with these soulless remakes. I wish animation was more appreciated because the storytelling and art that goes into it is so incredible, yet so undervalued in the film industry. Animation is a medium that offers so much, it shouldn’t be treated as lesser in comparison to live-action remakes.

      That might actually be the only thing that puts to bed the live-action remakes. Disney would then see that the 'live-action' movie made half what the animated counterpart did and stop. Can I also take the chance to complain about 'live-action' as a term... Another thing that needs to be addressed is the way using celebrities to voice characters damages the field for professional voice actors by reducing the available roles and creating an artificial wage gap, among other things. The public ends up losing out as well by being provided with lower quality performances just so studios can ride on the use of a big name.

    • @KingOfGaymes

      I love voice actors more than normal actors, they can do so much with just their voice and it’s incredible how many of them can completely change how they sound. I HATE when an animated movie’s cast is just a ton of celebrities.. There are so many AMAZING voice actors that could be so good in these big animated movies.. But no it’s big name Hollywood celebrities.. Like I get one or two to promote the movie but nowadays it seems to be only celebs..
      Like for example the Mario movie with Crisp Rat (who seems to be voicing everything now and hate it) he didn’t fit the role at all.

    As much as I love Moana, because as an Islander it’s a character I’ve related too because of its dive into how the islands moved etc, I feel like the one movie in itself was not enough to get aspects from all islands. I feel like instead of a live action they could make a sequel where she visits different islands to trade resources, like they did back then, and meet new countries as well as famous myths and legends each island has, like Te Fiti who is based on (or speculated to be) Pele the goddess of fire, wind, lighting and volcanoes. Instead, making a live action actually may take away the films entire values of each island they tried to shove into one movie and base it on Dwayne’s cultural heritage, being Samoan, as well as Auli’i’s cultural heritage, being Hawaiian, which will probably, and most likely, be the only two cultures focused within the actual movie, which as someone who has looked to this movie as comfort and very much related to it, it’s kind of insulting.

    Hot take: the rock shouldn't play Maui in a live action. As a Polynesian, Maui is such a significant figure across our differenr cultures, and the rock doesn't feel like he's doing justice to the legends of Maui. He just feels too goofy and whitewashed to fit the role. Also whenever there's a Polynesian role in any Hollywood movie, the rock is always the default actor to fill that space. Like where's the diversity??? I know he's not the only talented Polynesian actor in the world. It just feels like Hollywood went with the most basic option. At this point I can't take him seriously when he gives his whole "representing the culture " speel. It doesn't feel authentic. More like a way to maintain popularity amongst the poly audience. Polynesian does not always have to equal the rock. Anyways, kiko pau.

    When i first saw the live action little mermaid trailer, i was surprised that they decided to just turn off the lights and film. Every. Single. Thing. Was so freaking dark. Sure, the original little mermaid had a lot of blue tones to things, but they were lighter blues in most cases. You could see the characters and they stood out against the background and there was a lot of vibrant color. Just have the ocean as colorful and bright as in finding nemo and i'd be all for it.
    As it is, if you don't watch the movie in pitch blackness, you're not going to get to see anything. And that makes for an awful movie experience. I can only hope that they actually light the actress in a way that doesn't make her invisible against the dark background.
    It's like dressing someone in sand colors and filming them from a huge distance in the desert. It's just bad movie making if you intend for anything to be seen

    • @mcclancait
      @mcclancait ปีที่แล้ว

      You should check out the featurette and other teasers they’ve posted on TH-cam! They feature a lot more scenes with a lot more vibrant colors. Let’s not judge a film based on just a few clips of a trailer…let’s analyze it in whole.
      However, I see where you’re coming from. In post production, natural lighting in film will have a gray tone, as that’s how we see it in real life. Because this is a live action movie, the programs they’re using emulate natural lighting above and below water. Unfortunately, these mediums (air and water) will cast gray tones on the world around them. You can observe this with ALL live actions Disney has done, and the little mermaid is not exempt from that. Realistic lighting programs are not going to be the same as flat animated colors, and maybe that’s the issue at hand.

      I think that is to resemble a painting,if you see the poster,you will understand,this is underwater,some places underwater,would not have many light.
      The movie looks more realistic.
      Tere is scene where things are colorful.

    • @catelynh1020
      @catelynh1020 ปีที่แล้ว

      While i agree with you guys that the intent was for realism, people don't like realistic movies.
      For example, if you were to punch someone, it wouldn't sound the same as in a movie. Yt has a number of videos on foley artists and what they use instead of the real sound. Movies that use actual punching sounds feel weird because of this.
      Movies used to film in daylight then color it blue to signify night while still letting you see the movie. Theater does this, too.
      Good filmmakers add extra light to actors so their face is lit more evenly (i think they're called softlights and bouncelights) to prevent things like harsh shadows and bags around the eyes.
      It used to be in movies that actors had to project to be picked up by mics, but nowadays many actors are mic'd so well they basically just whisper on set. Talking very low or whispering comes across really differently tonally than speaking at a normal volume, but movie goers don't seem to want to listen to that.
      In the kiss the girl scene, ariel is very difficult to see against the background. It's just very dark in general. It's realistic that you can't see well in the dead of night, but that doesn't make for a good movie, just saying. Her hair is also much more brown than stark red, which i saw in the teaser and assumed meant they were dulling colors underwater since certain wavelengths can't be seen. So if we're a number of meters below the water (ie at the bottom of the ocean) since red the color is lost by 5 meters. So the blue scaling of the underwater scenes in the teaser make less sense when the official trailer (which i just glanced at) has the under the sea song very vibrant and colorful at the same depth as everything just being blue and dull.

    • @mcclancait
      @mcclancait ปีที่แล้ว

      @@catelynh1020 You should do further research on these scenes. Please watch the one minute featurette Disney put out on TH-cam, and you will see your points are contradictory. For example, the Kiss the Girl scene has bioluminescent ocean. Also, the Ursula’s grotto scenes make use of great red-blue color contrast. There’s a jellyfish scene with glowing jellyfish. There’s multiple clips of her swimming through a vibrant sea.
      We can’t assume everything just on a few clips. If you don’t want to watch the movie, great, but don’t flat out exaggerate. It’s not in good faith.

    • @catelynh1020
      @catelynh1020 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mcclancait
      You are correct that i had yet to see the ursula reveal cuz, ya know, i don't get ads since i want to have downloaded videos for the road. I also have no idea when featurettes became a thing, but i could only find one and it did not include bioluminescence in the water for the kiss the girl frames so maybe there's another one that i missed. There was some light in the trees but it was minimal and eric/k's face was a lot more lit than hers. In order to see her face more clearly i had to turn off my overhead lights and turn up my phone brightness.
      You also have to admit that half a year can have great changes done to cgi in a film. Just look back at what sonic used to look like before they changed his design for the movie. Just thinking of his old face still unnerves me.
      Disney saying "we're doing this for realism" then doing nothing realistic is about par for the course. The teaser trailer i saw half a year ago had mostly muted colors for "realism" but the month old official trailer really said "of course you can see the full color spectrum at the bottom of the ocean". This is the same thing they did for mulan. They took out the most realistic thing of people singing/chanting in the army and replaced it with straight up magic.
      If i can find it, there's a good video about cinematography and how movies keep getting darker and darker because they're made to be seen in a dark environment of a movie theater. And because dark and gritty is in.
      You can experience a bit of how it's meant to be by watching the trailer on a large tv hours after sunset with the lights all off in your house so the only light is coming from the tv and maybe your phone in your hand. But i still think it's too dark.
      As a good reference point, watch the trailers for the harry potter movies. As they got more gritty towards the end, they got darker in their lighting. Whichever one i just brought up to look at, shots of voldie's army were very much on the dark side, but even at night time there was plenty of light on the characters (probably a magic light source they were all looking up at, i dunno, i never finished watching the series).
      If you look at the trailer for greatest showman, the dance on the rooftop at night is fully lit and visible. _That_ is what is missing in these disney remakes; they got rid of the light and color. And lost the plot, but that's a whole other argument. I'm still shocked at what they did to Pinocchio.

    I once saw a commenter say that they wished Coraline was made into a live-action, other live action request never really struck a nerve since I couldn't care less about them, I just don't watch them, but that one really infuriated me. Coraline being a stop-motion is mostly the reason why it's so amazing, there is literally nothing a live-action could bring to the movie that would make it worth watching.
    To bring in such a magic revolving movie and try to recreate it in "reality standards" to me is an insult to the original creators of the movie. If you tell me the movie or series you liked was lacking in plot or something, and you want to see those plot holes be filled I'd get it, idk why that would be necessary through a live-action but I'd understand the reasoning, but to take a perfectly fine masterpiece and want to see real humans be in it just for giggles makes me so unnaturally infuriated. It's so sad that still today animation is seen as a silly childish genre instead of simply a different, more magical outside the box method of bringing something to life.

If I’m going to be called racist for think black characters deserve their own stories told and not hand me down from safe, bankable European tales, so be it. Our people have their own great stories, not just from Africa but myths and legends born right here in America. But they will never get told because Hollywood reincforces the idea that audiences only want proven “white” stories.
