So many people who DON’T live in the tropics are fascinated by growing tropical plants.

I’ve kept all of these outside for years in the Philly area and they do well. Very tough tropical plants and worth a try for anyone considering pushing the plant zone limits 🌴 🍌

How well do Sabal Minor do in windy spots? Are they wind tolerant!? Do the palm fans get damaged easily or not grow well in wind? Thanks.

I have grown hundreds of the hardiest Ecotype of Sabal minor from seed collected in Warren County Arkansas and McCurtain Oklahoma. They are very tough little palms

Would these hardy plants grow well in Baltimore?

The needle palm for sure. Over 20 years ago I gave my sister who lives in Chestertown, MD. (just east of Baltimore) a small Windmill palm. For the first few winters I had her wrap the trunk with an electric heat tape, only because it was young. It is magnificent, growing close to her house as added protection. Her neighbors are amazed that it has survived all these years.

@@KevinSmith-ne9fy Two of my windmill palms are still green. My needle palm is still green and my two other washingtonias. And my majesty palms are still slightly green but with some protection. I am testing the Pygmy palm and it is still green with some brown.

Dude is totally wrong and misleading. Keeping the roots alive are the key to a living palm/tropical plant. All 7 of mine are in there 5th year, it was -27 last year here in NW Indiana.

Thanks for the tip! He did mention there were several options to protect the palms from winter weather. Thanks for watching!
