exactly. Seems like the reason it failed on both releases since nobody knows it. People wanted to play on this release it just had a terrible launch and never fixed issues
I’d also go far as to say that the developers didn’t want it to be a live service. In 2016, when Overwatch was released, live services weren’t even a thing; in 2017, when Fortnite was released, it became the standard. Live service games are just draining to play nowadays due to FOMO. While it is sad to see a great game with a unique art style come back and die a second time, I think it’s good that it didn’t become another Hamster Wheel live-service game like everything else. I miss just simple box title releases, and it’s a significant reason why I only play one live service game and stick to single-player story games nowadays(Indie and AAA). FOMO will probably kill the industry because at a certain point, even the average consumer will get drained of playing constantly and they will pivot to other hobbies.
@@CyberLou it's both I heard about the game wanted to try it but saw the 20$ price tag and thought it wasn't worth it especially when it has paid cosmetics
There were also a lot of connectivity issues and I think that's resolved by now but when I tried to get back again I just run into stacks while I'm solo because the player base is so small and just get rolled, shame, loved the game
For me the turn off was the price. Nowadays I buy games around just $5 and I only enjoyed the game a little bit during Open Beta. Heck, they could have just made a f2p version and the P2P version comes with a bunch of cosmetics.
I loved gigantic on the original release but I haven't even touched the relaunch I originally played with a group of friends but I don't hear anyone talking about it and with so many games taking my time I just don't feel attached to it.
I haven’t heard or seen anything about deadlock since ppl hyped it a month or 2 ago. Another side to all this is the internet side and how discourse affects ppl’s willingness to to try new things. Most the time these days ppl need their favorite pre approved channels to give them the “ok” before they find anything interesting enough to check out . For example I have a friend who swears he loves fighting games and old school beat em ups…. So you would think getting this guy into devil may cry would be easy enough…. Nope lol because he doesnt have nostalgia for it, because certain ppl didnt give him the green light regarding this series and it being one he is aware of on a super surface level… even when he plays dmc5 and loves the combat and everything…. He will still slink back to comfort good gaming and does the same thing with tv. Loves chucky so much he watched the shitty chucky tv show about the gay highschool kid … even tho it sucked lmao. And he admitted he didn’t like it but kept watching Simply due to nostalgia lol so he coulda watched anything for example he watched invincible episode 1 (I had to pull teeth to make it happen) he was mind blown by what Omni man did to the justice league characters and still never returned to watch it but if invincible shows up as a guest or crossover he acts like a hype fan lmao . I think the gamers of today are just so finicky and choosey and a lot of the times are just extremely hardcore casuals. Like they love what they love but rarely go out their bubble even if they take a liking to things outside of it because it’s so much easier to just go to comfort foods . Me as a gamer. And someone who genuinely loves gaming I don’t do that. I enjoy the things of yesterday but also see why new things have potential as well. Sure somethings are obviously coded with certain themes or ideals that may turn me off but even then I can remove that aspect and break down if a game deserves support or a fanbase. And gigantic does deserve that. The his was super mishandled imo and shouldn’t have been brought back by a team who didn’t want to go all out with this comeback. If instead they wanted to piggyback off the fandom to launch something else then that’s even more disgusting but shouldn’t have given this to a team That doesn’t have a vision or a proper director to lead them to success . Just feels like the game came back to take our money and after that it was aimless.
The lack of advertising didnt help. So many games were coming out or being announced which also affected the audience it reached. Even playing the game i feel the grind was too tedious, even if it is all earnable ingame the challenges and post game rewards took too long to get

Once again this game received essentially no promotion . Of course it was gonna fail. It would do better if it was properly promoted and updated consistently
Biggest fail on their part was simply announcing it too soon and doing the rerelease way too early and filled with bugs, when it released it actually had like 5-6k players on launch which was great all thing considered, but it died out really fast when people couldn't even enter a game (the matchmaking was so ass you could spend like half an hour trying to find matches, often having to relaunch). I believe there was like ONE CLOSED playtest before it launched. Personally I'm conflicted with the whole f2p live service thing, its definitely hard to sell a shooter without it being free to play nowadays, but I don't think a live service would've worked either, the skins in the game just aren't that impressive compared to something like overwatch, that you'd want to spend money on it (this is mainly due to the artstyle). That being said, the game sold for like 20 bucks which was probably way too much for a rezzed game It's a lot of the same issues the original launch had, really sad bc I love this game to death :(
Game looks fun, wish it ran on my laptop. idk anything about pc specs, but my laptop's been able to run games like helldivers 2 with no problems, yet gigantic only ran well for 1 minute before becoming a slide presentation. had it refunded, and now I feel taunted whenever I see it on sale because I know repurchasing it wont change how it runs for me.
After playing rivals, this is so so similar, obviously it came first but I don’t get why it failed. I tried to play a day or so ago and it felt like a game from 2012. You know when you go back to dead severs for a nostalgia stroll…except it was live and not nostalgic. But still a good game. Shame really
F2P game re-released as a $20 "remake," when they didn't change engines (or anything), finished up whatever characters were WIP, and then publicly stated "we're selling this to you, and not updating it anymore. hope you all like it!" what a joke.
I bought the relaunch on release and tried so hard to get into it but just couldn't keep playing it at some point. I wouldn't say the game itself isn't fun. I actually did enjoy a handful of characters and plenty of matches. I think ultimately what killed it for me was the state of how unpolished it was. It was just so unfortunate because I really do enjoy playing the game but the devs just can't support it. I think if it was fully polished, had actual content released on a consistent basis, then maybe it would've had a better chance. (Also maybe some ACTUAL marketing would've helped).
I honestly don't think the $20 price tag was that bad. The game still got almost 10,000 players on Steam alone (Concord had an all time peak of 660😐), thats not too bad for a game that has been dead for years and did not get a lot of marketing for the re-release.
i heard from it when it was released again and it was cool. so many vterans praised it and said it will be something big. its really cool game really but i rather play ow or paladins cause i dont wanna wait for long on specific days :c
Your also missing 1 HUGE thing with the original launch. Yes 2016 was the year of Hero Shooters Overwatch, battleborn, and paladins but Spring 2017 saw the release of PUBG and the birth of the battleroyal craze. As soon as PUBG launched EVERYONE wanted to be the next battleroyal, including a game that released 1 day after Gigantic, a game that went on to be one of the biggest franchises ever launched Fortnite BattleRoyal. After that no one wanted hero shooters any more. Even the few who did just played Overwatch. It was less complicated and more polished plus it had the blizzard name and advertising behind it. As for the return, it was just plagued by too many bugs. Perfect Worlds definitely did not budget enough time or money to develop the rerelease properly. Your taking about a very very small team of devs working on an outdated engine, with code they didn't write, and what seems to be very tight deadlines. While being expected to add emotes, a new game mode, ranked mode, private games, 2 more characters, 2 more maps, a whole new PlayStation port, a new progression system, new UI, new tutorials, and cross play between all these version. So it was pushed out in a broken mess. A broken mess that wasn't budgeted to have any post game support. What little we did get probably only happened because the game was forced out the door without ranked so they had time to do a few patches while finishing that / their contract. Sadly they probably would've had more luck just putting out the last Motiga version with maybe the new characters and map. That version had far fewer bugs and they probably could've maintained a small but loyal playerbase. Hell even if they patched RE to fix its issues, I think it would have a small dedicated playerbase. If this was a "cash grab" someone at Perfect Worlds needs fired. Gigantic was extremely niche to start with so relaunching it was never going to be easy. A dead game comes with a lot of stigma you have to overcome and while dozens have tried only a small handful have ever successfully returned from the dead. It's all a shame because Gigantic deserved better.
I bought the game and now I can't play it anymore because they released an update with eac and now the game doesn't run on Linux anymore. It doesn't matter the consumer country, it is treated like trash all over the world.
I just downloaded the game after I bought game pass. Couldn't find a match so I searched what was going on. I think the game was pretty fun and wanted to get into it. Sad to see its already dead 😂
I loved Gigantic before but playing it now... needs polished, menu revamp, why does everyone constantly disconnect from the match before it even starts I've literally had to press 'Quickplay' three times in a row to get into a match where the match was canceled because someone disconnected while choosing a character. Movement could be polished and while I hope the best for the game I've also seen more bots than people in all of my matches.
Make a free game paid, keep it multiplayer only, re-release years after the genre crazy have died, make servers bad and basically unplayable at launch.
Unoptimized visuals, the combat is somewhat clunky and the grind is way too hard to open up the characters that might interest someone. It's got unique colors, characters, etc. but it's not a top tier game. The servers when I played multiplayer vs other people were usually laggy also.
@@banishedepsilon1802 I played about 2.5 hours solid with the required tutorial and only had enough special credits for 2 extra characters when there are like 30, numerous that are locked behind playtime/credits, some behind a paywall. Are you a dev or connected to the game devs/marketing somehow?
@@HermannTheGreat I like the game but I don't work for Abstraction or Arc Games. Did you only main one character or play a variety with no main (This is what I did). If I recall, you earn hero vouchers by leveling up your characters, and you can get them quicker if you play multiple characters since the XP requirement to level up increases every level.
@@banishedepsilon1802 I played 2 characters. Imani and Uncle Sven, they were fun, but the servers lagged, the gameplay was chaotic with what felt like janky un-optimized combat with very low HP on characters, and I couldn't play more than a few characters even after 3 hours. I performed fairly well with a strong background in FPS games, but the maps sometimes felt too large also, and again the servers lagged even with having a cable connection.
Every hero shooter it pretty much called a Overwatch rip off. It's kind of sad since this game plays nothing like overwatch and it's nice to have variety in the genre
The Rerelease time frame of it was a blessing for me and my 6 years of Overwatch. Overwatch became complete utter shit with all its mtx and dogshit format change. So I thought getting Gigantic for 20bucks and not having any shit mtx in it was a blast. Until I saw the "cosmetics", looked bad, took forever to grind. This relaunch was probably just to get some few extra bucks from the hardcore fans. I liked the gameplay for the few rounds I was able to play after 10 min q and server crashes all the time. And I like it a shit ton more than Deadlock. But the bugs and all are just pathetic. At this point it is theft. They have Gearbox behind their backs, why dont they just add some pve horde modes, like Risk of Rain. I'd slap that
They dont actually have Gearbox behind their backs, its a fact he gets wrong in the video but its a simple mistake. Perfect Worlds owns the Gigantic IP, Embracer bought Perfect Worlds and Gearbox, then renamed Perfect Worlds to Gearbox San fran. It was a move to capitalize on the Gearbox brand, but the studios are not really linked in anyway. Its why when Embracer sold Gearbox to 2k this spring they had to change the name back to Perfect Worlds.
I mean, yeah, it was absolutely destined to fail. I love Gigantic, but the fact that when the launched they said theu had no plans for long term support, the fact it was almost 30$CND, the only balance update happened like 3 month after launch, the servers/ui was a complete mess (like unplayable mess) and a few other issues... yeah... the writing was pn the wall from day one... And it sucks so much as a fan when companies mismanage a game you want to see succeed.😢
I got it for free and still wanted my money back. A lot of people were praising it to high heavens, but the moment to moment gameplay was tragically boring
Imagine bringing your game back from the dead, only for it to fail a second time. That's just sad
They actually didn't bring it back. The original creators of the game let it die and this other studio tried resurrecting it.

I think if it was fully polished, had actual content released on a consistent basis, then maybe it would've had a better chance. (Also maybe some ACTUAL marketing would've helped).
making it pay to play was such a terrible move
It's all a shame because Gigantic deserved better.
we got the game to come back thanks to game pass, hopefully it keeps it afloat
I bought the game and now I can't play it anymore because they released an update with eac and now the game doesn't run on Linux anymore. It doesn't matter the consumer country, it is treated like trash all over the world.
New office!!!!!! Ye
I just downloaded the game after I bought game pass. Couldn't find a match so I searched what was going on. I think the game was pretty fun and wanted to get into it. Sad to see its already dead 😂
Unfortunate. Was happy to see it return until I saw the price. Not gonna risk buying a once dead game
Back to overwatch2. I love this game. Its a shame this isnt on gamepass!
from f2p>b2p>nxt will be gigantic nft crypto lmao
I loved Gigantic before but playing it now... needs polished, menu revamp, why does everyone constantly disconnect from the match before it even starts I've literally had to press 'Quickplay' three times in a row to get into a match where the match was canceled because someone disconnected while choosing a character. Movement could be polished and while I hope the best for the game I've also seen more bots than people in all of my matches.
this game was fun, but it had so many problems and not enough retention that im just sad it died so quickly
They should've filled online player slots with ai. At least ppl could progress and play matches regardless of the player count
It failed day 1 when it was pay to play online only unpopular game
So they haven't done a single thing no new content or anything 💀
Make a free game paid, keep it multiplayer only, re-release years after the genre crazy have died, make servers bad and basically unplayable at launch.
currently zeo players are on sadly such a shame it has died twice
Unoptimized visuals, the combat is somewhat clunky and the grind is way too hard to open up the characters that might interest someone. It's got unique colors, characters, etc. but it's not a top tier game. The servers when I played multiplayer vs other people were usually laggy also.
@@HermannTheGreat it’s outdated for this time
Grind too hard for characters? I found it really quick to unlock them all
@@banishedepsilon1802 I played about 2.5 hours solid with the required tutorial and only had enough special credits for 2 extra characters when there are like 30, numerous that are locked behind playtime/credits, some behind a paywall.
I remember this game was called Overwatch ripoff in 2016 💀💀💀💀💀💀
Every hero shooter it pretty much called a Overwatch rip off.
Should’ve been f2p
I felt robed buying this thing, is the first game that I regret buting tbh
Bruh this video should of been made months ago lol
I hope marvels rivals steals the modes. I'm mad this is gone make it free and put it on gamepass
Took too long to queue into a match.
it might have a good start if it was f2p

Spellbreak wasn't bad...
Did anyone here say it was?
Literally, no one is playing this game anymore 😭
hero shooter moba??? Deadlock????? oh...
The morbius of third person mobas. Just play deadlock
Isnt this the moba with those darn furries? Nah, that's a skip for me.
I got it for free and still wanted my money back. A lot of people were praising it to high heavens, but the moment to moment gameplay was tragically boring
